Did he ever think about what could actually go wrong? Or did he just not care?

With her mind muddled by the drugs, Evelyn couldn't keep her thoughts to herself anymore. Her voice cracked with emotion as she confronted Charles, "All because I didn't do as you wanted and went on that blind date, you stood by and let him drug me? Why'd you let him take advantage of me? Is this how you teach me a lesson for not following your orders?"

Charles didn't say a word. His silence was as good as an admission.

A chill ran through Evelyn, and with all the strength she had left, she shoved Charles away and leaned against the wall for support.

Just as Charles was about to pull her back into his arms, the elevator doors slid open again.

In walked Brooks, tall and commanding. He quickly reached Evelyn. "Ms. Evelyn, are you okay?"

Since their last meeting at the hospital, Evelyn hadn't seen Brooks. They were from different worlds, so bumping into each other was rare.

Evelyn looked at Brooks now and couldn't muster the energy to wonder why he was there. Sensing her bewilderment, Brooks spoke gently, "Rosa set me up as your blind date. Sorry, I didn't make it on time."

Brooks was actually the man Rosa chosen for her. Evelyn grabbed his arm. Her gaze was unfocused, but she clung on desperately. "Get me out of here."

Without a second thought, Brooks lifted Evelyn into his arms. As he moved to leave, Charles stepped in front of him.

"Mr. Brooks, where are you taking my woman?" Charles put a heavy emphasis on "my woman."

His eyes were like daggers aimed at Brooks' hands around Evelyn.

Brooks glanced at Charles. Unlike the last time at the restaurant, he didn't back down. He looked at Evelyn and was ready to respect her decision. "Ms. Evelyn, who do you want to go with?"

He was supposed to be her date today. If Rosa was setting Evelyn up, her thing with Charles was over.

"You! Take me away..." Evelyn didn't hesitate, not bothering to look at Charles.

Her words enveloped Charles in a

"Charles, I'm feeling dizzy."

As he was about to follow them, Dahlia stumbled out of a room, grabbed his arm, and swayed as if she might faint.

Evelyn was in Brooks' arms as they entered the elevator, but she noticed this.

No wonder Charles was on this floor. He'd been with Dahlia.

The elevator doors closed in front of Charles, taking them down.

"If you're not well, go rest in your room." Charles didn't even look at Dahlia and just pulled away from her grip.
