The Blacklisted Rogue -
Chapter 39
Alex POV
"SOMEBODY HELP!"
I heard George's voice calling out.
When I turned around I saw George carrying a lifeless Elijah.
Immediately I turned into emergency mode and found a gurney. George placed Elijah down and I started working on him, barking out orders to the two nurses closest to me.
One of them hooked him up to a monitor.
"Blood pressure dropping, pulse spiking." He said.
I immediately located the gunshot wound in his head.
"Bring him to surgery, right now!" I ordered.
We rushed him down the corridor to an operating room and started to prepare for emergency surgery.
I frowned when I looked at the wound.
"Why isn't he healing anything on his own?" I mumbled.
As a human doctor in a werewolf hospital, I had received some extra training to know that even when badly injured, the wound would start to close up in the edges as a first sign of a werewolf's rapid healing. Elijah didn't have those.
"Run his blood and check for wolfsbane."
A nurse drew some blood and ran off with the sample.
"What are you thinking, Alex?" Donna, another doctor that had joined me in the operating room, asked.
"Elijah could possibly pull through this surgery with the help of his healing." I said. "But if there's wolfsbane in his system..."
I didn't have to finish the sentence as we continued working to stabilize him.
The loud beep from the heart monitor told us that his heart had stopped.
I immediately started doing chest compressions.
"Come on, Elijah!" I panted. "You can't give up on Sally now!"
Donna took over the compressions while I made the defibrillator pads ready.
"Ready." I said. "Clear!"
Everyone moved out of the way while I pressed the pads to Elijah's chest and sent a strong electric current through him. "Don't give up on me now!" I pleaded.
We continued working for a few minutes, hoping to hear his heart start beating again.
Meanwhile, I prayed to that Moon Goddess that the werewolves believed in and begged for a heartbeat.
In the end, my prayers seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
I sighed in defeat.
"Time of death?" I asked.
"10.14 PM"

Alpha Jordan POV
I stood with my arms crossed over my chest, staring at the body laid peacefully in front of me in the hospital morgue.
Joe was one of my best friends and one of the most passionate warriors I had ever seen. He was a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. That's why I made him Head warrior.
Their attack was expected, but not in that precise way.
Somehow, they knew every weakness in our defense. By the time we had started to retaliate, they had made it too far into the territory.
Fortunately, we had some extra set of hands from Hudson and his people.
He had offered to cover the south side of the territory, making it easier for us to defend the north. Thanks to them, we were able to hold our own pretty good and the Midnight warriors soon retreated. That's when the reports started flooding towards me through the mind-link.
Joe was dead.
Michael was dead.
Elijah was in critical condition.
Sally was kidnapped.
I sighed and ascended the stairs to the first floor of the hospital where I found George, Barry and Luke in the waiting room.
"How's he doing? Any news?" I asked.
They just rolled him in there." George said shakily.
Barry excused himself to go help Roberta and Hudson walked in through the doors.
"I traced them back to their territory." He said. "They have Sally with them."
George's shoulders slumped and Luke pulled him to himself.
"Sally's a tough girl." He said. "She can hold her own."
"We have to get her back." George whimpered.
"We will." I said. "We can not let this go unpunished. Alpha Richard's reign ends now."
Hudson nodded.
"We're with you." He agreed.
Everyone looked up when Alex walked into the room.
"How is he?" George asked. "Are you done already?"
Alex didn't say anything. I saw the tears gathering in his eyes.
"I'm sorry." He whispered. "I did everything I could..."
George let out a sob and hugged his mate tightly.
I saw Luke sitting down and bury his head in his hands.
"Sally must have felt the bond breaking" He said. "She must have seen it happen before they took her away."
"Hey, don't go there, Luke." Hudson said. "We don't know exactly what happened yet."
"I'm sure you did your best, Alex." I said. "The report I got said that he was shot in the head, right?"
Alex nodded and wiped his tears.
"We found traces of Wolfsbane in his system, Alpha." He hiccuped. "He had basically the healing rate of a human."
I nodded and grimaced when I felt the mind-links flooding my mind again.
"Excuse me, I have some things to take care of."
I stormed off, trying to ignore how heavy my chest felt.

Sally POV
The bed was so soft.
Still half asleep, I turned to reach for Elijah.
But the bed was empty on his side.
I frowned and opened my eyes. My eyes scanned the surroundings and my frown deepened when I found myself in a bedroom I had never been in before.
I was wearing a white linen dress and I had no idea how I got into it. My skin crawled at the idea of anyone undressing me without my consent.
The memories of everything that happened came back to me and my chest tightened painfully.
I gasped for air as I started sobbing.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that I was in the Midnight pack and this was probably a bedroom in the packhouse.
But even though I was on enemy territory, I just needed a break.
I curled up on the bed and pulled the covers over my head. Then I clutched the pillow and screamed out all my pain.
In a way, it reminded me of the time Elijah screamed into the lake. Where no one could notice his pain.
And here I was, doing the exact same thing.
Because of this pack.
This evil, evil pack.
They hurt Elijah.
My Elijah.
I hugged the pillow to my chest and cried some more.
I didn't know how much time had passed, but suddenly I heard the lock in the door click and someone entered.
Unsure if I should show myself or not, I just layed there frozen.
Footsteps approached me and I felt the bed dip beside me.
"Come out, beautiful."
Alpha Richard.
The sound of his voice made my blood boil and without thinking, I jumped up and attacked him.
I scratched, bit and kicked him in every way I could, but he grabbed my hair and threw me off the bed.
The fall knocked the wind out of me and I struggled to gather my bearings as a wave of dizziness came over me.
I crawled away from him and gasped when my back hit the wall.
He stood up and walked toward me. I glared at him and jammed my back as tightly as I could against the wall.
When he reached me, he crouched down.
"I hope you'll see that fighting me is futile, Sally." He smiled. "Soon, you'll realize that you were meant to be my Luna and you'll submit to me."
"Any chance to get me to submit to you died along with my mate." I growled.
I pulled myself up so that my face was inches away from his and glared at him.
"You are playing a dangerous game." I whispered. "Because now, I have nothing left to lose. Don't think for a second that I will submit to you. I won't. The last face you'll see before you die will be mine. That's a promise."
I walked over to the window and turned my back on him.
If he wanted to kill me, I wasn't going to stop him.
"You sure are feisty." He chuckled. "I'm going to look forward to breaking you in."
I shuddered.
I heard the door open and close behind me.
When I was sure that he was gone, I turned around and went back to the bed.
I traced the soft flesh on my neck where Elijah's mark once were. It was gone now.
He was gone.
Tears welled up in my eyes again.
I made a promise to myself, to Elijah and to the Moon Goddess that I would escape from this place.
Later.
Right now, I just needed to grieve.
