The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1640 Being Drunk

"Ms. Xia, you're welcome. What's important is that I get paid," Phoebe joked.

Sheryl wasn't only her boss but also like her sister. She had helped and cared for Phoebe over the years. Without Sheryl, she wouldn't be where she was today, so she made sure that whenever Sheryl needed help, she was there for her.

"Wow, Phoebe, you're even more positive than me and Isla." Sometimes, Sheryl admired Phoebe for being worry-free and just focusing on what she needed to do.

"Ms. Xia, Ms. Zhao, if you don't need any more help, I'm heading out now." Phoebe then put down the files she was holding and left.

It was almost time for dinner so Isla invited Sheryl out.

After the whole thing with Lewis, Sheryl didn't really feel like eating.

"Sheryl, I'm warning you, I won't stop until you eat something." Isla wouldn't allow Sheryl to work without having dinner first.

Sheryl had no choice but to go out to supper and eat with Isla.

When they arrived at the restaurant, they met with disaster-Leila was there!

'Isn't she supposed to be at the hospital around this time? What is she doing at a restaurant so near the Cloud Advertising Company?' Sheryl thought to herself, confused. She felt restless as soon as she saw the woman Leila was having dinner with.

'Doesn't that woman work in the secretary's office in Shining Company? What is she doing with Leila?'

The woman's name was Jessie Lin. Sheryl had seen her once or twice before when she had visited Charles in his office. She wasn't exactly sure at first, but now she was because Jessie looked so familiar. Before Sheryl had time to think it over, Leila approached her.

"What a small world, right?" Leila said rather arrogantly as she eyed Sheryl.

Isla was seething. Sheryl was married to Charles, and Leila was nothing lower than a home-wrecker. Where did she get the nerve to act like this all of a sudden?

"Do you know what it means when someone says that you have thick skin?" Before Sheryl could even respond, Isla suddenly chimed in.

"I'm not in the mood to argue with you. I have a lot of work to do." Leila knew that Isla wasn't one to mess with so she quickly left before they could get into any more trouble.

"I guess you're smart enough to know you shouldn't be here. Well, no one's stopping you from leaving. Get out now!" Isla waved her hand dismissively.

"Isla Zhao, this is between me and Sheryl. It's none of your business." Leila was pissed at Isla.

"Don't you know how tight Sheryl and I are? Leave now! Or I won't be liable for what I'm about to do to you!" Isla was furious. As she spoke, she pounded her fists on the table. Isla glared at Leila—who shrunk in fear as Isla looked really scary.

"Leila, I'm done. Let's go." Jessie rushed over when she sensed that something was wrong.

"Okay. Let's go. I don't want to stoop down to their level. Charles still hasn't woken up, and there's so much work to do in the company," Leila said to Jessie, making sure that Sheryl heard her. She just wanted to show off that she was working for Shining Company now.

But Sheryl didn't care. She knew that nothing was beneath Leila anyway. She was just waiting for Charles to wake up so she wouldn't have to deal with any of this anymore.

"Sheryl, why aren't you saying anything? Did you hear that? Leila's working in Shining Company now?" Isla was so angry. Leila was so confident in doing things like this because she knew Charles was in a

coma.

It would be surprising if Isla didn't get angry.

If they weren't in public, she'd have attacked Leila already.

Sheryl knew that Isla was just trying to control herself because they were in public, or else Leila would be in serious trouble right now.

"It doesn't matter. She just works as a secretary. It's not like she's the president or something. Why are you mad? She's not worth your time, Isla. Just don't talk to her again. If a dog bites you, you don't bite back. The same applies to Leila. Just calm down, okay?" Sheryl approached Isla as she spoke and gestured for her to sit down already.

"It's easier said than done. If someone treats me like this, will you be able to keep your mouth shut?" Isla rolled her eyes at Sheryl.

Sheryl thought over what Isla said. It was true. If someone treated Isa like this, she wouldn't be able to keep calm. Maybe, she'd even be worse than Isla was right now. "Alright, Isla, we should eat now."

At first, it was Isla who had been urging Sheryl to eat, but after they bumped into Leila, it was the other way round now.

Soon, they had finished eating. Isla went home while Sheryl headed to the hospital.

When Charles was transferred to the general ward, Melissa lessened her visits, which gave Sheryl the chance to visit him more.

Sheryl stayed with Charles till midnight, and then she went back home.

In a noisy bar

Lewis was sulking. He came here to have a drink after Sheryl refused to talk to him.

For a while, it was just him drinking alone. Naturally, he got drunk. He saw a woman was approaching him.

The woman was now near him. He intended to push her away, but when he raised his head, his eyes played tricks on him, which led him to believe, the woman to be Sheryl. Lewis' face lit up. He grabbed Sheryl's hand and said passionately, "Sher, did you come here for me? I love you."

"You're drunk. Let me take you home." The woman supported Lewis's arm gently as they left the bar.

Lewis felt extremely happy as he leaned against her arm even though his head was spinning.

They went to a hotel near the bar instead of Lewis' home.

"Sher, I want you." Lewis and the woman were alone in the room. Lewis was so drunk that he didn't know what was happening.

He carried the woman to the bed and started kissing her.

When he felt that the woman wasn't objecting, he started to become more careless and reckless.

Soon, their clothes were off. Lewis was satisfied, kissing the woman's sexy lips.

They spent the night making love to each other.

The next day

Lewis was nursing a hangover. He put his hands over his eyes, hoping it would make the room stop spinning. Then he realized that he was in bed with a woman. A woman he didn't know! He looked around, frightened. Lewis saw that he was in a hotel room, naked and with a strange woman.

Before he knew it, the woman had already woken up too.

"Ah... Who are you? What am I doing here?" She instinctively pulled up the quilt to cover her body. Then she started crying.
