The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1578 Jordan's Stubbornness

Captivated by Cassie's gorgeous smile, Nick found himself completely infatuated with her. He felt a strong urge to propose to Cassie right now which further convinced him that Cassie was the love of his life and he would throw her a spectacular wedding ceremony.

At the Cloud Advertising Company

Right after Sheryl and Isla returned to the company, they devoted themselves to their jobs.

Although the new project didn't require their presence, they still insisted on working in the company. Sheryl wanted to soak herself in work so that she could forget all the troubles in her life, while Isla wanted to accompany Sheryl to comfort her. As a result, they ended up spending more hours at work than their subordinates.

Since the both of them had set a good example by displaying exemplary work ethic and attitude, their colleagues were all inspired to work harder.

"Ms. Xia, Mr. Xu of the Lightning Company wants to invite you for dinner to discuss our cooperation for the coming year," Phoebe reported after she knocked at the door.

Sheryl nodded, raising one hand to hold her forehead while tapping the table with the other, seemingly lost in thoughts. After a while she asked, "Do I have any other appointments tonight?"

"No, nothing else for tonight," Phoebe answered. She knew that Sheryl didn't like socializing with business partners outside of work, but Lightning Company was an important cooperator and client of the company, so she couldn't turn him down directly.

"Okay. Put it in my schedule," Sheryl said curtly. Then she continued reading her contract.

Isla came in as soon as she found out about the dinner tonight. A taunting smirk crept over her face. Although Sheryl didn't look up, she could feel Isla's gaze. She sighed, "What are you planning this time?" "Are you aware that Mr. Xu fancies you?" Isla giggled as if it was the funniest thing she had heard lately. Sheryl stopped what she was doing and stared at Isla in silence, as if asking her to stop talking nonsense.

She was a married woman and a mother of two kids. Although she and Charles were at odds with each other as of late, she was still his wife. Moreover, not many people knew about their troubles at home. How could Mr. Xu pursue her considering all the factors?

"Isla, I don't think your real intention is to bring us together. You're just looking for an excuse to meet him!" Sheryl teased, trying to make fun of Isla.

"Sheryl, how dare you make fun of me?" Isla gasped, feigning to be aggrieved.

"I could say the same thing to you!" Sheryl winked at her. She stood up and walked over to Isla. When she saw Isla's pouted lips and blushed face, she couldn't stop laughing.

Of course, Isla knew that Sheryl would never fall in love with Mr. Xu, who always stared at Sheryl with wishful eyes. Isla just wanted to use him as an excuse to make Charles jealous.

If Charles was shameless enough to take Leila back to Dream Garden with him, why couldn't Sheryl have an affair and play around with other men?

Taking that into consideration, Isla told Sheryl what was in her mind.

Her words dumbfounded Sheryl, begging her to wonder whether she had just experienced an auditory hallucination. Sheryl shook her head and asked Isla again, "I beg your pardon. What did you just say?" Sheryl's reaction amused Isla greatly.

She gulped and then said, "I was just joking. Don't take it so seriously. I know you are not like Charles and you would never play other guys!" Unfortunately, Isla's confession didn't sound like music to Sheryl's ears either.

Sheryl pointed at the door and waived Isla off.

After she closed the door, Sheryl shook her head and smiled bitterly to herself. She put aside all the unhappy thoughts and focused on her work again.

The following two days came and went in the blink of an eye. Nick and Cassie were both discharged from the hospital. Cora, who was eager to help both her brother and her friends, paid several visits to Jordan once it was possible to do so.

Cora's involvement in Nick and Cassie's reunion made Jordan angry, and he even started to doubt whether Cora really was his sister or not. As a result, when Cora came to persuade him again, he got riled up "Cora, are you really my sister? What good would it do to you for trying so hard to bring that bitch Cassie and Nick together?" Jordan shouted at Cora. His wild eyes and furious expression frightened Cora. She had never seen Jordan so angry before and she just stared at him aghast.

After Jordan noticed Cora's frightened face, he toned it down a bit. He quickly realized that he was acting overly frenzied.

"Jordan, you already know that Cassie doesn't like you. Why can't you just let her go? I am saying this for your own good. If you keep doing these silly things, you'll miss the chance of meeting someone who is really suitable for you. Why can't you turn to other girls who love you? You would make a great catch. I'm sure there are many girls out there for you to choose from," Cora said softly, trying to persuade her brother.

She didn't expect Jordan to come around so soon. But she hoped that she could change him little by little until he gave up being so stubborn all the time.

"Of course I know that there are many girls for me to choose from. But I can't tolerate seeing Cassie and Nick together, living a happy life!" Jordan growled with hatred. He was set in his petty and unreasonable stance, almost to the point of psychological distortions.

Cora knew that she couldn't change his mind, so she decided to leave him alone. Before she left, she said to him, "Jordan, this is the last time I'm going to tell you that things won't always go the way you want them to. Cassie and Nick didn't do anything wrong. They love each other. Will you really be happy even if you manage to split them apart?"

Her straightforward attitude dumbfounded Jordan, leaving him in a trance after she left.

Meanwhile, after Cassie was discharged from the hospital, she started to work again. Although her wound still needed to be checked up every day, it didn't hinder her work routine.

Cora was on duty this afternoon, therefore Cassie was already at work when Cora came. They ran into each other in the changing room.

"Cora, is something wrong with you?" Cassie asked as soon as she saw Cora, whose face was as white as a sheet. She was afraid that Cora had caught a fever, so she went close to her and tried to feel her forehead with her palm.

Cora, however, dodged and muttered, "Cassie, I'm fine. I'm just..."

Cora paused in silence, not knowing how to continue. After all, she couldn't tell Cassie that Jordan wasn't going to give up harassing her.

"What happened?" Nevertheless, Cassie was genuinely concerned about her. 'Is Cora in some kind of trouble? Why is she refusing to talk about it?' she wondered.

Looking into Cassie's concerned eyes, Cora broke into a bitter smile. She sighed, "Do you really want to know why?"

"Of course I do! Tell me what happened!" Cassie answered anxiously, urging Cora to tell her.

Cora knew that Cassie wouldn't give up until she had unearthed every bit of information from her, so she told Cassie everything.

Cora's words almost immediately sent Cassie slumping onto the chair like a deflated balloon.

Her reaction gave Cora a jolt. She assumed that Cassie was terrified by what she had said, so she squatted down next to Cassie and said, "Cassie, I shouldn't have told you this, right?"

Cassie shook her head. After a while she answered, "I'm fine. It's not your fault, of course. Concerning Jordan's problem, I'm also guilty. If I had rejected your brother in the very beginning, he wouldn't be so stubborn now."

She really thought so from the bottom of her heart.

After hearing Cassie's sincere words, Cora shook her head and said, "Cassie, you did nothing wrong. My brother is the only one who should be blamed!"

"Cassie..." Nick, who showed up abruptly, chimed in.
