The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1562 Call the Police
Sneering, Cassie looked at Jordan's contorted face. "Jordan, if you are really a man, don't twist the facts. Now, tell me, when did I accept your proposal? All this time, you kept harassing me like a shameless dog, didn't you?"
Publicly humiliated by her sarcastic statement, Jordan replied defiantly, "Yes, I did. But realization hit me. And, when it did, I decided to dump you. Are you mad at me because I dumped you?" A vicious smile spread over his face.
What Cassie heard made her so angry that she failed to utter even a single word. Jordan was indeed the most shameless guy she had ever encountered in her entire life.
"All right, Cassie. Don't lose your temper over someone like him. Everyone knows you would never stoop to date a piece of shit like him. He just wanted to get even with you for not accepting his love. He thinks by just grabbing some random girl from the street can provoke you. What a naive guy! Just ignore his little tricks," Nick comforted.
This time, Nick sneered. And, it was downright insulting.
Meaning to insult Cassie by taunting her, Jordan did what he thought would be most effective. However, he hadn't expected Nick to have a sharper tongue than him, and it rendered him speechless. "Cassie, my baby, cheer up. A bad mood will destroy your beautiful skin. Your face will be full of wrinkles and you will get ugly," Nick continued. Then he enfolded Cassie in his arms gently, and looked at her with loving eyes like she was his whole world.
The anger Cassie felt gradually faded away because of Nick's comforting words. A few minutes later, she burst into a grin.
Meanwhile, the woman in Jordan's arms was not feeling good at the moment.
'What did Nick mean by talking about grabbing some random girl from the street?
Do they assume that I'm a cheap girl?' she wondered angrily.
Not for a moment had she thought of herself inferior to Cassie. She was also young and beautiful. But what annoyed her completely was Jordan's reaction. Not a single word came out from his mouth to defend her against Nick's insults. 'It's a big possibility he thinks the same of me,' she thought bitterly.
Hurt, she dragged herself so fast out of Jordan's arms. Then, she turned and walked away furiously.
"Marilyn!" Jordan called out.
"Don't dare call out my name! You shame me!" Marilyn shouted back snappily. Afterwards, Marilyn walked towards the crowd and was lost in it.
Meaning to annoy Nick and Cassie was what Jason wanted to achieve. Instead, he ended up without any success. A failure...
Jordan glared at Nick furiously. Then, he pointed at Nick and shouted, "Nick, you're courting death!"
"Ooh...Somebody is angry now," Nick taunted. Looking at Jordan with contempt, Nick didn't feel sorry at all. He thought that Jordan deserved it—he started the fight anyway. He wouldn't take the blame Jordan was passing onto him just because Jordan lost the fight.
Because of this, Jordan was so enraged that he reached out to hit Nick.
In terms of physique, Nick was obviously at a disadvantage. Nick wasn't that tall. He was skinny and bookish. He had the nerd look. On the other hand, Jordan was very tall and had a strong body. His presence was intimidating enough. So when the fistfight started, Nick was completely overpowered within several seconds.
Freaking out, Cassie screamed, trying to stop them. However, Nick and Jordan had no intention of stopping. When Cassie looked at Nick, she could see the guy had been punched in the face.
Cassie turned to Jordan this time. "Jordan, stop! Do you hear me?" Cassie commanded, shouting. Instead of stopping, Jordan continued to throw punches at Nick. This time, more intense and powerful. He was so furious at Cassie for trying to protect his rival.
Realizing that she had no influence over Jordan, Cassie was thinking of a way to stop them as soon as possible. Looking around, her eyes stopped at a nearby restaurant. She ran towards it and grabbed the wine bottle on the table. She rushed back towards Jordan, and smashed the bottle over his head.
"Aargh!" Jordan cried out as he touched his aching head.
"Cassie, are you all right?" Nick asked nervously. When Nick saw Cassie standing behind Jordan motionlessly, he thought that she was injured.
Terrified, Cassie turned to look at Nick. She was so worried for him. She felt like she had just woken up from a brief nightmare. She suddenly spaced out after hitting Jordan and seeing the blood. Jordan called the police immediately.
Half an hour later, he was sent to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Nick and Cassie were taken to the police station.
"Why did you arrest us?" Cassie asked angrily as she glared at the police officer.
"Stop shouting! Don't you know that hurting other people is a crime?" the police officer snapped impatiently.
Seeing the police officer's attitude, she knew it would be no use to argue with him. She opted to be silent.
Noticing her obedience, the police said, "Behave yourself! You have to stay here tonight. If you want to go out, ask someone to bail you out tomorrow!"
The officer was in a bad mood because he was on duty tonight. So he vented his anger on Nick and Cassie.
His attitude annoyed Cassie. When Cassie was about to argue back, Nick shook his head to stop her.
When the police left, Nick said, "We did hurt Jordan severely. He is in the hospital because of us. It's not a big deal to stay here for one night. Moreover, it's already too late to ask anyone to help us out." Seeing the logic behind Nick's reasoning, Cassie agreed silently.
At midnight
In Walter's house
The phone rang. The couples' sleep was disturbed.
Eyebrows knitted, Cecilia shook Walter's arm and asked, "Who is it? Oh my God, why does anyone call you in the middle of the night? It's so annoying!"
Then she turned over to her other side, ready to sleep again.
Furious because of the unwanted call, Walter thought, 'If this call turns out to be a prank, I swear, I'll hunt them down and kill them!'
"Who is this?" shouting, Walter asked angrily.
Hearing the voice on the other end, Walter suddenly sat up straight. Sleep left his body.
"Okay, okay, no problem. I assure you, I'll do what you have told me," Walter kept nodding as he replied.
Though the man's voice on the other end was gentle enough, Walter still felt so scared that goose bumps appeared all over his exposed skin.
"You have my word. I promise I'll complete it successfully," Walter answered in a trembling voice, almost stammering, As soon as Cecilia heard her husband answer the person on the other end so respectfully, she lost her sleepiness. She became curious and listened carefully.
When the call ended, Walter remained motionless for a little while.
"Dear, who called you just now? Is there something wrong?" asked Cecilia, tugging on Walter's arm.
"Stop it!" Walter removed her hands on him and pushed her aside impatiently.
"Why are you shouting at me? I am just asking! Humph!" Cecilia complained. Having almost a decade's age gap, Walter treasured his young and beautiful wife. Her charm and coquetry always pleased him. This was one of those rare moments he shouted at her, which made Cecilia a bit angry.
She silently lay in bed, her back to Walter.
Completely distracted by the call, Walter was lost in thought. Suddenly, an idea came to him. He picked up the phone and dialed. A few moments later, he ordered someone to accomplish something the next morning.
Having received a positive response, Walter started to relax.
Hanging up the phone, he breathed a sigh of relief.
When everything was settled, he realized that his wife was extremely angry at him. He smiled and cradled her in his arms.
"Dear, did I scare you just now?" Walter asked softly as he ran his fingers over her body gently.
Being smart, Cecilia became the wife of the police chief. She knew how to attract a man's attention without annoying him. So, even though she was still angry, she pouted her lips and moved closer to Walter. Striking him lightly with her fist, she complained, "You were so rude. I asked you because I cared about you. How could you get mad at me?"
