The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1521 Nick Got Injured

Cassie started to worry about Nick. She wanted to follow the direction that Nick had been heading for, but she was also worried that Nick would come back soon. So she decided to wait for him where he'd left her.

"Officers, Nick headed there to chase the culprit. Could you look for him in that direction? He asked me to wait here," Cassie said to the police.

The police nodded and ran to the direction that Cassie pointed to.

As time passed, Cassie got more and more anxious as she waited, unable to do anything.

She prayed to God to bless Nick. If someone must bear misfortune, let it be her instead of Nick.

Soon, Cassie waited until it was time to knock off. But Nick and the police officers still hadn't come back.

Cassie became desperate. She had a gut feeling that something must have happened to Nick. Otherwise they should have come back already.

Cassie couldn't stand still any longer at the thought of it. When she was about to dash to look for them, a police officer came over. "Officer, what..."

The police officer didn't let her finish her sentence. "Nick's injured. He's in the emergency room right now. Follow me," he said urgently. Cassie's face turned white as a sheet. That was the last thing she wanted.

"Let's go," Cassie said, wasting no time.

'God! Please save Nick! Be safe, Nick!'

Cassie prayed in her heart as they ran to the ER. She only hoped that Nick's injury wasn't so bad and that he could still recover.

When she finally reached the emergency room, she found that the doors were closed. Nick was still in surgery.

Outside the operating room, Cassie waited restlessly. She paced back and forth unable to keep still.

When a police officer noticed how worried she was, he walked over to her. "Nick just got a deep cut so he bled, but it isn't anything deadly, Miss Li. You don't have to worry too much." "How did he get injured?" Cassie asked immediately.

"We followed the path but didn't see Nick or the culprit you mentioned. We continued searching and found some blood stains on the floor. We followed the blood path until we found Nick. He was lying unconsciously in a doorway," the police explained.

"Did you see the culprit?" Cassie asked.

The police shook his head and said, "No. The culprit had gone already when we arrived. He must have escaped after he attacked Nick. When we saw Nick, he was lying in a pool of his own blood. It looked like he'd been there for a while. He definitely wasn't just attacked."

All the blood had run out from Cassie's face. It didn't bode well with her that Nick had been attacked.

What if the police didn't find him in time? What if they were too late? Then Nick would...

'Oh my God!' Cassie's heart twisted at just the thought of it.

"Anyway, thank you, officers. Thanks for saving him," Cassie said sincerely.

However, the police officers seemed embarrassed. They sounded guilty when they said, "It's our fault. We let the culprit escape, and Nick almost got killed. We should be apologizing."

Cassie praised them for being so brave and ended the conversation promptly. She couldn't focus on anything but Nick.

Soon, the light of the emergency room was switched off and the doors opened.

Cassie approached the two doctors that came out. She asked anxiously, "Doctor Liu, how's the patient?"

"Cassie, he's your...?"

"He's my boyfriend. Doctor Liu, how is he?" Cassie asked.

"He's fine for now, but he lost so much blood so he's pretty weak. I need his family because he needs to be confined. Do you know where his family is?" Doctor Liu looked around, only to find police officers everywhere.

"I'm his family. I'll take care of everything. Please make sure the nurses look after him, thank you," Cassie said sincerely.

Doctor Liu sighed, "Fine. Go ahead. Don't worry about him."

The gurney was wheeled out. Cassie stared at the unconscious Nick who was lying in bed, and tears streamed down her cheeks. She wiped them dry and left to fix the papers for his confinement.

When she'd gotten everything fixed, Cassie talked to the head nurse and asked if she could have a three-day leave. She knew that Nick would need careful attendance on the first three days. She didn't trust anyone except herself. Nick was her boyfriend, and she would do her best to help him recover.

Nick still hadn't woken up. The police decided to leave because they wouldn't know when he would wake up. They comforted Cassie before leaving.

After all, they couldn't do anything until Nick had woken up.

Cassie sat at the edge of the bed, watching Nick silently. His face was a little roughed up probably from the attack. She went to the bathroom and prepared a warm, damp towel to clean it. She touched his face and wiped it gently.

Tears started falling from Cassie's eyes again. She couldn't help it. A tear drop fell on Nick's face.

For fear that this would disturb Nick, she thought she would wipe it clean for him. However, just as she was reaching out, another hand gripped hers.

A little startled, she looked up, only to be greeted by Nick's soft eyes.

"Nick!" Cassie shrieked. "Nick, you're awake!"

Nick seemed to be very weak. He felt as if he'd just woken up from a long and exhausting dream. His dream was fuzzy and everything was unrecognizable. He was dizzy and tired. When he woke up, the first thing he saw was Cassie.

"Cassie, where am I?" Nick asked as he touched his forehead, his face contorted from the pain.

Cassie helped him sit up. She put a pillar under his back, and replied, "This is the hospital. You were injured."

"Hospital?" Nick repeated in disbelief. He looked around and asked again, "Why am I in hospital?"

"You were attacked by the culprit, remember? He escaped. When the police found you, you were lying in a pool of your own blood..." Cassie said. It pained her just to even retell the story.

Nick tried to recall the scene and all the memories suddenly came back to him. It got him so riled up that he punched his bed.

Cassie was shocked. She asked, concerned, "Nick, what's wrong? Does anything feel painful? Tell me!"
