The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1483 I Am Back

"You..." Without giving it any second thought, Sheryl chased the woman. Unfortunately, the woman was way faster than her. She managed to disappear without giving Sheryl a glimpse of her face. Feeling defeated, Sheryl stood still as her thoughts began to run wild.

'Who is that woman? And why does she look so familiar to me?' she wondered as if she was in a daze. Something in her heart tugged her. With certainty, she made up her mind that she knew her. Yet none of these questions had an answer. Sheryl went back to her seat once she realized there wasn't much she could do about this. But her mind remained occupied with these thoughts. She was so invested in it that she didn't even hear Phoebe's call.

"Ms. Xia, you have a meeting at three. Would you..." Phoebe stopped speaking when she noticed how still Sheryl was. She was lost in her own world. A look of confusion crossed Phoebe's face. "Ms. Xia, can you hear me?" Phoebe asked while waving her hand in front of Sheryl. Finally, Sheryl came out of her reverie.

"Ah, what?" she asked confusedly.

"Ms. Xia, it looks like you didn't hear a word that I uttered," Phoebe said in a matter-of-fact way.

"I am sorry, Phoebe. I am with you right now so you can continue." Sheryl held a glass of water and took a sip. Then something occurred to her, so she immediately looked at Phoebe and asked, "Were you here the whole time?"

They were sitting at a table which faced the door. If Phoebe hadn't left her seat, then there was a good chance she must have noticed the strange woman's departure.

"Yeah, I was here. Is something wrong, Ms. Xia?" Phoebe asked as her confusion intensified.

"Here is the thing. I bumped into a woman while I was in the bathroom. I don't know why but I feel like I have known her. Is there any chance you have seen her leave?" Sheryl continued to describe the woman's outfit to Phoebe. "She's about 1.65 meters tall, almost my age. She has long curly hair and wore a long wind coat. Oh, she is also wearing a bucket hat. Did you see her?"

The more she spoke, the more dazzled Phoebe looked. If such a woman passed Phoebe, she definitely would have remembered. In spite of wracking her brain, she had no recollection of seeing someone with a wind coat and bucket hat.

"Ms. Xia, I can guarantee you that I haven't seen the woman you are describing."

"Oh, okay. Just forget it then," Sheryl replied, feeling a little upset. There was a part of her that believed it wasn't a coincidence that this woman had shown up at the restaurant.

Phoebe detected the disappointment that was evidently written on Sheryl's face. In an attempt to divert her attention, she continued to brief Sheryl about her schedule. The trick worked well because Sheryl instantly fell into work mode.

Sheryl and Phoebe left the restaurant after they finished their meal. One last time, Sheryl inspected her surrounding, searching for the strange woman.

Phoebe, on the other hand, did the same. Feeling defeated once again, Sheryl gave up on her pursuit.

As soon as Sheryl and Phoebe were out of sight, the woman dressed in a long wind coat showed up in the corner.

She was at the restaurant the whole time. It was just that she didn't want to be seen by Sheryl or Phoebe.

Looking at Sheryl's back, the woman took off her bucket hat. Under the hat was a pretty face.

Her eyes were sharp and cold.

'Sheryl, I am back. I have come to take what belongs to me. I am taking it all, including your Charles!' the woman thought to herself.

At the hospital

Cassie walked into Isla's ward with a warm smile on her face. She lent a helping hand in packing her handbag.

"Isla, I am glad you have recovered so soon. But don't forget to take some rest. Also, keep in mind that your diet is of utmost importance. Spicy food should be avoided at any cost..." "Alright. Just the mention of spicy food is making me want to drool. Please stop nagging me." After this, Isla feigned annoyance. She then grabbed a pillow, trying to throw it at Cassie. "Isla, I am sorry!" Cassie was in a good mood, so she teased back.

The atmosphere in the ward was filled with fun. While they were immersed in this joy, a familiar voice spoke.

"Are you done? What's going on?"

Cassie and Isla instantly left the pillow. Together, their eyes turned to the door. It was Nick.

"Cassie, seems like your boyfriend is extremely needy. You both were apart only for a few hours. And look at him. He seems so eager to have you back," Isla teased once again. Her words brought blush onto Nick's and Cassie's faces.

"Isla, you have to stop teasing me. If you continue, then I won't help you pack your luggage."

"Alright, I will stop. But I just can't imagine the two of you living together. I mean, you two are way too shy for it. Will you both be able to sleep together without blushing?"

Hearing her words, Cassie and Nick looked at each other. They were both crimson red by now.

Isla derived a lot of pleasure in taunting them.

Just when she was about to continue, she got interrupted by a call from Aron. It turned out something had happened at his company. Hurriedly, he requested Isla to wait for him in the ward since he was preoccupied dealing with the problem. He also said he would send a driver to pick her up.

"Don't bother, Aron. I already got someone who can drop me. I suggest you focus on your work," Isla said curtly.

"Who is that someone? Is it Sheryl?" Aron asked while he rapidly typed on his computer. He was good at multitasking.

Isla could hear him clicking on his keyboard from the other end of the phone. Deep down, she felt sorry for Aron. "Just don't worry about me. I have it all sorted. You just concentrate on your work." "Okay, take care. I will be home early tonight."

"You don't have to come early for me. Take your time and finish your work. I already asked Sheryl for dinner tonight. I might be home late."

"But Isla, you just recovered today. I don't think it is good for you to go out for dinner. Instead, why don't you invite Sheryl home? I could cook for the two of you."

Realizing how considerate he was, Isla felt unexplainable love for him. She turned around and took a glance at Nick and Cassie. They were both smiling from ear to ear. Isla realized she was the one blushing right now. 'The tables have turned. Now I am the one getting teased,' she thought with a smile.

So Isla quickly tried to wrap it up. "Aron, I will make sure to stay away from spicy food. But I cannot cancel the plan since I already asked Sheryl and Nick out. It won't look nice to make changes in the last minute."

"Okay, if that's what you want. But please come home early. I will be waiting for you." Aron hung up the phone reluctantly.

After keeping the phone, Isla turned around and found that Cassie and Nick were laughing. She was not surprised.

"Isla, Aron is such a thoughtful and considerate man. I am happy to see him take such good care of you," Cassie complimented Aron.

Nick nodded his head in agreement.

Internally, Isla was happy but she glared at Cassie and said, "Well, he has a bad temper. When you get married, you'll know what I am talking about."

Cassie blushed once again and she looked at Nick instinctively. And their gaze met. Cassie lowered her head immediately but she could feel her heart jumping out of her chest.

Once they were done packing, Nick carried the handbag to his car. Isla sat in the back seat, leaving the passenger seat to Cassie.
