152 Nymeris Lyla I struggled between sleep and consciousness .

My heart raced as I took a tentative step forward , my bare feet sinking into the soft earth .

The compound was quiet except for the rustling of leaves as I moved on them .

I turned in a slow circle , trying to understand my surroundings , when suddenly someone threw open the wooden gate guarding the compound .
