The Alpha King's Rebellious Queen
The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 64

Without Cassius, I found myself unable to sleep soundly. I ended up curled up on his side of the bed with his pillow to try and help. But I just laid on my back trying not to cry. The morning light was beginning to shine through the windows and I got up and walked to the balcony and walked out. I sat on the lounger and watched the sunrise. The birds waking up and the soft breeze lulled me to sleep and before long I awoke suddenly and felt my usual morning nausea. After dealing with that and my morning routine I dressed in a blue skirt with a white shirt and blue jacket. I then went across the hall to get Nicky up and ready for the day.

My pup was already up and playing with his cars when I walked in. “Good morning, Nicky.” I greeted him. He waved to me. “Ready to get dressed and go to breakfast.”

“Okay, Mommy.”

I got him dressed and took him downstairs to the dining hall. Everyone stood up as we walked in. I held him on my h*p as I greeted those in the hall. “Good morning, everyone. It’s just another day. Let’s make the most of it.” I set Nicky on his chair and then sat in mine as the omegas brought out breakfast. It was omelets with toast this morning.

After breakfast, I took Nicky to pupcare and then walked to the office. I was trying to keep my mind off of what happened between Jeremy and me as I got to work. Maria joined me for a few hours to help. We jammed to heavy metal and the work seemed to melt away. ‘Jemma,’ My brother’s voice sounded in my head.

‘Yes, Iain?’ I answered him.

‘Jeremy wants to know if you want to have lunch with him and Nick?’

I pinched the bridge of my nose and thought. ‘Can you be there, Iain?’ I asked him. I didn’t feel like being alone with Jeremy right now.

‘I guess. I was going to hang with some of the other guys,’ He explained.

‘At the dorm cafeteria?’ I asked him.

‘Yeah.’

‘Tell Jeremy I’ll meet you guys there with Nicky.’

There was a pause. ‘Did something happen with Jeremy last night?’

‘No.’ I answered quickly with a lie. I didn’t want my brother involved.

‘Okay.’ He responded a second later. ‘See you later.’

I sighed and saw Maria staring at me. “What?” I asked the delta.

“You seem off this morning.”

“I had trouble sleeping last night,” It wasn’t a total lie. I did have trouble sleeping. The delta remained silent as I typed out an email while moving my head to Slayer.

“Yeah, I have trouble sleeping when I am away from Angela,” She said after a minute.

“I wore one of his shirts and slept on his side of the bed and everything. Just didn’t help. I did manage to fall asleep on the balcony.” After taking a few calls it was finally lunchtime and my stomach was rumbling with hunger. I rubbed my belly, “Okay pups. I’m getting lunch now.”

I walked into pupcare and the ladies looked at me with slight confusion. “Hello, your majesty. Did Nick forget something?” Barb asked me.

My eyes narrowed at her, “What? I am here to pick him up.”

Barb looked at Grace and then back at me. “His father just picked him up a few minutes ago.”

A low growl rumbled out of my chest. “How come I wasn’t told?”

“You said he was allowed to pick up Nick any time and he said you already knew,” Barb explained with a hint of nervousness.

“Thank you, Barb,” I mumbled as I walked out of the building. I looked around before I remembered I could mind link, Jeremy. ‘Jeremy where are you?’

‘Getting lunch with Nick.’

‘How come you didn’t tell me you were taking him?’

‘You said I could pick him up any time. He is my son, Jemma.’

I blew out a frustrated breath and growled. ‘I know Jeremy. Where are you?’

‘We are in the little park on palace grounds. I got enough food for all of us.’

I sighed. I had wanted to stay close to Iain. But I figured in a public place there wouldn’t be a problem. ‘Iain, I’m going to the park to eat lunch with Jeremy. Have fun with your friends.’ I linked my brother.

‘Okay, Jemma.’ My brother’s voice sounded hesitant. ‘You sound upset.’

‘I’m pregnant, Iain. My emotions are all over the place.’ I snapped at him.

‘Alright.’ He said before cutting off the link.

I walked quickly to the park and heard my son giggling. He was running around the playground chasing another pup. I spied Jeremy nearby at a picnic table setting out food. I walked over to him and folded my arms.

He looked up and shrugged. “Sorry I didn’t tell you my plans. I just wanted us to spend some time as a family.”

I sighed. “Jeremy, we aren’t a family.”

“Jemma, we share a child and we have known each other our whole lives. That makes us family.” He held out his hands. “Eat. I got us some big sandwiches and chips.”

I sat down at the table and he had gotten my favorite ham and roast beef sandwich with extra onions and extra pickles. “You remembered?”

“Of course.” He smiled sweetly. “I am going to go catch our pup, be right back.” He jogged over to the playground while calling to Nicky.

I bit into my sandwich and looked around to see my personal guards surrounding the table. I smiled at Sam. ‘Is everything alright, Sam?’ I asked the leader.

He flicked his eyes towards me. ‘Of course, your majesty. Just keeping an eye on things while you are outside.’ He replied.

Nicky ran over to the table with Jeremy close behind. I gave Nicky a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a banana. He ate happily as Jeremy ate a turkey sandwich. Jeremy looked around us. “What’s with the goon squad?”

My guard had been increased to ten warriors including Sam. I shrugged. “They are my personal guard.” I was used to them that it no longer bothered me.

“What they don’t trust you outside by yourself?” He said with an edge of anger.

“Don’t worry about it, Jeremy,” I said as I popped a chip into my mouth. I sipped some lemonade and checked to make sure my son was eating. “So, how is alpha/beta training going with Iain?”

Jeremy was still glaring at my guards. “It’s alright, I guess. It’s sitting in a classroom hearing someone else dictate how I am supposed to do my job.”

“It’s supposed to help build unity between packs, “I stated.

“I think it’s a waste of time,” He scoffed. “My dad has been teaching me everything I should need. And it’s in my b***d to be a beta.” He glanced at our son. “I wish it was in Nick’s b***d.” He sounded bitter.

“You should be happy that Iain declared Nicky his heir.”

Jeremy snorted, “Yeah I should but it’s a male thing. We want our pups to follow us. Not their uncles.”

“Maybe you and Esther will have a son and that one can follow you,” I said as Jeremy stiffened and his expression darkened.

“I doubt that,” He nearly growled making Nicky jump.

“What’s wrong Daddy?”

Jeremy touched Nicky’s arm and his expression softened. “Nothing, buddy. Eat your lunch.” His eyes flicked to mine.

We ate in silence until we were all full. I patted my belly and burped. “Oop, excuse me.”

Nicky let out a burp of his own and giggled. “Excuse me.”

“Ready to go back to pupcare?” I asked him.

“We can’t hang out some more, Jem?” Jeremy asked.

I shook my head. “No, I have more office stuff to catch up on and you have classes.”

“Can’t that stuff wait?”

“Jeremy, I am the queen. It’s my job. I wish Cassius was here to help but it falls on me.” I explained as he rolled his eyes.

“Why isn’t he here to do it?”

I stood up from the table and began gathering the trash and discarding it nearby in a receptacle. “Jeremy, why are you arguing with me about this? Cassius has his duties as king and I have my duties as queen. We can maybe hang out later or something if I am not too tired.” I clasped Nicky’s little hand, “Come on baby.”

Jeremy got up and followed us. We reached pupcare and I leaned down to hug Nicky. “You be a good pup, Nicky. Alright?”

“Okay Mommy,” He smiled and waved at Jeremy. “Bye Daddy.”

Jeremy ruffled his hair. “See you later, buddy.”

Nicky giggled and ran into the playroom and joined his friends. I stood for a moment watching him before walking out of the building. Jeremy was close behind me. “I’ll see you later Jeremy.” He kept following me and I tried to ignore it. “What do you want Jeremy,” I asked him as we entered the palace.

“I am just walking with my best friend,” He grinned at me.

Sighing I continued towards the office. I needed Cassius. I could mind link him but I needed to handle this on my own. I was Jemma MacKenzie after all. I didn’t take s**t from anyone. I stopped at the door to the office. “Okay, I’m here. Bye.”

Jeremy leaned in towards me and grabbed my arm. “Tell me, Jemma. Tell me you feel something between us.” He said against my ear.

My body shivered from the close contact. “I do feel something Jeremy. But not what you are hoping I feel.”

“I love you, Jemma.” He blurted out. “I have always loved you.”

My heart started to race as he traced the back of his hand down my cheek. “Jeremy. Stop.” I mumbled. “What about Esther?”

He snarled. “Esther? I rejected that cold bitch.”

I gasped at his declaration. “Why?”

“Because she is not the one I am meant to be with. You are the one I am meant to be with. You always have.”

I placed my hand on his chest in an attempt to push him backward. “Well, I am with Cassius.”

“Only because you have to be. Not because you want to be.” Jeremy pushed against my hand and boxed me between his arms. I looked around the hall and we were alone. Of course.

“I want to be.” I struggled to free myself.

Jeremy ran his hand down my cheek again. “Come on Jemma. I heard you crying the day you left home. You didn’t want to be here. You didn’t want him,” He leaned in and hovered above my lips.

“Jeremy, stop.” I tried pushing him away. “I love Cassius.”

He growled as his eyes turned black. “How can you love the man that forced you to give up your son?” He pulled away from me. His fists balled up. “Do you remember how I had to pry Nick off of you? Do you? Or have you forgotten? Our son was traumatized. It took me days to get him calm, Jemma.”

I felt tears threatening to fall as he spoke. The day I was forced to leave surfacing in my memories. For days I had nightmares about it as I heard my son screaming for me and I was unable to get to him.

“See you are crying about it. It still affects you. I would never do anything like that to you.”

I sniffled and looked away from him. “Cassius and I have worked through it. Alright. You need to get over the fact that I moved on from you. You left me. You went with Esther.”

“I never wanted Esther, Jemma!” Jeremy practically yelled. “My father forced me to accept her. Alright? I hate that bitch.”

I was a little shocked to hear what he said. He and Esther had seemed to be in love. “But you guys seemed happy.”

“No! She wouldn’t even have s*x with me. The last two years have been misery. But now I am free from her. So I can be with you. We can go away together Jemma. Take Nick and travel the world.”

“Jeremy you are deluded. I am not going to leave Cassius. Hell, I am pregnant with his pups.”

“We can wait till you give birth. Come on Jemma.” He pressed his body against mine pinning me to the door.

“No Jeremy! It’s not happening. I couldn’t reject Cassius even if I wanted to. And I am not leaving him. I love Cassius.”

He snarled loudly and crashed his lips against mine. I felt pain in my chest as he attempted to push his tongue into my mouth.

‘Sam!’ I mind-linked my guard. ‘Sam, I need you.’ I called out. With a growl, I managed to get my hands on Jeremy’s chest and pushed him off of me with all of my strength. He stumbled backward just as Sam and two other guards ran towards us. Jeremy tried lunging for me and was grabbed by Sam and the other two.

“Jemma!” He shouted to me.

Tears fell down my cheeks as I watched him struggle with the guards. “Escort him back to the dorms, please,” I ordered the guards.

“You don’t want him in the dungeons?” Sam asked.

“No, Sam. Do as I say.” I looked back at Jeremy. He was snarling and growling as the guards escorted him away. I didn’t know what else I was going to do. I should have had Jeremy locked up. But I couldn’t do that to my son. Walking into the office I slumped into Cassius’s chair and began to sob. My phone began to ring and I jumped. It was Cassius.

“Jemma!” His frantic voice made me relax slightly. “What is wrong? I am feeling all kinds of emotions from you and-” He trailed off. I knew he felt the k**s. “Enoch is going nuts.”

‘Leonora, please try to calm Enoch.’ I told my wolf.

‘I am trying Jemma. He felt that k**s.’

‘Did you tell him I didn’t want it?’

‘Again I am trying.’ My wolf snarled.

‘I’m sorry, Leonora. Keep trying. I’ll talk to Cassius.’ I took a deep breath. I needed to tell my mate the truth. “Jeremy kissed me.” I blurted out as Cassius let out a loud growl.

“HE WHAT!” He bellowed.

“Cassius, please. Calm down. I didn’t want the k**s. He forced me.” I sobbed into the phone as I heard things breaking in the background. “Cass, please don’t wreck whatever packhouse you are in.”

“I’m sorry Jemma. It just enrages me to hear another male kissed MY mate.” He roared. “I want him arrested and shackled in the dungeons.”

“No. Please,” I begged.

“Jemma!”

“I just had him escorted back to the dorms.”

“That’s not good enough!” An enraged Cassius growled. “He needs to be punished.”

“Can you stop? It was just a misunderstanding.” I left out the part about Jeremy wanting me to go away with him. “I can’t have him locked up. I can’t do that to Nicky.”

I heard Cassius take a deep breath. “Jemma.”

“I won’t be alone with him anymore. Alright? I have to figure out what I am going to do about this so Nicky doesn’t get hurt. Please let me handle this.” I sniffled.

“Alright, but you better have your guards or Iain around if you have to talk to him.”

“I can do that, Cass. I promise. I love you.”

He sighed, “I love you too.” He sounded much calmer. “I will be home tomorrow.”

“I miss you so much, baby. I can’t sleep without you.”

A low chuckle came out of him. “Neither can I, love. How are my pups doing?”

“They are good,” I replied to him.

“I have to go, now. Please be careful.”

“I will, Cass. Bye.” I said and hung up the phone. I sighed and put my head in my hands. I sensed someone walking towards me and looked up to see Maria standing in front of the desk.

“So, what do you want me to do about-“

“Nothing,” I replied to her.

“A male who wasn’t your mate forced you to k**s him and you want me to do nothing about it?” She sat down in front of the desk.

“Maria, he is my son’s father.”

She shrugged. “That’s no excuse, Jemma.”

Tears fell down my cheeks again. “I know. But what can I do?”

“Have him watched for now.”

I nodded. “Alright. I’ll also ask my brother to keep a close eye on him.”

“That’s a start.”

“Maria, what am I going to do? He wanted me to go away with him. Take Nicky and just leave.” I leaned back in the chair that smelled like Cassius. “What am I going to tell Nicky?”

“This is a tough situation to be in. You don’t want to hurt your son. I understand. But Mr. Warner needs to learn his place. He can’t be assaulting the queen without consequences.” Maria explained. “I know you two have history. But that’s just it. History.”

“He rejected his mate for me.”

“Again, that doesn’t make a difference. You need to put that history aside. He could have hurt you, Jemma. Hurt your pups.” Her tone was serious. “You have to think like a queen right now. Put aside your feelings and act.”

My shoulders slumped. “Cassius wants him punished.”

“That can be arranged.”

“Maria!” I glared at her.

The delta sighed. “Look, for now, the supervision should be fine. If you choose to be around him don’t do so alone.”

“Okay, that works for now. Should we still have dinner tonight?”

Maria shrugged. “I wouldn’t but maybe if your brother is there, it should be fine.”

I nodded. “I’ll do that.”

After we finished our work I left the office. I had asked Maria to pick up Nicky when she picked up Nico to watch him. I needed to speak with Jeremy. ‘Iain, where are you?’ I linked my brother.

‘Playing video games with my friends. Why?’

‘I need to talk to Jeremy and I want you to help me.’ I explained to my brother.

‘Okay, Jemma. I’m here for you.’

‘Thank you, Iain.’ I had Sam and one of my guards accompany me to the dorms. Iain was standing out in front as I approached. “Where is Jeremy?”

“He is in the game room.”

“Okay take me there.”

My brother leads us into the dorm and the small game room. Jeremy was playing a game on his phone while sitting at a table. He glared at the guards and then looked at me.

“Jeremy, we need to talk,” I told him as I took a seat at the table. Iain sat beside me.

“We can’t talk without your goon squad?”

I shook my head. “No, we can’t.” I sighed and looked into the eyes of my former lover. “Look, Jeremy. I know you have delusions about us. And I do still have feelings for you. But they aren’t romantic. I care about you. But I only see you as my friend and the father of my son. Nothing else.”

Jeremy gripped his phone and glared at me. “You keep telling yourself that.”

Iain growled at him. I placed a hand on my brother’s arm. “We can’t be alone anymore. And the only time we will be together is for our son’s sake. Cassius wants you locked up in the dungeon but I won’t do that to Nicky.”

“Cassius, Cassius, Cassius,” Jeremy snarled as his eyes turned black.

“Yes, Jeremy. Cassius. He is my mate. My soulmate. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you and Esther. But I truly love Cassius. I am having his pups. He is my everything and I am his. You need to move on.”

Jeremy stood up and knocked over the table. Iain took a protective stance in front of me as my guards flanked me. “I will never get over you, Jemma!” Jeremy yelled. “You will be mine! No matter what I have to do!” He roared before running out of the room.

“Sam, keep a detail on him, please,” I said to my guard.

“Yes, your majesty.”

I looked at my brother and then collapsed into his arms and sobbed. He just held me tight. “Iain, can you stay with me tonight?”

“Yes, Jemma.”

“We can order dinner and watch movies. I just don’t want to be alone tonight.”

“I’ll be right at your side, sis. Like always.” My brother smiled softly at me. “Come on. I’ll take you to your room.”

“We have to stop and get Nicky first. He is with the delta and her mate.” I explained to him.

We went back to the palace and picked up Nicky. Then I called Cassius while Iain and Nicky sat on the couch arguing about what to watch. I sat beside them. “What do you guys want for dinner?”

“Chicky nuggets,” Nicky stated.

“Okay.” I was going to just let my son have his favorite tonight. “Iain? I can have the kitchen make anything you want.”

He shrugged. “Just a burger would be fine.”

“Your usual?” I smiled at him. He nodded and I called the kitchen and ordered our food. Nicky laid on Iain’s chest as we watched Cars 2. Our food came and we ate and laughed. When I felt tired I crawled into bed. I decided to let Nicky sleep with me in the bed while Iain slept on the couch. I found myself able to sleep better with my son and twin nearby. My heart hurt over the situation with Jeremy. Things with him would never be the same and I honestly questioned if it was safe to allow Nicky around him. I needed to call my father and Jeremy’s father. Tears fell down my cheeks as I fell asleep.
