Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love
Chapter 374 Day And Night

Nancy and Doris spent the entire day strolling in the city. They window-shopped, sat and chilled in a coffee shop, and basically just caught up as if after a long time of not seeing each other. Just as the two of them were about to get in the car and go home, someone suddenly shouted, "Doris!1'

Immediately, they turned around and saw a man running towards them.

"Felix Mu..." Doris uttered while her face turned pale as a paper.

And upon hearing the name that escaped her friend's lips, Nancy was frozen to her feet.

'Is this man her childhood sweetheart that Doris often mentioned?' she thought, stealing a glance at her friend, who looked as if she pissed in her pants.

"How about I go first, Doris?" she teased and prepared to step inside the car.

However, before she could even lift her foot, Doris tightly grabbed her hand and uttered, "No! Stay here."

Her relationship with Felix Mu had become a thing of the past, and yet, a pang of pain would still prick her heart every time those memories crossed her mind.

But now, she was glad that it was finally over. Perhaps, ending their relationship was really a blessing in disguise.

"My mother wants to see you, Doris!" Felix Mu soon reached them, panting to catch his breath. And with a pair of melancholic eyes, he stared at his former childhood friend.

"Why does she want to see me? Are you scheming against me again?" A hint of despair coated Doris' voice. Although it had been a long time, she could still clearly remember the tragedy that befell on her.

"No! Of course not! I know we were wrong, and my mother wants to apologize for that. But I'm afraid it's more complicated than what it seems. Can you please go to our house and talk with her?" Felix Mu pleaded and shortly glanced at Nancy, who stood beside Doris.

"I'm pregnant." Without hesitating, Doris revealed her situation, thinking that it was the right thing to say. Then, caressing her belly, she raised her voice and said, "I'm married and about to start my own family. For once, I'm finally living a peaceful life, so please leave me alone! I don't want to see you ever again!"

"I know, I don't have the right to ask you for anything, but you know my mother has always liked you. Doris. Please. I'm not asking you to do it for me, but for her." Evident in the man's eyes was a glint of anguish and pain. Even his begging tone exhibited the deep-seated regret he had been keeping all these years.

Seeing as how Felix Mu almost kneeled before her, Doris couldn't help wondering if she ever liked this man.

Sure, when she was a child, she definitely liked him.

In fact, she would often spend time in their house and play with him. Even his mother was very fond of her. And because of this, she and Felix Mu were well-known as childhood sweethearts in their small town. As a kid, Doris acted and dressed like a tomboy- much different from how other girls were raised. Felix Mu, on the other hand, was much more tender and effeminate than her.

The two were like each other's piece to a puzzle; they both complemented one another. In fact, whenever Doris acted around and caused trouble, Felix Mu would always apologize on her behalf. Even when they attended the same school, the two were so inseparable.

Everyone thought they would spend the rest of their lives glued to each other.

However, all of these changed one afternoon in autumn when both Doris and Felix Mu were in Junior High School.

After dismissal, Doris was on her way to see Felix Mu when she saw a group of students surrounding him.

Standing in the middle was a boy named Samuel Liang, and beside him was Felix Mu whose face bled with a fresh wound.

"Poor guy, how dare you hurt me, huh?! Do you know who I am? Bah!" Samuel Liang's voice thundered as he eyed the latter triumphantly.

Seeing this, Doris rushed towards the group and gave Samuel Liang a good beating. It was so violent and sudden that everyone was flabbergasted and stupefied to their feet.

Doris thought she did the right thing and saved her childhood friend, but she didn't expect what would happen two days later.

The rain had just drizzled, and when Doris came back home from school, she was welcomed by a group of people gathered outside the gate of their house.

And just after looking at them, it didn't take long for Doris to deduce that something terrible had happened.

She ran over to their house and pushed through the crowd only to be stunned at what graced her sight.

The gate of her family's villa had been sealed, and her father, Matt He, seemed to have aged twenty years overnight. He stood in despair, staring blankly in front of him. And although he felt like weeping, tears didn't roll down his cheeks.

"How dare you come back, Doris? This is all your fault! Why did you have to offend Samuel Liang? You ungrateful child! Look! How else are we going to live now?" Doris's step-mother, Gloria Zhang, cried, pounding and kicking her as if it would make her feel better.

"W-What happened?" Doris asked with a trembling voice, grabbing Gloria Zhang by her wrist.

"Our business is done! Our family is done! And it's all your fault! Why did you have to beat Samuel Liang? Because of you, we all will be done!" Gloria Zhang cried out and continued to pound the chest and shoulders of her stepdaughter. Then, as tears continued to flood her cheeks, she continued, "Your father's tea business-the one thing he worked hard for-is ruined because of you! The Liang family detained all the tea leaves at the dock, and now, they're accusing your father as a smuggler! That's impossible! Your father would never do such a thing! But no matter what we do and how much money we spend, the Liang family would not compromise! They said that unless you die, they will never leave our family alone!

You stupid girl! How could you cause such big trouble to our entire family?! Now, look at how helpless we are!"

At this point, Doris was numb all over. Saying that the news came as a shock to her would be an understatement. But at the same time, her body could not respond, and her mind went utterly blank. "What about that batch of other goods? Are they holding it too?" She managed to utter after coming back to her senses.

"You can exchange your life for it. If not, the tea leaves will be moldy within ten days in this rainy season. And if we don't get it by then, we'd have nothing but a pile of moldy leaves!" Gloria Zhang burst into another batch of tears that flooded her cheeks.

As Doris found it helpless to talk to her weeping stepmother, she turned her head to her father, Matt He, who stood in the courtyard, still blankly staring at nothing.

"Dad, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry," she uttered in sheer regret. At this point, the tears she had been repressing streamed down her face.

However, his father kept staring at nothing and repeated, "Doris, I'm done. Our family is done."

Suddenly, a voice blared from outside, "Go away! Move!" At this time, a group of people broke into their house.

Leading them was Myron Liang, a famous local landlord and Samuel Liang's father. He grabbed Matt He's collar and yelled ferociously, "How about you let your daughter pay with her life, or I'll destroy your entire family!"

"I'm done! Our family is done!" Except these words, it seemed that Matt He was not in the right mind to say anything else.

"It's useless to say that. Tell me, should I take you or your daughter away?" Myron Liang rolled up his sleeves in anger and punched Matt He hard on the head.

But even with the impact, the latter didn't react at all. It seemed that he had lost all his senses and had gone mad.

"Stop! How dare you hit my father?!" Doris tried to protect her father, but her thin and frail built could do nothing. So after Myron Liang pulled her away, she instantly fell flat on the ground.

"Oh? You're Doris, right? You don't want me to hurt your father? Ha-ha! I didn't expect you to feel sorry for him when you never apologized for hitting my son! So don't feel bad when I tell you I'm happy to see you in pain," the patriarch of the Liang family exclaimed in gritted teeth. Then, pushing Matt He, he commanded, "Take him away!" Soon, one of his subordinates dragged the poor man into the car.

"Don't take my father away! Please! It's all my fault. Take me instead!" Doris pleaded, tightly grabbing the hem of Myron Liang's pants in an attempt to stop the man. However, no matter how much she cried and begged, no one paid attention to her.

And helpless as she was, she could do nothing but watch those goons take her father away. As she looked at the receding car, Doris began to realize the gravity of the entire situation. However, she was merely a high school student who had no power and connection.

So, in her desperate attempt to save her father, she ran to Felix Mu's house, hoping that he could help her.

However, Felix Mu's father rushed out before she could even get inside and shouted, "Our family has nothing to do with your family. You are a bad influence on my son! From now on, you will stay away from Felix!"

After being treated like a beggar and having no one to turn to, Doris just stood alone in the rain for a whole day and night while her tears camouflaged with the raindrops. She didn't mind getting sick after. After all, her life seemed meaningless at this point.

The following day, Doris was taken away by the authorities. And just the like the day before, she could do nothing but helplessly let herself be dragged.

After an hour, she was taken to the court where she argued her case, still hoping that justice would prevail. "Samuel Liang was the one bullying Felix! I was just protecting my friend! Please believe me!" she begged the judge, while everyone in the room eyed her with so much disdain.

And while Doris tried to save herself, she didn't expect to see the last person she thought of sitting as a witness. Felix Mu, who bore his ghastly and expressionless eyes, glanced at her and uttered, "I saw it with my own eyes. It was Doris who beat Samuel Liang.

Because of this statement, Doris was locked up in jail, where she spent an entire year blankly staring at her cell's wall and wishing that her life would end.

Even on the day she was released, no trace of bliss could be found on her face; instead, it was painted with dread. She wandered the streets in a daze, thinking of how she could probably start her life again. After all that had happened, she could never go back to their home and village anymore. There was no place for her to go!

To make things worse, it suddenly started raining. And as the raindrops fell on her face, an eerie cold slowly wrapped herself.

Doris tightened her messy clothes, and the chill still penetrated her body from outside.
