Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 511
"Donnie muttered, 'Wasting food is a sin."
"Then you eat it," came the quick reply.
Donnie stood there for a moment, then tossed the leftover sandwich into the bin.
The next day, Chad received yet another packed lunch. This time, he walked over to the security booth at the entrance and said to the old guard inside, "If anyone brings me lunch again, just leave it at the door. If it's not picked up by the next day, toss it." The guard replied, "I thought you knew the girl, Officer Chad. She seemed to think you were friends."
Chad shook his head. "Don't know her. I threw away yesterday's meal."
As expected, on the third day, Vivian showed up again, believing she was engaged in a grand romantic gesture. But when she arrived, she found the previous day's lunch still sitting there, untouched.
Frowning, she asked the guard, "Who told you to do this?"
"It's common knowledge around here," he replied.
Vivian clenched her fists, her romantic dreams dashed. All her efforts seemed like a fool's errand.
"Tell Chad these lunches are from his sister," she said defiantly.
The guard held up a hand. "Don't go using Molly's name in vain. If she finds out someone's been sending her brother meals under her name, she'll have my head."
Everyone at the precinct knew of Molly's fiery temper.
With a huff, Vivian took the rejected lunches and stormed off. Rounding the corner, she angrily threw them in the trash.
Later, Jade popped by the station.
Vivian had made three days' worth of lunches, and she wasn't about to let her efforts go unnoticed. As dusk fell, she waited at the Byrne family home for Chad to finish his shift. That day, not only did she see Chad laden with shopping bags, but Molly was hooked on his arm as well.
As the siblings entered the Byrne living room, Vivian felt a pang of jealousy.
Coleen, spotting her son's haul, remarked, "Did my daughter sacrifice herself as a guinea pig for her company again today?"
"No, I'm just in a foul mood," Molly replied, spotting Vivian but making no attempt to interact as she whisked Chad upstairs, leaving no chance for Vivian to speak with him. Chad indulged Molly, following her without protest.
Vivian's eyes narrowed as she watched Molly's retreating figure. A cold realization dawned on her. What if Chad's affection for Molly wasn't just brotherly love?
And if Molly's dislike for her wasn't because of Juliana, but due to her possessiveness over Chad? Vivian knew they were not blood-related siblings.
She had thought Coleen might be her biggest obstacle, but now it seemed Molly was the real challenge.
Vivian's mind raced with schemes as she watched them ascend the stairs.
During dinner at the Byrne household, Molly learned about the lunches Vivian had been sending. Annoyed, she declared, "Brother, I'll bring you lunch tomorrow." Chad seemed unfazed, knowing his sister was likely to act out of jealousy. "Just make sure you eat enough so I don't have to worry about you," he said.
Molly scoffed and started pondering her culinary options.
Later in the evening, understanding his sister's nature, Chad reminded her, "Focus on your studies. Don't worry about feeding me. Your real goal is to pass your exams."
Molly's phone displayed 'Easy Recipes for Beginners.' She looked up at Chad, blinked innocently, and quietly turned off her phone.
Still unconvinced, Chad confiscated her phone before leaving.
In the dead of night, at her lodgings, Vivian glared at a man's white shirt on the bed. The dim light barely concealed the malice in her eyes.
"Everyone has the right to pursue happiness, right, Chad?" she whispered to herself.
The following day, Molly, buried in her studies, was unaware of Chad's plans. He left his phone on her desk after checking her progress the night before. He found notes on making scrambled eggs with tomatoes, spicy shredded potatoes, and the rice-to-water ratio for perfect steamed rice.
Chad couldn't help but smile at the clean laptop that was typically covered in dust.
Before leaving for work, he called out to the lump under the covers, "Molly, I'm out at a meeting today, not at the precinct."
Her muffled response was a half-asleep acknowledgment.
At noon, Jade showed up with takeout, admitting defeat in the kitchen after a short-lived attempt.
Vivian watched from the shadows as Molly carried the lunch to the precinct, her previous suspicions growing stronger. Molly returned soon after, grumbling about her wasted trip since Chad didn't inform her he wouldn't be there.
Vivian approached the girl about to hail a cab. "Molly, what a coincidence. I was looking for Chad. He left a shirt at my place." Molly eyed the seemingly innocent girl, Vivian's smile devoid of any malice, and wondered what game she was playing. Molly was silent, her gaze locked onto Vivian's eyes with an unblinking intensity that seemed to squeeze the air from the room.
Vivian braced herself for Molly's reaction; after all, the woman had a reputation for dominance. She knew that Molly had seen Chad's shirt at her place, and it wouldn't take much for her to jump to conclusions. If Molly thought for a second that Vivian had spent the night with Chad, her fiery temper would surely ignite a public spectacle. And Vivian didn't need a showdown under the watchful eyes of the police station's security cameras.
But as the seconds ticked by, Molly's response never came. Instead, Vivian found herself shrinking under Molly's penetrating stare, her own eyes flickering nervously. Her bravado faltered, and a wave of unease washed over her as she struggled to maintain her composure.
