Chapter 2462

A man's voice could be heard coming from the other end of the phone. "May I know if you are Miss Yvonne Yates?"

"You are?" Yvonne asked in a suspicious tone.

"The situation is like this, Miss Yates. I am calling from the prison. I can't reach your father on his phone because it's switched. This is why I am calling you," said the man on the other end of the phone after he eased up his tone.

"Oh, hello, sir. What can I...do for you?" Yvonne asked while testing the waters.

The man on the other end replied in a rather awkward tone. "That pickpocket, the man who said he is your father's illegitimate child, is facing some trouble right now. All of his bodily functions are very terrible. He is just a bag of bones. We have already checked his bloo and DNA. That man and your father indeed are not in the slightest bit related at all. Just to be fair, we have also visited the city that your father had lived in back then. We've checked the date that he had gotten married and also the date this man was born. Plenty of people in that city knew that your father and that woman had gotten married after they had only been together for a very short time. Also, the day they got married was only half a year earlier than the day this man was born. In other words, all the evidence from all direction: proved that this man is not your father's son. He and our father have nothing to do with each other at all." 1

When she heard that, Yvonne sneered. "Then why are you still looking for my father? since that man is a pickpocket, wouldn't all of this be over if you guys just bring him to justice?"

The man on the other end of the call was still very calm. "The trouble is that that man's body is failing in all aspects because he had taken substances that he shouldn't. I am just following the protocol and notifying your father. After all... they had once had a father-so relationship."

"What?" Yvonne did not expect that as well. "Do you mean...that man, he is...going to die soon?"

"Yes, it should be within these few days," said the policeman.

"I know. I will let my father know," Yvonne said calmly.

After she hung up the phone, she shrugged, and then told her father very understanding^, "Dad, I initially didn't want to tell you, but I don't wish to be so selfish. I feel I still have the obligation to tell you. That man, your adopted son, only has a few more days to live."

Vincent sighed. "He had been on those substances since childhood. He's also homeless now. It'd be strange if he could live long enough!"

He looked at Helena after taking a pause. "Helena..."

Before Vincent finished his words, Helena said in a very understanding manner, "Go ahead. You had raised him back then, after all. You had also truly treated him like your own biological child. He's already on his deathbed. Go and visit him. Just take it as...the care tha you'll be giving him before he passes away."

Vincent nodded. "Alright."

The Yates family was very open-minded. The following day after they had dinner together, Vincent and Helena were driven by Yvonne and Marcus to the hospital where the man was staying at. It was after they had arrived at the hospital that Yvonne understood the reaso that the policeman called her with his cell phone and not the landline.

It turned out that the man was already in the hospital, and he was in the intensive care unit. He indeed was already severely ill. It was after they had got into the ward that was as quiet as a haunted house and saw that man that Vincent truly learned how skinner the ma was. That man was not short. However, the man looked like he weighed less than fifty kilograms. He was wearing a hospital gown. The sleeves that were wrapping around his arms appeared to be empty. His forearms and hands were not covered and they truly looked jus like bones.

Even Yvonne, who was following behind her parents, was incomparably scared, she hid behind her mother and asked softly, "Mom, this is not my first time seeing a person who has been having those substances, but...why is he so thin? I often listen to ghost stories, but have never seen a ghost. However, I feel this man is absolutely uglier than a ghost. He is just like a skeleton, Mom!"

Helena pinched Yvonne's arm. "Cut it out! He might hear you."

The man on the bed looked like a skeleton, but he was not deaf. He strenuously lifted his head and looked at Yvonne with his widened and sunken eyes. "Have I scared you, my sister? Don't be afraid. I am your brother. I am your brother." 1

"W-Who are you calling your sister? I don't have a brother like you! Stop that nonsense!" Yvonne looked at the skeleton on the bed angrily.
