Chapter 50: Will you give me a chance?

Chloe POV

I couldn’t believe Tessa was actually here, it felt surreal. I was beyond grateful that the twins saved her and brought her to me. I don’t know why they were on Cameron’s territory, but it doesn’t even matter at this point, I’m just glad they were.

Tessa has lost so much weight since I last saw her, she looks frail and undernourished. Seeing the injuries on her face made me cringe. I can only imagine what she’s been through over the past two years.

We were waiting in Knox’s office for him and Jag to arrive, but they were still an hour out. I could tell Tessa was overwhelmed and probably had enough for one night.

“I’m taking Tessa up to my old room on the Alpha floor, she needs rest.” I told Jo.

“But Knox will want to meet her when he gets back.” Jo argued.

“He can wait till the morning, she needs to eat and get some rest.” I replied firmly and watched him sigh in defeat, before nodding his head.

I helped Tessa get up from the couch and started walking with her towards the door. I paused when I reached the twins.

“You have no idea how grateful I am for what you two did. I will forever be indebted to you for saving Tessa from that hellhole.” I said sincerely.

“You owe us nothing, Chloe. We wish we could have help more of them.” Parker admitted with a frustrated sigh.

“You guys are going to great Alphas. That pack will be lucky to have you.” I added and both thanked me.

I said goodnight to everyone, before helping Tessa out of the room. She was quiet while we walked and I could tell she had a lot on her mind.

Once we reached the room, I opened the door and helped her onto the bed.

“You hungry? I can have something brought up for you.” I offered.

“No thanks, I really don’t have an appetite right now.” She admitted with a small forced smile.

I nodded my head in understanding before sitting down on the bed next to her.

“I’m so sorry for leaving you there.” I blurted out and could stop the tears from flowing freely from my eyes.

“Don’t be, you did what anyone would have done in your shoes and I was proud of you for leaving that horrible place.” She replied with a reassuring smile.

“What happened after I left?” I asked hesitantly. I knew I wouldn’t like what she would tell me, but I needed to know.

“Cameron went berserk, he became completely obsessed with getting you back. He was livid that you were able to hide your wolf from him for so long. He even executed a bunch of his own warriors in a fit of rage.” She replied while shaking her head in disbelief.

“He knew we were close friends, so I immediately became his new punching bag.” She added and I could hear the bitterness in her voice, not towards me, but towards Cameron.

“I’m so sorry.” I replied barely above a whisper.

“Don’t be, you endured his torment for long enough. I’m glad you got away when you did.” She said firmly, before grabbing my hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.

“Did he ever…” I asked, but trailed off. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to hear the truth. Just the thought of him sexually assaulting her made my heart sink.

“No, he didn’t.” She replied quickly and I was thankful for that.

“He tried a couple times, but would get mad at me for not fight him off like you use to and eventually gave up.” She replied with a dry humourless chuckle.

“He’s crazy.” I whispered and saw her nod in agreement from the corner of my eye.

“You have no idea. You quickly became his forbidden fruit, the one he couldn’t have.” She replied and we both sat silently for a minute before she spoke again.

“I want to know about you. What happened after you left?” She asked.

“Well… After he killed my mom I completely lost it. She was the only family I had and I couldn’t cope with the loss. I retreated into a dark hole somewhere in my conscience and Tatiana took over. I basically lived in my wolf form for two years.” I explained and saw the pity in her eyes.

“I’m sorry about your mom.” She said sadly.

“Thank you. I wish I had gotten her out of there sooner, but she refused to leave. When she finally agreed it was too late.” I said with a heavy sigh. My mother’s death has always weighed heavy on my heart. There’s so many things I would have done differently back then, if I knew what was going to happen.

“It’s not your fault, you can’t blame yourself for what he did.” She said and I knew she was right, but it was still hard to accept.

“What about your second chance mate? Tell me about him.” She asked and I was grateful for the subject change.

“Well… He first met Tatiana and…Ummmm… She kinda tried to kill him.” I admitted sheepishly and watched her eyes widened in shocked before she snorted.

“No way! You tried to kill an Alpha? Your second chance mate?!” Now she was smiling in amusement and I couldn’t help but smile back at her. It was the first time since she arrived that she wasn’t sad, mad or scared.

“I told you it was Tatiana, not me.” I said defensively and we both laughed.

‘Hey! That wasn’t my fault and you know it.’ Tatiana argued in my head, but also chuckled at the memory.

‘You mean your teeth just happened to latch onto his neck by themselves?’ I teased.

‘I’d like to see how you would have handle him.’ She grumbled before retreating to the back of my mind with a huff.

“So how did you end up here then?” Tessa asked curiously.

“He was patient and annoyingly persistent.” I said with another chuckle.

“He would show up where Tatiana liked to hangout and didn’t take no for an answer. He once brought her a steak dinner and talked her ear off for hours.” I added.

“You mean he had dinner with your wolf? Like talked to her, without her being able to partake in the conversation?” She asked with her head tilted to the side curiously.

“Yup.” I replied, while making sure to pop the P.

“Omg, that’s hilarious. Then what happened?” She asked curiously and I noticed she looked highly entertained by my story.

“Then one day Cameron and his men showed up. They attacked Max and I and Cameron managed to drug me with wolfbane. We were lucky the twins showed up when they did or goddess knows what would have happened. Anyway, when Knox found out that I was in danger he brought me here. He’s worked hard to earn my trust and I have to admit he’s been amazing.” I explained.

“Wow… That’s so romantic. I can’t wait to meet him. Was that his office we were in earlier?” She asked curiously.

“Ya, why?” I replied.

“It smelled really good in there. I couldn’t stop sniffing the couch when no one was paying attention.” She admitted shyly, making me laugh.

“His couch eh? Weirdo.” I teased.

“I can’t believe I just admitted that out loud.” She replied while shaking her head in disbelief.

“It’s been a long night, I bet you’re just overwhelmed with all the changes.” I said and she nodded.

“How about I go grab some pyjamas for you to wear?” I offered.

“That would be great.” She replied with a soft smile.

“I’ll be right back, my room’s right next door.” I said before getting up from the bed and leaving the room.

Jagger POV

We were driving back from the meeting when Knox got a call from Jo. I guess the twins showed up at the gates with a female Omega from Cameron’s pack. Jo didn’t say much over the phone, but I’m sure we’ll hear all about it when we get back.

Knox was quiet the entire drive home, I knew he had a lot of his mind so I left him alone.

We finally pulled up in front of the pack house and I let out a relieved sigh. It always feels good getting home after a long day.

“Let’s go the my office, everyone should be waiting for us there.” Knox said, as we climbed out of the SUV.

“Can we make it quick? I’m f*****g tired.” I admitted.

“Ya buddy, I just want a report from the twins on what happened and meet the female they brought over from Cameron’s territory.” He replied.

We headed into the pack house and my wolf started getting agitated. I asked him what his deal was, but he didn’t reply. He huffed and continued to pace in my head. I figured he must have still been angry about the meeting.

As soon as we started walking down the hallway that led to Knox’s office, I was hit with a faint smell. It was both sweet and spicy with a hint of floral. Whatever it was, I wanted to find the source of it.

I started walking faster and the closer I got to the office, the strong it was.

“You alright, Jag?” Knox asked.

“Ya, I smell something.” I replied and could hear him inhaling behind me, trying to pickup what I was smelling.

I reached the office door in no time and quickly flung it open. My heart was racing and now my wolf was really acting up. The smell was much stronger in the office.

Jo was sitting behind the desk, while Max was on the couch with one of the twins and the other twin was sitting across from Jo, next to a nerdy looking guy that I didn’t recognize.

“You ok, Jag?” Jo asked sounding concerned. I didn’t answer him though, my focus was elsewhere. I had to find the source of that intoxicating scent.

I quickly stepped back into the hall and started to follow it. It was leading me towards the stairs.

“Jag, where you going?” I vaguely heard Knox ask, but I ignored him and pushed forward.

I could hear footsteps behind me and knew that Knox and Jo were likely following.

I reached the Alpha floor and frowned. Why would that scent lead me here? I wondered.

I stopped in front of a bedroom, the one directly next door to Knox’s room. None of this made any sense to me, but it didn’t matter, I needed to find the source of the scent.

I didn’t bother knocking and shoved the door open.

“What the hell are you doing?” I heard Knox asked as he came up next to me.

I ignored his question and stepped into the room, as soon as I did, I froze at the sight in front of me. The most gorgeous woman I’ve ever laid eyes on stood next to the bed. She had long wavy brown hair, with big hazel doe eyes. She was maybe 5’4 and very thin. I frowned at how underweight she looked, but it didn’t even matter, she was still perfect.

It didn’t take long before my wolf said the one word I’ve been waiting years to hear.

‘MATE’ He growled in my head.

“Mate?!” I repeated the word out loud, but it came out more like a question. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

‘Mine! Mate! Claim!’ My wolf roared in my head.

Chloe came barging into the room and ran over to my mate. Knox and Jo also came in and stood beside me.

That’s when the realization hit me, I had finally found my mate. My body immediately tensed and instinctively put my hands up in surrender.

‘Is she really your mate?‘ Knox asked through the mind-link.

‘Ya, she is.’ I replied sounding like a love sick pup and was unable to take my eyes off the beautiful woman standing across from me. She hadn’t moved or said a thing since I had entered the room.

‘Then what the f**k are you doing with your hands?’ He asked and I glanced over to see the confused look on his face.

‘Remember? You and Jo told me to be ready, that when I met my mate she might try to kill me. I was surrendering before she did.’ I replied.

‘Dude, you really need to learn how to read woman better, put your damn hands down. Look at her, she looks like she either going to pass out or cry, not kill you.’ Knox blurted out and his words kinda made me feel stupid. It was true, my mate definitely wasn’t a threat. I was silently cursing Jo and Knox for making me paranoid.

I quickly relaxed and lowered my hands. A minute later I got another mind-link from Knox.

‘Ummm… Jag?’ He asked.

‘What?’ I replied.

‘You think you might talk to her at some point?’ He ask sounding almost amused.

s**t! f**k! I’m such an i***t. I’ve been waiting 5 years to find this woman and I’m standing in front of her like a total knob, completely mute.

“Sorry about that, I hope I didn’t scare you.” I said softly, while taking slow steps towards her.

“W-Why were you so t-tense when you saw me?” She asked softly and her voice was the most alluring sound I had ever heard. I just wanted her to keep talking.

“It was a misunderstanding, I really am sorry.” I replied nervously, hoping I hadn’t f****d everything up.

“Are you going to reject me?” She asked and I saw her bottom l*p quiver.

“No. Why would I do that?” I growled unintentionally and watched her flinch away.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to growl. It’s just, I’ve been waiting 5 years to find you. I would never think of rejecting my mate, the thought alone is upsetting to me.” I admitted and saw her eyebrows furrow in confusion.

“But I’m only an Omega.” She confessed.

“I don’t care about your rank, you could be human for all I care. The moon goddess made you specifically for me and me for you.” I replied and I could tell she was thinking over my words.

“Will you give me a chance? Let me prove that I can be a worthy mate. I promise to love and protect you till the day I die.” I pleaded and took her small hand in mine.

As soon as our skin touched, I felt a static sensation run up my arm. I knew she had also felt it, since her eyes widened in surprise and she quickly pulled her hand away, before looked down at the ground.

“I’ll never be good enough.” She said in such a low voice, I barely heard her.

“Please don’t ever say that again. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on and everything I envision in a mate. I promise, if anyone should be worried that they aren’t good enough, it’s me.” I replied truthfully and watched her eyes shoot up to meet mine.

Everything had happened so fast, that I failed to notice the injuries on her face. Her l*p was busted and she had a black eye. I reached up to touch her l*p, but she instinctively closed her eyes and became tense. I held back a growl when I realized that someone had hurt her.

“Who did this.” I asked, trying to keep my voice calm for my mates benefit.

“Cameron‘s Gamma, but the twins took care of him. He’s dead.” Chloe answered for my mate.

I needed to thank the twins the next time I saw them, they not only saved my mate, but they also brought her to me.

“What’s your name, my love?” I asked softly.

“Tessa.” She replied shyly.

“Tessa.” I repeated, loving how her name sounded coming from my lips.

“I’m the Beta of this pack, my names Jagger, but please call me Jag.” I added and she smiled. That alone nearly melted my heart, I hope I can put many more smiles on her face.

I’m already deeply in love with this woman and I only met her 15 minutes ago. If only she knew how much she already had me wrapped around her little finger.
