It was baffling, but in this lifetime, Nichole had somehow decided against pursuing further studies abroad, opting instead to stay at Eastwood College for her graduate studies.

Had Nichole chosen to go abroad, she would have had a plethora of paths to choose from, not to mention a broader perspective.

Now, having lost James, it was as if she had lost access to a significant portion of the finance market. None of the companies under James' banner would consider hiring Nichole.

"She'll never make it big." Sophie said indifferently. "Let her struggle in the mud of Devonport. Soon enough, she'll realize that without James, she's nothing."

The finance circle was notoriously difficult to penetrate.

Initially, Sophie hadn't planned on dealing with Nichole, but after Nichole used a car accident to smear her and Jenna, and caused a scandal at the college and at Palm's Jewels. Ignoring the situation would make Sophie seem too soft and easily bullied.

At that moment, Sophie's phone rang. The caller ID showed it was Bea.

Bea hadn't been in touch much lately, probably thinking that Sophie and James' relationship was stable. This call out of the blue was unlikely to bear good news.

Sophie answered, and Bea's tone was colder than before. "Sophie, James' company is in trouble. Are you aware?"

Sophie raised an eyebrow.

So that was it. She knew Bea wouldn't make a move unless it concerned James.

Sophie replied with a smile, "It seems there was such an incident."

Bea sounded quite displeased. "Seems? Sophie, you're Mrs. Burke, James' wife! How can you be so indifferent when your husband is in trouble?"

Sophie patiently responded, "James and I haven't been seeing much of each other lately, and he hasn't mentioned anything about the company to me, so I'm not very clear on the details."

There was silence on the other end for a while, then Bea said sternly, "Come home tonight. I need to talk to you."

Before Sophie could respond, Bea hung up. It seemed Bea was dissatisfied with Sophie's role as James' wife.

"Ms. Sophie..." Tricia hesitated, looking at Sophie.

Sophie said, "It's okay, I'll just go back today."

"What if the Burke family becomes suspicious? Isn't this visit back home very risky?"

Tricia was genuinely concerned. After all, she was initially under Colby's command, appointed for the sole purpose of ensuring Sophie's safety. If the Burke family were to discover Sophie's true identity, they would never let her off easily.

"If they truly become suspicious of me, I wouldn't be able to sit here safely."

Sophie was well aware of James' methods. In her past life, James had gone to great lengths to marry Nichole. The tactics he used to bring down the Russell family were something Sophie intended to also use as her payback to James.
