Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 172
Adam looked at Leroy in puzzlement. Wasn't this guy a pawn of the Camdens? When did he become the President of the Chamber of Commerce?
Leroy said with a sneer, "Yes, I'm now the President of Lisle's Chamber of Commerce. Do you have a problem with that?"
Adam's frown deepened. He was gone for only two hours, and the Chamber of Commerce had elected a new president.
I wonder if this guy caused trouble for Katie after becoming the President of the Chamber of Commerce... After thinking of this possibility, Adam asked, "Did you trouble my wife?"
Feeling Adam's murderous gaze, Leroy could not help but tremble. However, he quickly regained control of his emotions and said in a mocking tone, "Now, now. She's the one who wanted to leave the Chamber of Commerce and create a new one. Don't throw the blame at me now."
Adam narrowed his eyes. "You better hope that her decision had nothing to do with you." He then remembered why Leroy had come here. "Also, the Ultimate Fighting Championship already has a sponsor. Don't waste your time and leave."
Leroy frowned and said, "Why should I heed to you? Who do you think you are, the organizer of the Ultimate Fighting Championship? You and your wife have the same problem; you always forget your place. Before people with real power, you're nothing!" Adam sneered. "Actually, you have guessed it right. I'm one of the organizers of Ultimate Fighting Championship."
Leroy burst out laughing. "Is something as insignificant as your Hartley Group even capable of that?"
Adam shook his head and no longer argued with him. He turned to Fannie and said, "You should tell this guy how things stand so that he can return to planet Earth."
Fannie rolled her eyes and griped, "You can tell him yourself!" Then, she said impatiently, "I'm sorry, but our Ultimate Fighting Championship already has a sponsor. We don't need another one."
Leroy frowned and said coldly, "Which company is it? I'll tell them to cancel the sponsorship. Our Chamber of Commerce is the one that will sponsor your Ultimate Fighting Championship."
Fannie rolled her eyes again. "You're really stubborn. All right, the company sponsoring our tournament is Hartley Group, and you can ask their spokesperson here if they want to cancel their sponsorship." Leroy was stunned, and he stared at Adam in disbelief.
Adam said with a sneer, "As I said, I'm one of the organizers of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and Hartley Group is going to sponsor the tournament. Do you have a problem with that?" "No, I won't accept this!" Leroy bellowed.
Adam clapped back, "It's none of your business who Hartley Group decides to sponsor."
Leroy's face flushed. He looked at Fannie and said, "Are you the one in charge here? You better reject Hartley Group's sponsorship or you'll be making an enemy of our Chamber of Commerce."
Fannie did not hide the disdain in her voice and said, "Our Ultimate Fighting Championship has no relationship whatsoever with your Chamber of Commerce. So what if you become our enemy? What's supposed to happen?"
Leroy's face fell, and he said in a threatening tone, "You should consider this matter carefully before giving me a definite answer. There's nothing for you to gain by opposing our Chamber of Commerce. As for the disadvantages, there are too many to count. Also, you should keep in mind that the Camdens are backing our Chamber of Commerce."
A smug expression appeared on Leroy's face when he mentioned the Camdens. He reckoned the organizers of the Ultimate Fighting Championship would back down once they heard that the Camdens were involved.
However, Fannie's expression did not change in the slightest. She asked, "Are the Camdens supposed to be scary? Do you know who's the backer of our Ultimate Fighting Championship?"
Leroy's expression changed, and he started wondering if the backer of the Ultimate Fighting Championship was more powerful than the Camdens.
"Who's your backer?" he asked eventually.
Fannie pointed at Adam and said, "It's him."
Leroy looked at Adam with a dumbfounded expression before bursting out into laughter. "Is this a joke? Is this guy your backer? A live-in son-in-law? Is that why you want Hartley Group to sponsor you? However, you should know that Hartley Group is like an insect before the Camdens. The difference between them is so vast that you can't even compare them."
Fannie nodded. "I can see that."
Leroy smiled smugly. "It's good that you know. You just have to do as I say, and I can assure you there won't be any problems. But if you go against us, you won't like what will happen. We'll do everything in our power to stop your Ultimate Fighting Championship from taking place!"
Fannie sighed and shouted, "Owen!"
Owen, who was training the security guards in the backyard, came over.
"Lady Fannie, what's the matter?"
Fannie pointed at Leroy and said, "Throw this idiot out. He's ruining my mood. Talking to him has lowered my IQ."
Owen walked up to Leroy and said with a deadpan face, "Please, leave this place at once."
Leroy was stunned. "Do you know who I am? You're looking for trouble by antagonizing us! If you don't believe me, I can make a call right now and let you witness the power of our Chamber of Commerce."
At this moment, another man entered the building and said with a smile, "Ms. Andrews, we meet again."
Fannie raised her eyebrows and said, "Mr. Ross, why are you here?"
Mr. Ross explained, "I'm also a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Since we're already collaborating, I hope Ms. Andrews will reconsider her decision and give the Chamber of Commerce a chance. After all, Hartley Group is just a small company, and they're not suited to sponsor a big event like your Ultimate Fighting Championship." Fannie understood what he was implying, so she said, "What if I refuse?"
Mr. Ross smiled. "Ms. Andrews, it's better if you don't reject our offer as we might have to put an end to our current collaboration. Moreover, not a single company in Lisle will be willing to do business with you in the future. And when that happens, you might have to give up on the tournament as you would have no way to hold it."
Fannie frowned and asked, "Are you saying that you'll go back on your word?"
Mr. Ross said with a smile, "Ms. Andrews, I'm doing this for your own good."
Leroy laughed. "This is the power of our Chamber of Commerce. You just witnessed what will happen if you refuse our offer. And we have plenty of other ways to ruin your tournament if we want to.
"I'll give you one last chance, and you better not waste it. Our Chamber of Commerce will be your only sponsor, and you'll cut off every relationship you have with Hartley Group. Moreover, you'll have to listen to us if we want to change other things about the Ultimate Fighting Championship."
Fannie shrugged and said indifferently, "Okay, you win."
Leroy smiled, satisfied. "It's good that you know your pla-"
Before he could finish, Fannie added, "Owen, teach them what the consequences for reneging on a promise are."
Owen unsheathed his sword, pointing the cold blade at Mr. Ross' neck.
"I hate people that renege on their promises. I'll give you an opportunity to make amends, don't waste it."
