My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 483
I lowered my voice and asked, "lan, where are you? I plan to go back to Ucrebury in the next two days. Do you want to tag along? Shall we celebrate the New Year together in Ucrebury?"
After a moment of silence, he responded, "I might not be able to. We're still in Mesville, and the weather here is cold. It's also not good for the child to travel back and forth. Let's wait for after the New Year, and when the weather is good, we'll go back to look for you."
I looked at the man not far away as he lied, and I couldn't shake the discomfort from my heart. Why would he deceive me?
If I hadn't seen them with my own eyes, I would have kept thinking they were in Mesville.
Suppressing the discomfort in my heart, I questioned, "Where's Monique? Has she been well?"
I looked at him and Sawyer. After a moment of silence, he finally replied, "She's at home, and I'm out. Uh, I have something to do now. I'm hanging up."
Before I could say another word, the call ended.
I was in a daze for quite a while, looking at the back of him and Sawyer, who were talking as they pushed the child away.
If it weren't for Kelsey tugging on me, I would have rushed up and asked him why he lied to me.
It took a long time for me to calm down. When I did, I took a deep breath and said, "What did you find out? Just give it to me straight."
At this point, I could pretty much accept anything. My child was gone, Hendrix and I were on such bad terms, and things weren't going well with Andrea either. Honestly, this wasn't as bad as it seemed either.
She looked at me, pursed her lips, and said, "You'd better call Mr. Robert's back first. There are hundreds of missed calls. He must be really worried about you!"
I was a little annoyed. I glanced at my phone, and Hendrix was calling again. If I picked up the call in a situation like this, we would probably get into a fight.
I locked the screen and looked at Kelsey. "Is the place where you live far from here?"
She shrugged her shoulders and told me, "It's just nearby. I initially planned to go back to my hometown to celebrate the New Year. How about this, I'll take you somewhere tomorrow, and then I'll go back after you're done with your business. I heard that the Reid family in Jarold City is still waiting to get you into the family registry. You'll probably have a lot of things to do after this."
I wasn't a person who liked to get to the bottom of things. Seeing that she already had it all planned out, I just let things be. Since Hendrix wouldn't stop calling, I just casually told her, "I'll go back first then. See you tomorrow!"
She nodded, took the car key from her bag, and said, "I'll pick you up tomorrow!"
"Okay!"
After bidding her goodbye, I went straight back to the Bronzy Residence. After being stuck in squabbles for the entire day, I didn't have the energy to go to the villa community in Flora Hill.
No one was there anyway. If I were to live there alone, things would be uncomfortably empty.
When I got home, Hendrix called again. I answered the phone and greeted nonchalantly, "What's the matter?"
"Arianna, where are you?" It was Austin.
This caught me off guard for a moment before I asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"Arianna, come to Hansburg and pick Hendrix up. He's been drinking a lot, Josiah and I can't stop him. Why don't you come over, and take him home?"
It was a bit noisy on the other side. Judging from the sound, they were probably in a bar.
I pursed my lips slightly then said into the phone, "Just wait for him to drink himself into a daze, then send him back. I'm not at home, so I can't go!"
"No, Arianna, you must not be aware of Hendrix's alcohol tolerance. If he doesn't want to get drunk, he can drink all the way till dawn. It's harmful to his health. Josiah and I can't persuade him to stop. If he keeps drinking like this, Josiah and I can't afford to take responsibility if something were to happen!"
