My Mate Is An Omega
Chapter 47

Lancaster

POV

The day we had been anxiously waiting for had finally come.

As soon as my Delta informed me that our guests had crossed the borders to our territory, my ranked members and I gathered in front of the pack house to welcome them. Since this was a very important event, I decided to wear a light blue button-up shirt under my new beige suit. It matched my mate's overcoat, pretty much the only piece she had kept from Ninebark as it had been a gift from her mother. She had a beautiful, formal white dress underneath it, which made her look exactly like the respectable Luna she was. I stiffened as I watched the limousine we had sent to get our guests pull over at the town square. My heart was pounding in my chest; this would only be my second meeting with another Alpha, and I couldn't help but feel nervous. Although the first one was just as stressful, this time I also had to worry about being a great host. A warm hand wrapped around mine, pulling me away from my insecurities. When I turned my head to the side, my eyes immediately landed on Caitlyn, who showed me a smile that said "you'll do great." As usual, it was enough to calm me down.

The driver hopped out of the car to open the door for the five passengers. The first one to climb out was a porcelain-skinned woman with shoulder-length jet-black wavy hair. She wasn't particularly tall, but had an athletic build and a posture that demanded respect - she was definitely Alpha Marcelline. Right after her came a peculiar man wearing a light gray suit and a navy blue tie. He had silver eyes that were bright as diamonds, and platinum hair styled in a side quiff. A real silver fox, one of the last of his kind - Lune Fintan.

After them came a ginger man who seemed to be slightly younger than them, probably no older than twenty-five. Judging by his muscular and tall build, I assumed he was Beta Beau; the fact that he was unaccompanied likely meant he hadn't found his mate yet. The third-in-command jumped out next. He had messy onyx hair and short boxed beard, but the most unique detail about him were his different-colored eyes - one was hazel, while the other one was blue. Gamma Milo stretched his hand out to his mate, Gamma Bianca. Her body was shaped like a warrior's, but she still had a feminine figure. She had gleaming bronze hair, which was the same color of her eyes.

Just by looking at them, I could understand how powerful Mariners Moon was.

"Welcome to Diamond Tempest, Alpha Marcelline. Lune Fintan." I nodded at the two leaders before greeting the other ranked members. "How was the flight?"

"Not too tiring." The woman's bluish-green eyes pierced through me as she shook my hand. "Thank you for having us."

"It's an honor," I replied sincerely before pulling my mate closer to me by her waist. "This is my Luna, Caitlyn." I flashed her a smile before waving my hand towards the rest of my friends. "Our Betas, Luke and Megan. Our Gamma, Jasper. And last but definitely not least, our Delta, Sasha."

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Alpha Marcelline nodded politely at them.

"I'm sure you would like to get settled before we talk," I observed. "When you're ready, my Beta will take you to my office."

"Please, allow me to lead you to your rooms." My best friend bowed his head respectfully at our guests before walking them inside.

Soon after, Caitlyn and I headed upstairs towards my office to make sure everything was ready. Sasha had rearranged the room to make sure there would be enough space for everyone; since meetings usually happened between two Alpha couples and two Beta couples, there's usually no need for so many extra seats. However, since this was not an official meeting, but rather an informal talk, we decided it would be best for every single one of our ranked members to be present.

Now, there were eleven chairs organized around a round table in the center. My mate helped me separate enough glasses, as well as a coffee carafe and a brand new expensive whiskey bottle. Sasha arrived not too long after, carrying a tray with various kinds of bread and cheeses. Jasper followed right behind her. Around an hour later, our guests joined us, led by our Beta couple. By the time we all took our seats, I could feel my anxiety rising again, but I quickly pushed it back. "Alright, Alpha Lancaster," Marcelline started, leaning back against her chair. "You said you had a few questions. Ask away."

I exchanged looks with my friends before turning back to her. "Well, I guess there's something we've all been really curious about. As you might know, the werewolf laws in Canada are quite... strict, especially when it comes to females occupying powerful positions." "Oh, I know." She frowned. It seemed like she had some past history regarding the subject, but I felt it would be too intrusive to ask her about it.

"How did you manage to become an Alpha?" I finally asked.

"It's kind of a long story. You see, in the United States, it's also quite uncommon for a female to become a leader, but there are no laws that forbid it," she clarified. "Actually, it is stated that in the rare cases where an Alpha has no male heirs, he might choose to pass his pack on to one of his daughters. Since my two older sisters had no interest in inheriting Mariners Moon, the duty fell upon me."

"She-wolves are also allowed to start their own packs," Gamma Bianca added. "My former Alpha is also a female. In fact, our entire pack only had women in the three highest-ranking positions. I used to be her Gamma before I moved out." She smiled sweetly at her mate, who placed a kiss in the back of her hand.

"A Gamma?!" Sasha's eyes widened, the shadow of a smile playing in her face. Bianca just nodded in response.

"Although our laws allow us to legally take on important titles, they don't prevent us from being harassed for it." The way the Alpha rolled her eyes expressed just how much she had gone through. "I had to turn down dozens of marriage proposals from entitled leaders. Some were... more insistent than others." She furrowed her brows. "And the dirty looks don't come just from outsiders. I had to work hard to gain my own pack's trust. While male heirs are born with everyone's respect, we have to fight for it." "I'm sorry. That sounds quite exhausting," I replied sincerely.

"It was, in the beginning. Thankfully, winning The Ultimate War seems to have helped spread the word that I wasn't to be messed with." A small, proud smile lit up her face. I didn't know females could be so intimidating.

"Oh, that's actually another thing we would like to know," my Luna chimed in. "As my mate mentioned over the phone, we are being targeted by a group of bear shifters - possibly a sleuth. Since no other wolf packs want to start a conflict with bears, we have recently considered organizing an union with other shifters who are facing the same problem," she explained briefly. "However, we are afraid of how our pack members might react to the idea, considering we are already suffering because of another species." "I would say it depends on how much your pack trusts you as leaders," Marcelline answered honestly. I looked away for a second, lost in thought; if Dario was still Alpha, Diamond Tempest would certainly support his decision. But would it be the same if I were the one to make it? "When I first brought Fintan to our home, it was quite... complicated."

"Let's say our Gamma almost killed me," the Lune added with a silly smile on his face, causing Milo to choke on his whiskey. "It took a while for the pack members to become accustomed to my presence, that's for sure. Mostly because they feared my ability to produce silver. For the first few weeks, I avoided leaving the Alpha suite when Marcy wasn't around, and even when she was, everyone was always throwing dirty looks at me."

"But they accepted you," the Alpha stated, placing her hand over her mate's before turning back to us. "He was first referred to as Lune by one of our Omegas, and when the war knocked on our door, the pack decided to protect him willingly. Wolves can be stubborn, but they are extremely loyal once you prove your worth."

"Basically, it might be easier to get your warriors used to the idea of fighting beside other species of shifters if you allow some of them to move into your territory," Gamma Milo simplified. "By living together, they will eventually realize werefoxes and werecats won't threaten their peace like the bears did."

"I see. Thank you for the advice." I nodded at the onyx-haired man, who returned the gesture.

"Now, regarding your idea, I think it's a great plan," Marcelline recognized, smiling at my mate. "Unions between wolves and other shifters aren't usual, which means enemies rarely know how to fight them. Werecats are just as large as wolves, and even more powerful, but they are often underestimated because their clans aren't nearly as large as our usual packs. It's even worse when it comes to foxes, because they are much smaller than us." She exchanged looks with her mate briefly before turning her attention back to us. "Every shifter has an unique combat style, which is something you should take advantage of. If you manage to form alliances with skulks and clans, you will be able to create a much more solid fighting strategy."

"Interesting," my Beta thought out loud. "Lune Fintan, if it wouldn't cause you too much trouble, would you care to demonstrate how exactly a fox fights once we're done here?"

"Sure," he replied promptly. "It's been a while since I last fought a wolf, but I guess having a little bit of action will be fun. You won't mind refreshing my memory if needed, right, Beau?"

"Of course, Lune." His second-in-command nodded respectfully.

We continued talking for another hour. Having Mariners Moon's insight was truly helpful; not only did Marcy and Finn have a lot more experience as leaders than us, they also had a vast knowledge regarding different species of shifters. They didn't hesitate to answer each of our many questions, as well as give us good advice on how to handle the whole situation, despite us not having much to offer in return.

Sasha also seemed inspired by Gamma Bianca's story; they talked a little more about females having important titles, and even studied our laws to see if they could find a loophole. Although I loved having her as my Delta, I knew she was meant to be more, and I would be happy if she somehow managed to achieve her goals.

As soon as we had solved all of our doubts, we headed together to an open area close to the town square so Lune Fintan could demonstrate his technique. Honestly, I was quite excited to see it, especially because I had never seen a fox shifter in action. The platinum-haired man and my Beta positioned themselves in front of each other while the rest of us gathered around them to watch.

"You promise you won't really bite me, right?" It was the first time in my life I could actually notice a glimpse of fear in my best friend's eyes. I had to fight back my laughter.

"It's always our main concern, isn't it?" Gamma Milo chuckled.

"Don't worry, silver foxes only spit venom willingly. Even if I bite you, I don't have to poison you." Fintan smiled mischievously, already having too much fun with this little demonstration. "I will try my best to keep my fangs away from you though." He winked playfully before assuming an attacking stance. "Alright, whenever you're ready."

Luke hesitated, but eventually took a deep breath and gave his wolf control. King stood tall over the grass of the makeshift battlefield, eyeing his opponent with caution. The Lune soon followed his lead, but instead of destroying his clothes during the transformation, his counterpart simply walked out of them. It made sense, considering supernatural foxes were smaller than humans, basically the size of a normal fox.

The most peculiar detail about the creature, however, wasn't its piercing diamond eyes or its silvery coat, but the fact it was actually a female - like they had previously explained, fox shifters didn't necessarily have same-gender counterparts, like wolves did. Surprisingly enough, Marcy's beast was a male. Not only was she a rare female Alpha, but also one of the only known people in all of werewolf history to have an opposite-gender animal spirit. It only further proved how her and her mate had truly been destined to be together.

The fox and the wolf circled each other for a few seconds, studying their opponents. At first, the gigantic size difference between them made it seem like the fight was really unfair. However, like the Alpha suggested, we were surprised to witness the Lune's counterpart in action. Foxes were naturally quicker so they could run from their predators, yet it was still impressive how fast the silvery creature dodged King's fangs, immediately digging her claws into his skin to latch onto his neck. The big white wolf stiffened, certainly scared about getting a silver injection on his jugular, but the fox let go before causing him any real harm.

"Amazing," I whispered in awe. This showed how werefoxes had managed to survive bear attacks for so long despite being twenty times smaller.

As the two men started to shift back, my Gamma approached the silver fox to offer him a gray robe, while the Beta Female helped her mate cover his body in a similar piece of cloth.

"Combat tactics vary from skulk to skulk. This is a specific technique Beta Beau taught me so I could properly defend myself from other wolves," Fintan clarified. "But I guess it's enough to show how every shifter has a unique way of fighting. Like my Gamma said earlier, you just have to figure out how to take advantage of it."

"Indeed. Thank you for your demonstration, Lune Fintan." I nodded at him.

"It's my pleasure." He waved me off.

"Well, it's still quite early," my mate pointed out, taking a step closer. "We would love to take you on a tour across our territory before dinner."

At the exact moment she finished her sentence, the fox shifter's phone rang. He pulled it out of the pocket of his pants, which had been lying on the ground since he let his counterpart out. He took a quick look at the screen to identify the caller before turning back

to us.

"That would be nice. Just let me get changed," he finally replied, glancing at his mate over his shoulder. "I'll be right back." As he stepped away, I could hear him answer the call. "How's my Zilly doing? You taking good care of our pack while mommy and daddy are out?"

My attention was pulled back to the group when I felt Caitlyn intertwine our fingers.

"Thank you so much for your help so far, Alpha Marcelline." She nodded respectfully at the other woman. "We haven't been leading Diamond Tempest for long, and as you might have noticed, the odds aren't exactly in our favor."

"It's not a problem at all," the leader reassured us both. "I had a pretty rough start as an Alpha. If I can make it easier for someone else, I gladly will. Plus, the problem you're facing is the same one some of my allies have been dealing with. By helping you, I'm also helping them," she explained. "Either way, I'm sure you will be fine. Regardless of who you were before, the Goddess has determined this is exactly where you should be, and my father has taught me she makes no mistakes."

Hearing those words from such a powerful Alpha was the confidence boost we both needed to keep overcoming the obstacles life constantly threw at us. I exchanged glances with my Luna, squeezing her hand tighter. Whether Dario had always planned to make me his heir or not, of one thing I was sure - I would not be here today if it weren't for her.
