My Heart only Beats for You (Natalie Godfrey) -
Chapter 2391
Ruth continued to sway back and forth.
Each time she swayed, it was as if a sharp blade had pierced her heart ruthlessly.
And with each stab, fresh blood would instantly gush out.
Under the soothing motions, the child's outright wailing tapered down to sniffles before he gradually dropped off to sleep.
As her child slept, Ruth's eyes were covered with a misty sheen.
She was so glad that he was still in his infancy.
At this stage, he wouldn't yet know the feeling of grief.
He would still go to sleep peacefully after a short period of sadness.
Unlike her, for after they parted, she was afraid that she would have to suffer this heart-wrenching pain forever until the day she died!
Ruth carried the child into the bedroom.
She put him on the bed and then sat down next to him, her eyes never leaving his sleeping face.
She gazed at him in all earnesty, so much so that she didn't even blink.
Time slowly ticked by.
Madam Quartley began to grow somewhat impatient from waiting.
She was about to let the servants urge Ruth to hurry up only for Rorita to persuade her from it.
"Madam Quartley, I'm afraid they won't be able to see each other again after this. Let them spend more time together." she beseeched softly.
When she recalled Ruth's tear- soaked face, Madam Quartley's heart wavered. She gave in and forced herself to endure it.
Just like that, they waited there for several hours until even the sky grew dark.
No matter how unbearable it was to Madam Quartley, she knew that the child needed to be brought away.
The bedroom door was pushed open.
A servant then appeared within the threshold, "Miss Welmert, Madam Quartley is waiting outside."
Ruth's body swayed.
She wiped her eyes and nodded. "You go out first.
Tell her that I'll be out right away."
After the servant left, Ruth glanced towards the bed again.
The child was still fast asleep.
It was probably because he had sensed that something was amiss. This child was also unwilling to face the immense pain their parting would bring, which was why his sleep cycle this time around was much longer than usual. Ruth reached out and touched the child's soft face. "My precious baby, you are going to leave soon," She murmured. "We may not even be able to see each other again. Mummy will miss you, forever and always."
"Once Mummy leaves, you must live
your life well and happily. You will have Rorita as your mother, and Quartley Palace behind your back. in the future, this life of yours would be filled with endless opportunities. My dear child, though Mummy will miss you, you have to forget me, Strike me away forever from your memories that you had such a mother."
"Your mother's status is low. If you follow me, what awaits you is
suffering and exhaustion. That's why returning to the Quartley Palace is the best road to take. That's why. Mummy has to give you up to them. Please forgive me for taking Such great pains, I just want what's best for you and let you be happy."
"My precious child, I don't want you to be another me; where you'll be as lowly as dirt for the rest of your life and be trampled upon by others." After she said her piece, Ruth sniffled.
Her eyes were red, but no tears fell from it.
Ruth stood up then and took out a notebook from her drawer. She took one last look at the child, before she resolutely walked out of the bedroom.
"Mrs. Quartley recorded inside this book are information regarding the child's various little quirks in his daily life. Please keep it and read through it whenever you're free. You have done me a great kindness, I will bear this in mind and never will Kforget it."
Rorita accepted the notebook from Ruth's hand.
When she flipped it open and thumbed through it, a series of beautiful handwriting filled up every inch of its pages.
From what time he would drink his milk, to how many times he woke up at night, even down to how many times he should drink his water; all of it was meticulously written down. The thick maternal love in each and every letter
seemed to leap out from the pages.
Rorita felt utterly moved.
Therefore, she and Ruth made a vow to each other.
