My Coldhearted Ex demands a Remarriage -
Chapter 303
Carrie was about to ask Sandra something, but her words caught in her throat when she noticed Elijah still lingering nearby.
She clamped her lips shut, swallowing her thoughts.
When it came to anything involving Sandra, Elijah was as partial as the sun favoring one side of the mountain.
If she dared to dig for clues, he would likely bury any evidence that could expose Sandras wrongdoings.
Elizabeth knew that if Elijah got involved, her search for proof would be as futile as trying to catch the wind in her hands.
Her mind whirred, calculating her next move, before she pulled out her phone to brainstorm a fresh story idea.
As Katrina, the screenwriter, it felt like centuries since she had last penned a script.
Just as she was crafting the protagonists traits, the car rolled to a halt.
Before she had a chance to look up, Sandra swiveled around, her voice loud and full of cheer.
Sweetheart, weve arrived! Out you go! Elijahs sleek car stopped at the roadside, immediately drawing the curious eyes of passersby.
As Elizabeth stepped out of the car, her door clicking shut behind her, she noticed the principal approaching, arms laden with groceries.
The moment his eyes landed on her, recognition lit his face.
With a wide smile, he hurried over.
Elizabeth! Where did you and Mr.
James head off to today for some fun? Spotting the luxurious vehicle and recalling his previous encounter with Daxton at the school, he naturally assumed the two had been out together.
Hearing this, Elijah exited the car, his face a thundercloud waiting to erupt.
He strode toward Elizabeth, his steps deliberate and his eyes blazing, before asking in a tone sharp enough to cut glass, And who might this be? With their divorce hovering like a storm cloud, Elizabeth had no intention of letting Elijah get tangled up with the people in her life.
She hesitated, scrambling for an excuse to steer the conversation elsewhere.
The principal, however, seemed to have a lightbulb moment.
Oh, youre Elizabeths cousin, arent you? I think Ive seen you before.
Your familys genes are incredibleboth the men and women are remarkably good-looking.
Sandra, just climbing out of the car, let out a hearty laugh.
Elizabeth, isnt your cousin pushing forty by now? The principal opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by the shrill ring of his phone.
Answering it, he heard his wifes impatient voice.
Why are you taking so long with the groceries? The other dishes are ready! Ill be home soon, he assured her, then turned back to Elizabeth with a polite smile.
Elizabeth, you should join us for dinner sometime.
Elizabeth responded with a warm smile of her own.
You should hurry back and finish cooking.
Ive got friends waiting here, so I wont impose, but Ill visit another time.
Nodding, the principal said a quick goodbye and headed off.
Sandra sidled up to Elizabeth, nudging her playfully.
I told you to find someone younger.
Men age like milk, and after thirty, its all downhill from there.
She spoke with a tinge of guilt, avoiding Elijahs piercing gaze and instead fixating on the uneven steps by the roadside.
Elijah, however, wasnt one to be overshadowed.
Despite being three years older than Elizabeth, his appearance was nothing short of strikingbetter even than most men his age.
Yet his aura was heavy, as if hed weathered storms and conquered battles far beyond his years.
The tension between them thickened.
Elijahs voice sliced through the air, grim and unyielding.
Why didnt you clarify? Elizabeth met his glare with cool indifference.
Whats the point? If I explain now, what happens next time? Should I tell him were divorced then? Elijahs deep-set eyes burned like a volcano on the brink of eruption.
For a long moment, he stared at her before his lips curled into a frigid smile.
Fine.
Well finalize the divorce as soon as you return to Orkset.
Without waiting for a response, he turned sharply, opened the car door, and barked at Oliver.
Lets go back.
Oliver hesitated by the car, glancing nervously between Elijah and Elizabeth.
Ms.
Sandra… Elijah cut him off, his tone biting.
Shes perfectly capable of managing on her own.
You dont need to interfere.
But this is a small town.
It might not be entirely safe… Oliver began, only to falter under Elijahs steely gaze.
Are you planning to stay here with her, then? Elijah asked, his voice laced with ice.
Without another word, Oliver cast Elizabeth an apologetic look and slid back into the drivers seat.
The car engine roared, and in moments, it disappeared down the road.
Sandra, finally snapping out of her daze, let out a bitter laugh.
Men really do flip the script once theyve had their fun.
Her gaze flitted to the faint marks on Elizabeths skin, mirrored on her own.
Elizabeth brushed off the implication and redirected the conversation.
Whats going on with you and Albin? At the mention of her own predicament, Sandra deflated like a balloon.
She hung her head, her tone laden with resignation.
What do you think? You saw it.
We slept together.
She rubbed her lower back with a wince.
That guy acted like hed never seen a woman before.
He was so rough, Im still sore.
Elizabeths eyes widened at Sandras bluntness, and she instinctively glanced around to ensure no one else could hear.
Thankfully, the street was deserted, sparing them from any wandering ears.
While she wasnt exactly a prude, hashing out such personal matters in full volume on the open pavement felt like airing laundry in the town square.
Without missing a beat, she latched onto Sandras arm and steered her briskly toward Gracies apartment.
Lower your voice, will you? This is your personal business, not a town hall announcement.
Sex is as ordinary as having a meal or sipping water, Sandra shot back with the stubbornness of a mule.
Even so, she grudgingly toned it down a notch.
Elizabeth pressed forward, unwilling to let it drop.
Alright, thenspill it.
