Elijah, brow furrowed and eyes sharp with a piercing glare, stared down at the now-silent phone on the table.

His expression was a blend of betrayal and simmering frustration.

The lively atmosphere of Kristopher’s party was abruptly interrupted when the courier arrived with unexpected divorce papers.

Kristopher had just escorted Lise back to her residence, and the night had fully settled in.

Oliver, seated in the passenger seat, turned to Kristopher with a concerned expression and asked, “Mr.

Norris, where should I take you now?”

For a moment, Kristopher considered Bayview Villa, but the painful memory of Elizabeth caused his face to twist with discomfort.

His voice was cold as he ordered, “Take me to the Norris Mansion.”

Oliver nodded, understanding the unspoken weight of the situation.

The driver immediately adjusted the route and headed toward the grand gates of the Norris Mansion.

The next morning, as daylight broke, Oliver and the chauffeur were once again at the mansion, ready to accompany Kristopher.

Kristopher sat quietly in the backseat, lost in thought, as Oliver outlined the day’s schedule, his voice a soothing rhythm in the stillness of the car.

Halfway through, Oliver hesitated, his discomfort palpable as silence fell between them.

“Is there something you haven’t told me?”

With some reluctance, Oliver spoke again, “Mr.

Norris, there’s an urgent matter in Isonridge tomorrow that requires your signature on an important contract.”

Kristopher raised an eyebrow, confusion crossing his face.

“It’s just a short trip.

Just pack a few things.

What’s the issue?”

Oliver sighed, proceeding cautiously, “Your clothes have always been handled by Mrs.

Norris.

She’s the one who arranges everything for your travels.”

While Oliver and the other assistants had occasionally stepped in, they could never match the care and precision Elizabeth had always provided.

Kristopher’s face darkened at the mention of Elizabeth.

Oliver, sensing his hesitation, asked carefully, “Should I ask Mrs.

Norris to come back and help with the packing?”

Kristopher turned his gaze toward the window, the silence heavy as he gave a subtle nod.

It was his way of allowing Elizabeth the opportunity to fix things.

With a quiet breath, Oliver dialed Elizabeth’s number.

The phone rang, each buzz echoing in the car until her voice, icy and distant, answered.

“Hello?”

The coldness in her tone, so different from the warmth Oliver had once heard, mirrored the growing distance between her and Kristopher.

Choosing his words carefully, Oliver glanced at Kristopher’s unreadable face and began, “Mrs.

Norris… Mr.

Norris has a business trip tomorrow.

Would you mind preparing his luggage?”

Meanwhile, Elizabeth, abruptly woken from her sleep, picked up the phone, her voice dripping with disbelief and frustration.

“Didn’t he get the divorce papers yesterday?”

Though their marriage had been born out of convenience, Elizabeth had embraced it fully.

But now, Oliver’s request seemed to reduce her to a mere servant in Kristopher’s eyes.

At one time, her love for him had made these tasks bearable, even meaningful.

But now, with the divorce hanging over her, she questioned why she continued to play the part of the dutiful wife.

Her annoyance, simmering from her feelings toward Kristopher, flared.

Sarcastically, she snapped, “You work for Norris Group, so you must understand what divorce means, right? Once it’s finalized, your boss and I are strangers.

Asking me for help now is no different than asking a stranger on the street.

If it’s such a burden for him, tell him to pay someone else to do it.

It’s not like he’s broke!”

“Mrs.

Norris, I…” Oliver began, but she cut him off abruptly, leaving him staring at the screen in stunned silence.

His attempts to reconnect were blocked.

“Mr.

Norris…” Oliver turned to Kristopher, his voice uneasy.

The car was filled with an uncomfortable silence, the harsh words from the phone call still hanging in the air.

Kristopher, his face hidden in the shadows, replied coldly, “I heard everything.”

His gaze was as chilling as the ice that covers a frozen lake.

Back at the hotel, Elizabeth, now wide awake, checked her bank account and immediately regretted transferring most of her savings to Kristopher.
