Chapter 81

Mikes POV

"Wow you really know how to make friends." Rain teases.

"You think that will be a problem?" I ask.

"Yes, but let's deal with my sister first. Come on." Rain heads in the direction the girls went. We go inside the house.

"They must be in Gabby's room." Rain says. We walk through the living room. Everything is clean and there are a few people in the house, but not many. We walk through a hallway that is littered with family pictures. Rain knocks on a door.

"Rue." He says. The door jerks open and Gabby stands there with her thick black hair and brown eyes.

"What do you want Rain?" She asks. Her face softens when she sees me.

"I want to check on Rue." He says. She opens the door a bit more to show Rue laying on Gabby's bed.

"Rain, I don't want a lecture right now." Rue says and shoves her face into a pillow. Rain walks in the room, I kinda hang back in the hallway while Gabby stares at me.

"I'm not going to lecture you. Could you have picked your moment better? Yes. Did you just humiliate Beta Jack infront of half of the pack? Yes. Was it totally awesome? Yes." Rue looks up from the pillow at Rain. They both start laughing. I feel the tension in the air release.

"What do you think your dad is going to say?" Gabby asks.

"Gezz Gabby. Way to ruin a moment." Rain says.

"Oh dad is going to be pissed." Rue says.

"Let's worry about that tomorrow. Your ex mate threatened Mike, and we both know what happened to his door." Rain says.

"My door? That was Jack?" I ask. I can't believe he would try to attack me. He is more unstable than I thought he was. But a part of me understands. To want to be with someone who doesn't want to be with you. I know exactly how that feels. I did the same thing, to Emily.

"Who else would it have been?" Gabby asks, her eyes still on me.

"So what should I do? Am I supposed to just wait until he shifts and breaks into my hut and murders me in my sleep?" I ask.

"Well let's not wait for all that. I know dad is starting your training in first thing tomorrow." Rain says.

"Really?" Rue and Gabby ask simultaneously.

"Uh yeah. But I doubt that will be fast enough to go up against the beta of the pack." I say.

"Then we need to make sure it is." Rain says. I raise my eyebrow.

"Oh, yeah. We could help train you." Rue says.

"Uuuhh. What do we do about him in the mean time?" I ask. Everyone looks pensive.

"What about the upcoming shopping trip?" Rue asks.

"We could move it up a few days, and I could probably get dad to put him on it. He would only been gone for a week though." Rain says.

"I mean that's better than nothing." Rue says. "I personally want as much space between me and Jack as possible." She continues.

"Am I wrong to be worried about tonight?" I ask.

"I'll camp out on your couch tonight. We can hang out in the meantime." Rain says.

"Sweet my own personal bodyguard." I say laughingly.

"Just call me the muscle." Rain says as he flexes his arms. We both laugh. Rue and Gabby just roll their eyes.

We spend the next few hours just hanging out in Gabby's room talking. We play a few rounds of Catan and one round of Scythe together. I'm getting pretty good at it. I guess reading through the rules the other night really helped me out. Aside from playing games we all pretty much catered to Rue. We tried our best to make her feel better about what happened between her and Jack. When it started to get pretty late Rain and I left Rue in Gabby's care and headed back to my hut.

"I didn't want to worry the girls, but I really wouldn't put it past Jack to come after you again. He's never done well with competition." Rain says.

"Competition? What do you mean?" I ask.

"Between Rue and, well not to sound weird, but and me." He says as we reach my hut.

"You think Jack is jealous of you and I? Geez. Look I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression but I'm not into you like that. Not that there is anything wrong with it of course. Love is love. No judgment over here." I say with a smirk. Rain starts laughing. He shoves me into the hut.

"I'm not interested in you. Sheesh. I meant as my beta." We walk inside and Rain takes a seat on the couch.

"Wait are you seriously considering me for your Beta?" I ask him.

"Well yeah, if your going to be staying.."

"I will be staying." I say.

"Awesome. And coke one man don't sell yourself short. I mean your the perfect pick. You have leadership experience, and I feel like I can trust you. We all make mistakes. It's what we do after them that counts." Rain says. "Thanks man."

"How do you think Jack's going to feel about it all?" I ask.

"He's probably not going to take it well.. The Beta is someone I would be working with every single day. You think I want to work that closely with Jack? I don't know how my father does it. I mean I was willing to try it out if he was going to mate with my sister, it made sense to just go ahead and make him my beta, you know to keep the peace. But now, seeing the way he treats her.. Everything has changed." Rain explains.

"Wow, so he really hates me." I say as I plop on the couch next to him. Rain laughs. "Jack hates everyone." He says.

"Well want to watch some tv? While we wait for Jack to show up and kill you?" Rain says laughingly.

"Sounds good to me."

To both of our surprise, the evening was uneventful. We watched tv and eventually Rain fell asleep on the couch, then I headed to my bedroom and passed out on my bed.

The next morning Rain and I head to Alpha Danny's office before breakfast. As we make our way over we start to notice raised voices coming from inside. Rain looks as me confused. I shrug my shoulders. We get closer and Rain knocks on the door. Jack opens it quickly with a sour look on his face.

"Jack we will talk more after breakfast." Alpha Danny says. Jack storms past me and Rain and we walk into the office. Alpha Danny looks exhausted.

"You boys are going to be the death of me." Alpha Danny says. Rain chuckles and takes a seat in front of the desk.

"And your sister too. All of you raise my blood pressure."

"Whatever Jack told you was a lie."

"So Rue didn't reject the pack Beta in front of half the pack?" He asks.

"Oh, well uhh, yeah that happened." Rain says.

Alpha Danny sighs and Luna Maria walks in.

"Oh stop sighing, he was a terrible match for Rue anyway. She couldn't even stand him. And besides, it looks like she found someone better." Luna Maria says.

"Who?" Alpha Danny asks.

"Mike." She points to me.
