Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 98 Acting? Design?
After midnight, the banquet finally came to an end, and the guests began to leave. As the hostess, Galatea naturally stayed with Alaric until the end. "It's late now. Mr. Alaric and Mrs. Knight should go back and rest," Ambrose casually said before leaving.
Galatea still felt his indifference and composure, as if he truly didn't recognize her. She inwardly took a deep breath, feeling both pitiful and relieved. Meeting again felt like strangers passing by without any disturbance. After seeing off all the guests, Galatea followed Alaric into the car. She knew that he had already figured everything out. She thought he would angrily interrogate her, but surprisingly, he remained calm.
He didn't ask her anything. Soft music played in the car, creating a soothing atmosphere. Galatea didn't speak either since Alaric remained silent.
When the car reached her home, Alaric advised her, "It's been a tiring day. Go back and have a rest."
"Okay, you too." After saying that, Galatea pushed open the door and got out of the car, standing on the side of the road and watching his car drive away.
Alaric's silence made her feel unsettled. Since it was now the middle of the night, and both their children were asleep. Seeing that Mia was still awake, Galatea asked, "It's so late. Mia, aren't you going to rest?"
"As I've gotten older, my sleep has worsened," Mia looked at her attire and smiled with the pride of a mother, "Stellan, you look really beautiful in that dress."
Galatea smiled faintly, and then Mia asked again, "How was the banquet today? After all these years of not attending such occasions, did you feel comfortable?" "There wasn't anything uncomfortable, but..." Mia was not an outsider, and Galatea had no one else to say this to except Mia, "I saw Ambrose."
"What?" Mia was shocked to hear this. "How did that scumbag suddenly come back? And he went to the banquet too?"
Galatea nodded and truthfully answered, "Not only that, he is now Alaric's business partner. I overheard something, and he seems to be a high-level executive of the Far East construction company."
"That scumbag has always been willing to do anything to climb up the ladder." Mia couldn't help but start talking, "As the master pointed out, he was with you because you are the daughter of Storm's Family. So he climbed up in the company. Although your father wasn't satisfied with him in the beginning, Mr. Storm valued him later. He ran away when things went wrong. Such a heartless person!"
Mia was even angrier than Galatea when talking about Ambrose. Unable to hold back, she continued, then looked at Galatea and, fearing that she would become upset, stopped talking and asked, "What was his reaction when he saw you?" "No reaction at all, as if he didn't recognize me." After saying this, Galatea sighed and then smiled to pretend to be relaxed. She said, "This result is the best. Regardless of whether he is pretending or not, treating each other as strangers is great."
"It's good if you can be open-minded about it, Stellan. Mr. Alaric is treating you well. Don't make any mistakes."
"I know." Galatea nodded. Tonight, Alaric didn't ask her anything, which made her uncertain, but she was grateful. When he was in spare time, she would definitely truthfully tell him about her past.
Tonight, Alaric didn't return home either. Instead, he stayed in the company's lounge. He stood by the window and could see the lights on in Galatea's bedroom.
Did the sight of his old love keep him awake all night?
Thinking about this, Alaric angrily closed the curtains. His mind was filled with what she said about "Alistair" and the words she spoke about her husband being deceased, to the point that he couldn't sleep all night. The next morning, when Silas was waiting in front of his office to report his work, he was already there.
"Good morning, Mr. Alaric." Silas entered his office and handed him a supplementary agreement. "This is a supplementary agreement signed with the Far East construction company. Please take a look." Alaric looked it over, and to be honest, there wasn't any problem, but...
"There are some issues with this supplementary agreement that need to be addressed. Call Ambrose and have him come over."
"Okay, Mr. Alaric." Silas immediately called Ambrose.
Ambrose arrived quickly, taking a seat across from Alaric. He asked, "Which clauses in the supplementary agreement did Mr. Alaric find inappropriate?"
"There aren't any major issues, just some minor details that need to be adjusted," Alaric replied, handing him the document, which was already marked up. "Alright, I'll have them make the changes right away," Ambrose quickly responded.
Then Alaric smirked coldly and asked casually, as if chatting, "I remember Ambrose mentioned earlier that your ex-girlfriend is in Arizona?"
Upon hearing this question, Ambrose remained calm and composed as he replied, "Yes."
"Out of curiosity, what kind of woman could make CEO Ambrose remember her so fondly?" Alaric inquired.
Ambrose smiled faintly and answered, "Just an ordinary girl. But love is blind, so I thought she was perfect."
"What about comparing her to my wife?" Alaric asked.
A slight stiffness appeared on Ambrose's face, but it was extremely hard to notice. He responded tactfully, "In terms of appearance, figure, and elegance, she can't compare to Mrs. Knight." "Is that so?" Alaric muttered with a cold snort.
Ambrose forced a smile, then asked, "Anything else, Mr. Alaric? If not, please go ahead with your work while I make the changes to the supplementary agreement."
"No rush," Alaric said, looking at the time. "Let's have lunch together today. It's on me."
"Alright," Ambrose could only agree.
"I have a meeting coming up, so please wait for me in my office," Alaric said.
"Of course, Mr. Alaric. Take your time," Ambrose politely responded.
Afterward, Alaric left the office. Once he was outside, he glanced back and thought in his mind, 'He's quite stubborn!'
While riding the elevator, Alaric dialed Galatea's number. She was still lying in bed half-asleep because she had not slept well last night, which made her feel groggy now.
"Hello, Alaric," Galatea answered, not expecting a call from him during work hours.
"Still sleeping?" Alaric asked.
"No, I'm awake."
"Good. Come to my office now, and we need to talk about the thing you mentioned last time."
"Are you not busy right now?"
"Not busy."
"Alright, I'll come over right away." Galatea hung up the phone and quickly got out of bed. Alaric felt a bit guilty after ending the call, but he couldn't stand these two people's actions in front of him.
Galatea quickly tidied herself up and ran into Nexus Innovations. Since Alaric had asked her to go to his office, Galatea didn't knock and directly open the door. To her surprise, it wasn't Alaric in his office, but Ambrose...
