Chapter 077 The girl I love is a wonderful person

Galatea had been waiting for less than ten minutes at the coffee shop downstairs from Nexus Innovations when Cormac arrived.

"Dr. Galatea, I'm really sorry for summoning you so abruptly," he said.

"No problem, I'm not busy right now. I have plenty of time," Galatea replied. "What's the urgent matter, Mr. Nash?"

Cormac opened a file case he was carrying and began extracting documents as he explained, "I wanted to ask Dr. Galatea to take a look at some medical images of my mother's. She was initially diagnosed with gastritis, but then a specialist suspected it might be cancer and had her redo the tests.

Unfortunately, that specialist left for a conference abroad this morning, and I'm out of my depth with this stuff. Suddenly I thought of you, since you're an expert, so I wanted to get your opinion first."

"I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I'll do my best," Galatea said as she took the images and reports and examined them carefully, her brow furrowing.

Cormac sensed an ominous feeling from her expression and asked cautiously, "Is it really cancer?"

"In cases like Mrs. Nash's, the initial diagnosis is usually common gastritis or a stomach ulcer. However, the difference lies in the unique shape of this condition-it's rare and so not easily detected.

"The specialist was right to suggest a more comprehensive examination. While it's confirmed to be cancer, fortunately, it's in the intermediate stages. There's still a good chance for a cure," Galatea explained slowly. Despite the confirmation, Cormac couldn't help but worry-it seemed their fear had become a reality.

"Did you tell Mrs. Nash?" Galatea asked.

"I didn't dare to. Just told her it was ordinary gastritis," was the reply.

"It's best not to let the patient know. Otherwise, the mental stress could be considerable."

"I'm fully aware of that. But surgery is needed, and then there's a whole series of chemotherapy treatments to follow. I'm just afraid we can't keep it a secret." Cormac spoke with evident concern.

Galatea pondered for a moment before suggesting, "How about this: tell her that the test results indicate a rather serious gastric ulcer, and the doctors recommend surgery.

"As for the follow-up chemotherapy, we could have the doctor come home under the pretext of administering nutritional injections. In any case, the patient must not find out."

"Alright, I'll prepare a fake medical record for my mother." Cormac was visibly grateful. "Thank you so much, Dr. Galatea."

"No problem. I didn't do much. Spend more time with your mother and get her to have the surgery as soon as possible."

"I understand." Cormac got up, speaking hurriedly. "Then I'll go take care of it. Thanks again, Dr. Galatea."

After saying this, Cormac quickly left.

Galatea truly didn't have a good impression of the Nash family, but she found Ravenna to be quite amiable, and Cormac seemed easy to get along with.

Although it was mid-stage, it was still cancer. Even if curable, the treatment would be a painful ordeal. As a doctor, she was accustomed to the cycles of life and death, but it still stirred emotions when someone close was affected by cancer. After Cormac's departure, Galatea remained alone in the café, sipping her coffee. Soon, she saw Alaric's car driving out of the underground parking lot, closely followed by a Bentley.

Was he going out for a meal with that important client?

...

Nexus Innovations had just signed the contract with Far East International, and Ambrose was hosting a celebratory dinner. Alaric had not declined the invitation.

The dinner took place in a top-tier hotel, in a private room on the top floor with special glass walls allowing a panoramic view of the entire city of Arizona.

"It's been years since I've been back. Arizona has changed so much," remarked Ambrose as he settled into his seat, looking out the window.

"Are you from Arizona?" asked Alaric.

"No, but I spent five years here," replied Ambrose, turning his gaze back to the window, his eyes drifting in a certain direction. A shadow of melancholy briefly crossed his face as he seemed to recall something from his past. Although he didn't make it obvious, Alaric still noticed something and asked, "This city seems to have a special significance for you."

Caught in the realization, Ambrose let out an embarrassed smile, then replied, "You really have a keen eye, Mr. Knight. I'm not afraid of your laughter, but a former girlfriend of mine lived here."

At the mention of her, a deeper shade of sadness seemed to shadow Ambrose's eyes.

"I see," Alaric said, having already guessed as much. "It's clear that, even to this day, you still love her deeply."

Hearing this, Ambrose gave a wry smile and answered honestly, "Yes, she was a wonderful girl. It's unfortunate, so many things in life are beyond our control, and back then, we had to part ways." "Indeed, it's regrettable."

Ambrose offered another bitter smile and asked, "I've heard that you have a son who is both very handsome and adorable. Mrs. Knight must be an extraordinary beauty."

"The woman I fell for is indeed magnificent," Alaric admitted without a hint of modesty.

"Of course." Ambrose took up his wine glass. "Here's to you, Mr. Knight. May our partnership be a pleasure."

"To a pleasant collaboration." Alaric also lifted his glass.

After clinking glasses, they both drank down their wine.

...

Galatea sat for a while in the downstairs coffee shop before returning home to continue responding to messages of support online.

"Stellan, go take a nap," Mia suggested, handing her a glass of warm water.

"Thank you, Mia. I'm not tired, but you should rest," Galatea said.

"I will then. Don't overdo it, Stellan." Mia was of an age when naps were necessary.

"I know."

After quietly closing the door to the study, Mia headed to the guest room to sleep.

Galatea remained focused on replying to the messages online until the sound of the doorbell rang.

With Mia asleep, Galatea went to answer the door. As she opened it, she was met with the smell of alcohol and the presence of Alaric.

He stood there, leaning against the doorframe, cheeks slightly flushed, eyes glazed with intoxication as he gazed at her.

Had he overindulged while entertaining clients?

"How much have you had to drink?" Galatea couldn't help but step aside to let him in, holding onto him as he entered-after all, the house was his. "Just... not much," he replied.

Alaric and Ambrose initially kept their drinking under control during dinner.

However, as the evening went on, Ambrose brought up past relationships, which led Alaric to drink more and more.

Alaric hadn't consumed much alcohol, but his years of abstaining due to health reasons had rendered him almost teetotal, heightening his susceptibility to its effects.

Noticing his intoxication, the driver had intended to take him back to the Knight family villa, but Alaric had insisted on going to Galatea's place. Reluctantly, the driver complied and brought him over.

Galatea helped him into the bedroom, where Alaric threw himself onto the bed. Irritated, he started pulling at his necktie, and in the process, his shirt buttons came undone, revealing his chest.
