Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 59 Covetous Glances and Forbidden Thoughts

Mouthing the name, Alaric's gaze instinctively shifted towards Galatea. Immersed in her book, she didn't notice his watchful eyes. 'All I know about Galatea's late husband is that his name was Ambrose.'

'Ambrose? It must be a coincidence,' Alaric mused, gently teasing himself, as he chuckled at his initial tension upon seeing the name.

Alaric had diligently reviewed the profiles of the six companies, and surprisingly, Far East International did indeed seem quite competitive. Gavin's personal involvement as the director demonstrated a high level of sincerity. Alaric set the papers down and glanced at the clock, realizing it was already eleven at night. He stood up, approached the bed, and gently took the book out of Galatea's hands.

"It's late. Time to get some rest," Alaric said.

Galatea had been deeply absorbed in her book and hadn't paid attention to the time, it was indeed very late.

Before Galatea could respond, Alaric carefully helped her lie down and tucked her in with the blanket.

They were in a VIP hospital suite with a dedicated caregiver's bed for Alaric to sleep on. Separated by a curtain, their nightly routine was to draw the curtain and settle into their respective beds-tonight was no different. Normally, Galatea would fall asleep early, but she wasn't feeling sleepy tonight. She turned to look at the curtain, illuminated by the light. She could see his silhouette changing his shirt, the contour of his muscular chest visibly casted upon the fabric.

Galatea kept watching, her mind drifted back to a night in the past when Ambrose had stood by the bed and taken off his shirt in a similar way.

It had been in a hotel room where she had made the crazy decision to give herself to him for the first time.

"Stellan, are you really sure about this?" Ambrose asked nervously.

"Yes, I've thought it through. Dad will agree, and the worst he can do is ground me. Let's do this!"

Having said that, she tightly gripped the sheets and closed her eyes, nerves kicking in for the first time. That's when her phone suddenly rang-it was her father. "Stellan, are you at the Silver Star Hotel right now? Are you with Ambrose?"

"No, it's just me!"

"If I find out that punk Ambrose is there, believe me, I'll fire him, and you'll never see him again!" he threatened.

"There's really nobody here, I'm heading home now."

That evening's plan failed, and from that night on, her father watched her like a hawk, making things difficult for Ambrose at every turn.

To win her father's approval, Ambrose worked diligently. In just four years, he became the vice president and dad's right-hand man.

Ambrose had worked so hard to earn her father's approval.

At that moment, the curtain was abruptly pulled open. Galatea snapped back to reality and looked at Alaric, who stood there in nothing but his boxers. Before she could even react, Alaric's voice hovered over her. "Why are you spying on me?" 'Spying?'

"I wasn't—" Galatea blurted out, but Alaric was already leaning over her, his hands propped beside her pillow and his body pressing down so close it stole her breath away.

"Fantasizing lewd thoughts while watching me undress, are we?"

"Alaric, you truly are delusional!" She accidentally thought of her ex-boyfriend, but if she told Alaric the truth, he'd probably strangle her in his anger. "Lusting after my physique?"

"What?" Galatea couldn't help but feel speechless. Alaric's vanity knew no bounds.

"Don't deny it. Your body never lies."

Galatea fell silent.

"Mr. Knight, I'm lying here in a hospital bed, weak," lamented Galatea with genuine frustration.

Alaric cracked a sly smile, "You know what's on your mind."

With that, he stood up and walked away, leaving her to finally breathe deeply. Only then did she notice Alaric had settled onto the adjacent care bed.

"Aren't you going to pull the curtain?"

"We're not sharing the same bed, so why bother? From now on, the curtains stay open." After saying this, Alaric closed his eyes.

"Jerk," Galatea cursed under her breath, resentful of her helplessness to leave the bed.

Though Alaric appeared to be sleeping, Galatea couldn't rest. Opening her eyes, she caught a glimpse of him on the care bed. Usually, he would sleep after her and wake before her, so she had never seen him asleep until now. 'He seems rather peaceful,' she mused silently, 'doesn't even snore and falls asleep so easily. Is his insomnia real?'

Despite the high-end VIP hospital room, it couldn't compete with the comforts of home, yet aside from her days of being unconscious, Alaric was sound asleep..

It was late when Galatea finally dozed off, causing her to wake later than usual the next morning when she felt the doctor's needle.

"Awake?" Alaric inquired.

Galatea responded lightly. After the doctor left, Alaric gently wiped her face and hands with a warm towel and helped her rinse her mouth before handing her breakfast. "Woke up late today," he noted. It was already 9:30 a.m.

"A good sleep is valuable," she replied.

Galatea's sleep quality was something Alaric envied. Like that other time in the car-she was out cold.

Before Galatea had awakened, Alaric reviewed the files for six corporations again. Judging by their overall strength and bids, Far East International stood a great chance of winning the contract. "Ambrose?"

Alaric felt a pang of unease at the mention of the name. As Galatea was finishing her meal, he asked, "So, I only know your kids by the nicknames Harry and Elisa. What are their full names?" "Rook Storm, Atlas Storm," Galatea replied honestly.

"Their last name is Storm?" Alaric deduced, figuring it must be from their father's side. "So, your late husband was Alistair Storm?"

Alistair Storm?

Galatea paused momentarily and then grasped Alaric's line of thought, playing along.

"Yes, his name was Alistair Storm. You're quite smart, Mr. Knight," she said with a smile. Alistair Storm? Alaric couldn't help but let a slight smile curl at the corner of his lips. Why did the name Ambrose unsettle him?
