Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 57 What Does Your Child Have to Do with Me?
"I'll wheel you back inside," Alaric offered and rose to his feet, guiding her wheelchair back toward the hospital wing. The nurse had already prepared her medication and was waiting in the room. Alaric wheeled Galatea in and then, right in front of the doctor, carefully lifted her from the chair and gently placed her onto the bed, making sure she was comfortably settled and snug under the covers.
"Galatea," the nurse remarked with a hint of envy, "your husband is something special, truly. I've seen plenty of spouses come in to take care, but Mr. Knight's attentiveness and patience are rare. You're lucky to have him." Following the nurse's comment, the room was suddenly filled with an air of awkwardness, and Galatea could only respond with an embarrassed smile.
Considering Alaric's usual short temper, his meticulous devotion in the hospital was not a small matter. It was a significant gesture.
After the nurse left, post-injection, the atmosphere reached a peak of discomfort. Galatea just looked down, avoiding his gaze, unsure of what to say next.
It took a while, but Alaric finally broke the silence. "I was out of line earlier in the yard. I came on too strong. I apologize."
"It's okay," Galatea Hartley said, punishing her lips with a nibble, embarrased. "I should have kept my comments to myself. I tend to speak without thinking. It won't happen again, I promise."
Alaric paused before he gently clarified, "The thing with Orion, our child, it's not the traditional way you might be thinking of."
Suddenly, Alaric was at a loss for words. Galatea, sensing his hesitation, asked, "Alaric, are you trying to explain how you and Orion had a child?"
At that moment, Galatea couldn't suppress a laugh, "Why are you telling me this? What does your child's origins have to do with me?"
She found his current demeanor somewhat amusing. Mr. Knight, usually the epitome of authority and control was now hesitating and even showing a hint of embarrassment.
Galatea didn't understand why he felt the need to share this with her. After all, how the two of them decided to have a child was quite personal. Wasn't it awkward for him too?
Just as Galatea finished her thought, Alaric's face darkened. Annoyed, he said curtly, "I have to step out. If you need to change dressings or anything, just call the nurse."
With those words, Alaric strode out swiftly, leaving Galatea to mutter to herself about his bizarre mood swings, "Absolutely baffling!"
Stepping out of the room, Alaric glanced back through the glass at Galatea lying in the hospital bed and couldn't help but curse under his breath.
Though he said he had to leave for a bit, Alaric couldn't bear to leave the hospital grounds, so he just sat in the courtyard.
"Dad!" It wasn't long before he heard Caspian's voice. Looking up, Alaric saw his son walking toward him with Cormac not far behind.
Over the past few days, Caspian had grown increasingly restless, yearning to visit the hospital just to sneak a peek of Galatea at the entrance. To his surprise, he found his father sitting outside upon entering the facility. "Why are you guys here?" Alaric asked.
"Ask your dear son. He's been on my case ten times a day, asking about his mom's condition. He just couldn't sit still anymore, so we came to check on her," Cormac replied before inquiring, "Why aren't you in the room with her?" Should he admit that it was to ease the awkwardness? Of course not!
"Just needed some fresh air."
"Well, Dad, you get your air. I'll go up and check on Mom," Caspian said quickly, adding a stern warning, "You're not to enter the room before I come out."
"What? Got secrets you don't want me to hear?" Alaric teased.
"That's right. You and Cormac wait here for me. I'll go alone." Caspian walked a few steps away, turned back, and reminded him sternly again, "Remember, don't go in before I get back." "Got it," Alaric responded.
Caspian had initially just wanted to stealthily glance at Galatea, yet the opportunity to truly enter her room was an unexpected delight. The only way he could see her was by pretending to be Harry.
Now, bored to death and hooked to an IV, Galatea was reading a medical textbook in her hospital bed. Hearing the door open, she thought Alaric had returned, but to her surprise, the person who came in was Harry. "Harry?"
"Mom!" It was the first time Caspian had seen her since the car accident.
Although Galatea's condition had improved since her accident, she was still confined to her hospital bed.
Caspian was feeling a deep ache, the rawest of emotions at that moment.
"Did I not tell you not to come see me at the hospital before I was discharged? Why don't you ever listen?" Galatea chided softly and tenderly.
"Mom, how are you feeling now? Is it still painful, anywhere?" Caspian asked with concern, his heart aching for her.
"The pain's gone now, sweetie. You don't have to worry," Galatea reassured him quickly, then inquired, "Mia and Elisa don't know about my accident, do they?"
"No," Caspian admitted guiltily.
"That's good."
"Mom," Caspian ventured, shifting the topic strategically, "has Alaric been the one looking after you this whole time while you've been in the hospital?" "Yes."
"Mom, even though the car accident was not entirely his fault, and he's been here taking care of you... doesn't that mean he's a good guy?"
Her laughter filled the room at his words before she responded, "Are you trying to get me to marry him again?"
"Yeah," Caspian confessed, "I love you, Mom, and I want a dad too. I hope you two can be together. However, of course, you've got to get better first." "Mom, can I touch you gently now?" Caspian asked, extremely cautious.
"Of course, my dear."
Carefully, Caspian climbed onto the hospital bed, lying beside her, and gently wrapped his small arms around her.
"Mom, I love being in your arms like this. It feels so safe. I'm really scared of losing you."
"Silly boy, I'm your mom, and I'll always be there for you. How could you ever lose me?"
'If he truly was Harry, he wouldn't have such worries. However, he is Caspian.'
'Although he'd been masquerading as Harry for some time, Galatea was still unaware of the existence of a child named Caspian.'
doesn't matter, his dad already promised to make Galatea his bride, ensuring Caspian would never lose her.'
"When's the wedding going to be?" Cormac glanced at the hospital room upstairs before turning to Alaric with the question, "You didn't hesitate to postpone the bid opening by over a month just to care for her. I've got to say, that genuinely moves me."
"That's none of your business. Keep your nose out of it!"
"Fine, let's talk about something that is my business," Cormac challenged. "While you were laying low in the hospital, those contractors who were desperate for the bid are panicking. Gavin from Far East International can't reach you, so he's come to me, asking to get a word in with you, hoping for a chance to meet."
