Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 48 I Won't Let Anyone Bully My Fiancée
Alaric had previously shrugged off the slanderous online chatter with a firm belief in the court of public opinion that often required little from his part to set the record straight. However, seeing Galatea in anguish, receiving treatment, and being targeted anew by hurtful words, he couldn't just stand by this time. Cormac, efficient as always, ensured that the trending news about Galatea was dealt with in less than half a day with a newer headline. "Dramatic Turn in Serenity Heights Medical Center Doctor Incident-Hospital Director and Several Colleagues Reveal the Previous Reality of the Situation."
Alaric had called Galen exactly for this, and Galen, along with colleagues at Serenity Heights Medical Center, spoke out in Galatea's defense. The sequence of events leading up to and including the day of surgery was revealed, complete with footage from the ward and operating room and with Andreas's detailed medical records included.
One comment read.
[The situation has finally taken a turn for the better. All these video recordings and medical records must be convincing enough, right? I always thought the deceased's son was a no-good ruffian and, sure enough, that's the case!] Another commenter said.
[Turns out the female doctor is really a good one-prioritizing saving lives above all else and even footing the bill for $500,000 out of her own pocket. After enduring such a long time of cyberbullying, she truly is worthy of sympathy.] A sentiment echoed among the newest comments.
[Hope she recovers soon.]
Alaric merely skimmed through a few comments. Whether these were genuine sentiments from the public or orchestrated by Silas Moon didn't matter anymore. At least the hostility and curses were gone.
This time, Galatea truly managed to sleep peacefully through the night, the severe pain that initially overwhelmed her upon awakening had finally subsided enough to afford her a proper rest.
When she awoke again, while not feeling entirely better, the discomfort had lessened significantly.
Just as Galatea was about to say something to Alaric, he quickly interjected, "You should save your strength and speak less for now. According to the doctor, you still can't consume food for the next forty-eight hours after waking up. If you're feeling hungry, I'm afraid you'll just have to bear with it."
Indeed, she felt a gnawing hunger, yet at the same time, she was completely devoid of appetite.
"Are you still feeling any discomfort?" Alaric inquired once more.
Galatea just shook her head.
Her lips were still severely chapped, prompting Alaric to quickly dab them with a water-soaked cotton swab. Galatea seemed resistant when he moved to tend to her lips.
"Just hold still. I'll be done in a second."
Galatea couldn't really move much anyway, so she let him care for her lips.
Having known Alaric for a while, she was used to his typically commanding presence. His sudden gentleness was something she couldn't quite adjust to.
'Had he been here the whole time these past few days?'
"You've been feverish and sweating from pain. You must be uncomfortable. I've arranged for a nurse to help you clean up, all right?" Alaric suggested.
Galatea was in a dismal state, and she felt quite embarrassed to be seen like this by him. Yet, immobilized and having sweated through moments of discomfort, she really couldn't argue - she certainly wasn't feeling great.
Before Galatea could respond, Alaric instructed the nurse. Seeing that Galatea's condition seemed stable, he advised, "Be gentle when you clean her. Make sure not to hurt her. I have to step out, and I probably won't be back until this evening." "Of course, Mr. Knight."
After leaving his instructions, Alaric departed from the hospital to meet with Orion. The film set where Orion was working was nearby in Arizona, just a half-day's drive there and back.
In Alaric's absence, the nurse took extra care in giving Galatea a sponge bath. Afterward, she felt significantly more comfortable.
"Miss Galatea, Mr. Knight said he had to attend to something and would be back later in the evening. Let me know if you need anything in the meantime," the nurse mentioned. 'Alaric's gone?'
"Okay," Galatea replied slowly.
"Miss Galatea, I observed everything while you were unconscious. Mr. Knight was quite concerned. He stayed by your bedside the entire time without taking a single step away," the nurse remarked. Galatea was surprised to hear that Alaric had been by her bedside this whole time.
When Alaric reached the film set, Orion was in the middle of shooting a scene. Orion was pleasantly surprised to see him and performed energetically.
She ran excitedly toward Alaric, asking, "Alaric, what brings you here? You didn't tell me you were visiting the set. Is this a surprise just for me?"
"Quit playing dumb, Orion!" Alaric whipped out his phone and pulled up her Facebook page, shoving it in her face. "Did you post these?"
Orion's heart skipped a beat when he confronted her, especially with the rest of the crew around. She didn't want a public scene. "Let's talk in my dressing room," she suggested.
Once they were alone, she feigned innocence. "Alaric, did you come all the way here just because of my Facebook posts?"
"You deliberately started an online outrage with that medical malpractice incident last time, and I let it slide. Now you're at it again," Alaric fumed, an anger swirling in his eyes that was truly frightening. "So, you're here for Galatea's sake?"
"She is my fiancée. How could I stand by while you persistently harass her?" he said.
"Yes, I posted both messages. So what? She's the one lacking medical ethics, causing a patient's death. I was simply voicing for the victims. Is there a problem?" Orion spat, defiantly.
"You know exactly what you believe!" Alaric's tone carried an implicit threat. "The issue has been clarified, and as a public figure, you've spread misinformation. I now demand you post an immediate apology to Galatea on Facebook!" "Apologize to her?" It sounded like a joke to Orion. "Why should I?"
"If you still want a career in show business!" Alaric's threat was tangible. "Sure, your current project is financed by Nash Entertainment, but I've got the means to replace you as lead. And if it comes to that, our Knight and Nash families will be at each other's throats.
"Think about it, the Knight family has investments in Nash Group. If we pull out our funds, your Nash family will struggle too. The only reason I'm offering you this chance is out of respect for your parents." "Alaric, are you honestly willing to ruin our families' friendship over her? Our families have been close for generations!"
"If I don't see your apology on Facebook by seven tonight, not only will you hear about the Knight family pulling our investment, but you'll also receive a defamation lawsuit for slandering my fiancée!" With that, Alaric turned on his heel and stormed out.
Once he was gone, Orion, furious, knocked over the makeup on her table to the floor. The assistant director walked in. "Orion, we're set for the next scene."
"To hell with the shoot!" Orion exploded. "Nobody's shooting today!"
Being the daughter of an investor, Orion's outburst meant that not even the director could dare to object.
