Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 440 If I Had Known Then What I Know Now, Would I Have Made the Same Choices

According to the doctor, there was nothing they could do now; Griffon could just go home and wait it out.

But honestly, taking him home would be a hassle, so it was easier to let him stay here. Griffon lay there, weak as ever, and Cormac felt like he was reliving the nightmare with Ravenna all over again. Cormac sat by his bedside, staring at him, unable to shake off the resentment. Cormac had a cushy life handed to him on a silver platter, but Griffon ruined it. How could Cormac not hate him for that? Griffon whispered, "Cormac..."

Hearing his name, Cormac looked at him and said, "You don't have much strength left. Just rest, don't talk."

"These days..." Griffon struggled to speak, "These days, have you been doing okay?"

Doing okay?

If it weren't for Aurora, he would've jumped off a building ages ago.

"Broken family, ruined life, do you think I've been doing okay?"

Hearing this, Griffon broke down, crying in utter pain. Seeing him like this, Cormac's heart ached.

At this moment, Griffon must have regretted everything, right? But what good was regret now?

"It's all my fault! Mine!" Griffon cried out in agony, and Cormac couldn't help but get teary-eyed, not for him, but for Ravenna and Orion.

"Cormac, Cormac!" After crying for a while, Griffon's hand trembled as he tried to grab Cormac. Cormac leaned in, and Griffon clutched his clothes. "Orion, Orion was murdered, it wasn't just an accident, it wasn't! Please find out the truth, don't let her die in vain."

On this, he was dead sure that Orion was murdered, it was no accident, definitely not!

"I've looked into Orion's accident over and over, it was just an accident."

"No! No!" Griffon got super agitated hearing Cormac, "It wasn't an accident, Orion was deliberately murdered, it was definitely not an accident..."

"You say it was murder, then who do you think did it? Alaric?" Cormac sneered, "Do you think everyone is like you, treating life as worthless, ready to kill anyone they dislike?"

"No, even if it wasn't Alaric, it had to be someone else. Cormac, don't let Orion die in vain, don't let her die with unresolved grievances."

After saying this, Griffon suddenly had trouble breathing, his face turned red, and he couldn't say anything more, looking extremely distressed.

Cormac quickly called the doctor, who immediately took Griffon back to the emergency room.

Cormac sat on the bench outside, head bowed, feeling indescribable.

Then he heard footsteps and looked up to see Alaric.

Cormac questioned, "What are you doing here?"

"It's not time for my treatment yet, and I'm feeling okay, so I came to check on things. How's it going?" Alaric glanced at the emergency room, knowing things couldn't be good. Cormac let out a deep sigh and shook his head, "The doc said he won't make it through the month, but honestly, it could be any day now. The cancer's everywhere, there's no saving him."

Alaric sighed too and plopped down next to Cormac. They sat in silence for a bit before Alaric asked, "What did he say to you? Regretting it all?"

"When someone's about to die, even the worst of them might find a bit of conscience, right?"

"Every bad person eventually gets what's coming to them. If they could start over, maybe they'd choose to be good, but it's too late now," Alaric said.

Cormac didn't speak for a long time, still mulling over Griffon's words.

"Apart from the pain, he keeps harping on one thing. He says Orion's accident wasn't an accident, it was deliberate murder."

Hearing this, and seeing Cormac's look, Alaric couldn't help but laugh, "What's that supposed to mean? Do you suspect me? Should I swear on my life? I swear, I didn't do it."

"I know it wasn't you," Cormac said. "Actually, I've always thought Orion's accident was fishy, but after investigating for so long and finding nothing, I believed it was just an accident. However Griffon is so sure, I'm starting to doubt." "Not an accident?" Alaric found it too coincidental too. Both people involved in the accident died, leaving no evidence.

"If it wasn't an accident, I can't think of anyone else with a motive besides me."

"Neither can I. Even if Orion was disliked, it's hard to believe someone would want her dead. But the conclusion that it was an accident is indeed hard to swallow."

Alaric thought for a moment and said, "If it wasn't an accident, there's only one possibility: Aurora's dad was bribed. The other person picked him up because he was terminally ill with cancer. If that's the case, you should ask Aurora again. If her dad was bribed, there might be some clues, maybe small details that were overlooked before."

Were there details overlooked before?

Cormac had investigated thoroughly back then. Could there really be something he missed?

Just then, the emergency room door opened. Cormac quickly stood up, seeing the doctor frowning and sighing. "Prepare yourself, it's just a couple of days. Get ready for the funeral."

Even without the doc saying it, Cormac knew Griffon had only a couple of days left. Had he been sick for so long? Even in prison, inmates had rights, and doctors should have treated him promptly. How did it come to this? Of course, it was already too late to ask questions.

"Thanks," Cormac said politely, then followed Griffon back to the ward. He was still unconscious.

Alaric followed him in. Seeing Griffon on the bed, he almost didn't recognize him, so tormented by illness he was unrecognizable.

"If he regrets now, why did he do it in the first place?" Cormac took a deep breath, "When he was committing those evils, he might have never expected he'd end up like this."
