Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 40 She's a Calamity

As the sharp pain shot through her waist, Galatea thought she might break in two. Her arms weakened but did not give in, allowing only a slight bend in the elbows.

Despite her efforts, she inadvertently struck the ice pack, and blood immediately began to flow from the point of impact. Noticing this, Galatea hastily had him sit down as she knelt beside him to attend to the injury. As she worked on it, she couldn't help but scold him irritably, "What's wrong with you? Can't you take a joke? You shouldn't be moving around during recovery. Look, you're bleeding!" Galatea was livid. Though she was gentle with her hands, her mouth didn't stop berating him out of frustration.

Alaric looked down at her, observing her mix of earnest concern and annoyance, and couldn't help but let a small smile play at the corners of his mouth.

Galatea was meticulously treating him, and Alaric watched her the entire time, unaware that their interaction was being secretly photographed.

After she finished, Galatea exhaled a long breath and asked, "How does it feel now? Does it hurt?"

When she looked up at him, their eyes met at close range. Startled, she quickly averted her gaze and tried to stand, only to feel a sharp pain in her back.

Alaric extended a helpful hand, assisting her to her feet, "Did you hit it hard?" he asked.

"It's not paralysis," she replied and slowly bent down to pick up her phone from the floor. The phone was intact, but the screen was shattered.

"I'll pay for the phone," he offered.

"No need," Galatea Hartley retorted, confident she could still use it once the screen was repaired. "Why did I even bother helping you? You can't take a joke, always so uptight and serious!" Alaric just snorted, saying nothing more.

"You may be shrewd and calculating, but you're quite competent as a doctor," he finally admitted, recalling the recent surgery and her quick response earlier. She was skilled in her profession. "Thanks a lot," Galatea snapped back, still irked.

The twenty or so minutes required after the therapy were torture for her to spend alone with him.

When the time was finally up, Galatea carefully concluded, "I've outlined all the dietary recommendations in the treatment plan. Make sure you read it."

"Twice a week for therapy. I don't care how busy you are at the hospital. You will be here by six in the evening at the latest. If you're late, there will be consequences, got it?" Alaric commanded. "Got it."

'After all, Alaric is the boss.'

Galatea couldn't wait to leave. She finished speaking and turned to walk out the door, only to see Cormac waiting outside. Galatea froze. Had he been waiting outside the door all this time?

"Dr. Galatea, right?" Cormac greeted her generously as he saw her. "I'm Cormac, a friend of Alaric."

'Cormac? That night at the hotel, Alaric made a call for someone to pick up Orion. It was him, wasn't it, Orion's brother? "Nice to meet you," Galatea replied courteously before she walked away.

When Cormac entered Alaric's lounge, Alaric had just finished buttoning his shirt. Seeing him, Cormac couldn't help but tease, "Still at the office, and you can't keep it together?"

"Get your mind out of the gutter!" Alaric retorted. "She's now my private physician who will treat my insomnia, nothing more."

"Private physician?" Cormac chuckled. "Who is this Galatea, anyway? How did she so quickly win over both you and your notoriously difficult son?"

"She comes from a humble background," Alaric said casually while adjusting his shirt. "An orphan since childhood, widowed during pregnancy, and now a single mother raising two kids alone." "Orphaned and then widowed?" Cormac was taken aback. "Alaric, even if you dislike my sister, you don't have to be this desperate, do you? She could be bad luck. Be careful." Before Alaric could respond, the door was pushed open, and in came Galatea.

"Sorry, I forgot my purse." She hurried in, grabbed her bag, and quickly walked out.

After Galatea left, Cormac was still standing there stunned, then awkwardly asked, "She didn't hear what I just said, did she?"

"What do you think?"

"Why did you come to the office anyway?" Alaric asked coldly.

"Actually, I have something important to discuss." Cormac glanced at the time. "It's almost lunch. How about we talk about it over a meal."

Seated across from each other in a luxurious hotel's private dining room, Alaric got straight to the point as soon as they settled in. "What's this all about? Spit it out."

"There are two things," Cormac began. "First, I wanted to tell you that Caspian is not staying in the dorm anymore. He's with me every day."

Alaric was surprised. "Caspian isn't at the dorm, and he's with you?"

How could that be possible? If Caspian wasn't at the dorm, he should have been the one to pick him up, not Cormac?

"Hard to believe, I know, but it's the truth. If you doubt it, I can have Caspian call you tonight to explain himself."

Alaric could hardly believe it, but since Cormac was Caspian's psychiatrist and stayed at his place, Alaric didn't have any reason to worry. "What's the second matter?"

"The second thing is business-related." Cormac asked, "Rumor has it that you're planning to build a massive entertainment complex in Arizona?" "Your sources are quite up-to-date," Alaric commented.

"So, it's true?" Cormac had only heard whispers up till now and hadn't expected it to be legit.

"Yes, it is," said Alaric. "Why? Do you have an issue with it, Cormac? Your family runs a talent agency. I'm opening an entertainment complex. That doesn't conflict with your family's business, does it?"

"What do I care about conflict?" Cormac was not concerned about any clash with Nash's Family businesses. "The business dealings of Nash's Family don't concern me. I'm talking to you about this because I'm worried about you.

"On the other hand, your current company, Nexus Innovations, is doing so well, and venturing into a new field is going to take a toll on you. More importantly, I'm concerned about you attracting too much attention. You're attracting a multitude of competitors, and I'm talking about those people. You know what I mean."

Alaric certainly knew what Cormac meant by "those people"-a truly terrifying presence.
