Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 396 Why Are You Making Decisions on Your Own?

Even though Alaric said he wouldn't, Cormac was still on edge and reminded him, "Dude, don't blow me off and then go snooping around on your own."

Alaric replied, "I won't. Why would I risk my wife and kids' lives when I don't even know who we're up against?"

That seemed to calm Cormac down. Alaric added, "But seriously, don't let Galatea know I have found out about the threatening letter. She'll freak out even more."

"Relax, I won't spill," Cormac said. "And don't pick fights with Galatea. I know you've been in a funk lately, and she's feeling super guilty. Sometimes she gets all anxious and makes dumb decisions. Cut her some slack. You guys have been through too much to let this stuff get between you."

"Quit playing therapist. Just take care of your own wife," Alaric shot back.

"Whatever, man," Cormac retorted. "Talking to you is like talking to a wall. Finish your food and get out."

Alaric gave a wry smile, then dug into his meal. After he was done, he left Cormac's place and headed to the office.

By then, Stellan had also finished breakfast. Alaric had texted her last night, and today she called him.

The phone rang just as Alaric pulled up to Nexus Innovations.

"Galatea," Alaric answered.

"Alaric, you at the office?" Stellan asked.

"Yeah, just got here," he replied.

"Did you eat breakfast?" she inquired.

"Yeah, had it at Cormac's. You?" he asked.

"Just finished. You coming home tonight?" she asked.

"Yep," he confirmed.

"Alright, I'll wait for you," she said before hanging up.

"Mr. Knight went to the office?" Rowena asked.

Stellan nodded.

"He's got a lot on his plate. Let him handle it. I'll stick around with you today," Rowena offered.

"Thanks, Rowena. If it weren't for you, I'd be losing my mind at home," Stellan said.

"I've got nothing going on, so I've got time," Rowena said. "I've been learning to bake lately. They say sweets can lift your spirits. How about I get a teacher to come over and we bake together?" "Sure." A day of baking with Rowena sounded like a good distraction for Stellan.

Back at Nexus Innovations, Alaric was determined to make the extremist who attacked Stellan pay. The cops had nabbed the guy, and Alaric wasn't about to let him off easy.

As for the pesky reporters and all the bogus rumors, Alaric had a lawyer on it, suing a bunch of the rumor spreaders.

Regarding Marigold's sudden death, Alaric had his lawyer issue a statement, posting the police's findings directly.

If it had been anyone else, Alaric's statement might not have held much weight. But since it was his mom, it carried more clout.

Some comments popped up under the statement:

[If the police report's out, it must be legit. After all, she was his biological mom. Alaric's been in the military and a business big shot for years.]

[If he were dumb enough to be tricked by Stellan into hurting his own mom and covering for her, he'd be a total idiot. And Alaric ain't no idiot.]

[So, shouldn't all those rumor spreaders just zip it now? The official word is pretty clear.]

[If this is all true, then Alaric and Stellan are like a real-life prince and Cinderella. How sweet is that?]

Seeing the online chatter shift like this, Alaric felt a bit more chill.

"Mr. Knight, this whole mess should be mostly sorted. Once the buzz dies down in a few days, the safety inspection team can come back for another check. If everything's cool, the project can get back on track," Silas said. "Got it." Alaric nodded.

"Mr. Knight, are you planning to come back and oversee the work, or is Ms. Storm still handling it?" Silas asked carefully. "Even though this issue's been resolved, a lot of the higher-ups have serious problems with Ms. Storm." The company's success directly impacted these higher-ups' pockets, so they didn't want any screw-ups. The better the company did, the more they raked in.

So, they all hoped Alaric would come back to run things and let Stellan go back to being a doctor, staying out of company stuff.

"We'll talk about it later." Alaric needed to chat with Stellan before making any calls, as deciding on his own could hurt her feelings. "Understood, Mr. Knight," Silas said respectfully. "Mr. Knight, I need to write up a resumption application and check out the site."

Alaric said, "Go for it."

Silas added, "Okay, and Tommy's here, ready to go."

Alaric was confused. "Wasn't he hurt?"

Silas explained, "Yeah, but he showed up early this morning. I told him to go home and rest, but he wouldn't listen."

Hearing this, Alaric instructed, "Get him to my office, now."

Silas nodded. "Yes, Mr. Knight."

A few minutes after Silas left, Tommy knocked and walked into Alaric's office, saying respectfully, "Mr. Knight, you wanted to see me?" "Yeah." Alaric's face was stern, and Tommy couldn't meet his eyes, looking down instead.

"Did you call Stellan to the company yesterday?" Alaric's tone was sharp.

Tommy admitted, "Yeah, I did."

"Why'd you call her?" Alaric pressed.

Tommy explained, "I tried Mr. Nash first, but he was busy and didn't pick up. With all those reporters outside, it was messing with our operations, so I..."

Alaric's tone was serious, "I told you, all company matters go through me right now. If you couldn't reach Cormac, you should've contacted other higher-ups. If you couldn't get them, you should've called me directly. Why'd you call Stellan?" Feeling guilty, Tommy quickly explained, "I'm really sorry, Mr. Knight. It's my bad. Since I joined the company, I've always worked with Ms. Storm. When stuff went down, I just instinctively thought to call her. I'm sorry, Mr. Knight."
