Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 385 Trouble at Nexus Innovations

After Stellan wrapped up her statement, she and Alaric bounced outta the police station. Stellan hopped in the car first, while Alaric and Neil hung back a bit, chatting. "With Stellan's statement done, your mom's case is totally closed," Neil said.

"Yeah, I know, Neil. Thanks a ton," Alaric replied, genuinely grateful.

Neil just waved it off. "No need to thank me. Just hope you won't be bummed out anymore."

Alaric gave a nod.

"At Mrs. Knight's funeral, I saw Stuart and Ambrose. Stuart's dead set on thinking you offed Todd and hasn't even looked Ambrose's way. That guy's a real pro at faking it," Neil said. Alaric shrugged. "Doesn't matter what Stuart thinks. Ever since the Vale family snatched Stellan, it's been war between us."

"I get it, but don't do anything crazy," Neil warned.

Alaric forced a smile. "Chill, Neil. I won't."

Neil gave him a pat on the shoulder, and Alaric headed to the car, sliding into the driver's seat.

"You're wiped out, you shouldn't drive," Stellan said.

"It's cool," Alaric said, firing up the engine. Stellan just let it go.

They cruised back to the Knight Mansion. As soon as they got there, Stellan's phone buzzed. It was Tommy.

"Ms. Storm," Tommy reported, "There was a safety accident at the jewelry company's construction site. A worker fell and is in the hospital, getting emergency treatment." "What?" Stellan's heart skipped a beat. "A safety accident?"

Alaric grabbed the phone. "What happened, Tommy?"

Tommy quickly explained, "Mr. Knight, there was a safety accident at the jewelry company's construction site. The worker who fell is in the hospital, and we don't know the outcome yet." Alaric felt like he'd been hit by a truck. 'How could this happen? Nexus Innovations has never had any safety accidents. Why now?'

Alaric asked urgently, "Which hospital? I'm heading over now."

Tommy gave him the hospital details, and Alaric was ready to bolt. Stellan tried to stop him. "Alaric, you're not in good shape. Let me go."

"No way I'm sitting this out," Alaric said, brushing her off and heading out.

Stellan was about to follow when Tommy called again. "Ms. Storm, all the company's execs are here, waiting for you to hold a meeting." Stellan thought, 'A meeting? Of course, with such a big accident at Nexus Innovations' site, the execs must be freaking out.'

She had no choice but to rush back to the company, where Cormac was already waiting.

"Cormac, how did this happen?" Stellan asked, stressed.

Cormac kept it short. "Careless inspection. The elevator had a safety hazard."

Stellan asked, "So it's totally our company's fault? No individual screw-ups or outside factors?"

Cormac shook his head. Hearing this, Stellan felt really down and headed to the meeting room. The execs were losing it over the safety accident.

During the meeting, news came from the hospital that the worker who fell had died despite emergency treatment.

The safety accident was so bad that they had to shut down the project, and it didn't take long for the media to jump all over it.

"This is karma for Stellan killing Marigold, right? Just the day after the funeral, and now this. Poor Knight family."

"This is too weird. Stellan takes over Nexus Innovations from Marigold, then she kills Marigold, and now this? Hard not to see the coincidence."

Now, all the media vultures were camped out at the entrance of Nexus Innovations' HQ. Alaric had just gotten back from the hospital, and the dead worker's family was out front, holding a banner and crying their eyes out.

"We're really sorry, but no interviews today. We'll post an update on our website. No comments until we have results. Any media spreading rumors will face legal action!" Tommy was out there, blocking the reporters and laying down the law. The whole thing was being broadcast live by all the big news outlets, and Tommy's response was making the rounds. "Isn't that the young guy we saw at the funeral?" Stuart said.

Ambrose nodded. "Yeah, I've looked into it. His name's Tommy, Josep's nephew. He got the job at Nexus Innovations through Josep."

Stuart raised an eyebrow. "Josep's nephew? Seems pretty sharp."

"He's alright," Ambrose replied. "Marigold just died, and now Nexus Innovations has this huge mess. Some folks are saying it's divine retribution."

"Divine retribution?" Stuart laughed. "There's no such thing."

Hearing this and seeing Stuart's reaction, Ambrose was taken aback. 'What does this mean? Is this not a coincidence? Is Stuart involved? What about the one behind Stuart? Who's pulling the strings, and what kind of power do they have?' Back at Nexus Innovations, Alaric was running a tense meeting while Stellan was trying to console the dead worker's family.

Money wasn't the issue for Nexus Innovations. The real problem was the bad press. Alaric was fuming about the sloppy inspection, and the execs were too scared to say a word.

After Alaric's rant, the room was dead silent for a bit before the execs started chiming in.

"Mr. Knight, I don't think Ms. Storm is cut for the job. She pushed for the jewelry company and picked the construction firm. The project just started, and now this. The whole thing might get scrapped. You should take over."

"Yeah, Ms. Storm's only been in charge for a month, and look at this mess. There are still five months to go. When Far East International bid for the construction, Ms. Storm shut them down without consulting us. Far East International has a solid track record; they built our entertainment center without a hitch. Ms. Storm is too emotional and not fit to run a big international company."

"Exactly," the execs echoed.
