Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 358: You're Indeed Incompetent

Now that the jewelry gig was officially rolling, Alaric kept nagging Stellan to stay away from the construction site and let Silas handle it. But Cormac wasn't cool with Silas going solo, so he decided to check things out himself. Cormac spent the whole day poking around the site and only swung by Nexus Innovations at the end of the day to drop off his notes to Stellan.

Cormac said, "Here's the lowdown from today's site check. Spotted a few safety issues and already told the engineering head to fix 'em ASAP."

Stellan skimmed the report and said, "Cormac, you spent your first day back at the site? Must've been a drag."

Cormac shrugged, "Had to be done. Safety's a big deal and needs to be tight."

"Totally. With you on it, I can chill," Stellan said, putting down the report. "Did you drop Aurora at school?"

"Yeah," Cormac replied, then asked, "Did Caspian, Harry, and Elisa make it to school too?"

Stellan nodded. "Yep, Alaric's playing stay-at-home dad for the next six months, said he doesn't need a driver for school runs."

They had their roles down pat now. Alaric could kick back and recover at home, which made Stellan pretty stoked.

A stay-at-home dad? Stellan might be clueless, but Cormac knew better. If Alaric could really chill as a stay-at-home dad, Cormac wouldn't be stressing. But he couldn't spill that to Stellan. "Getting him to totally ditch work ain't easy," Cormac said. "Anyway, let's talk about the Vale Family. Heard Stuart's heading to Arizona soon." 'That crazy Stuart?'

Cormac added, "He blames you and Alaric for Todd's death. He's probably coming for payback. Watch your back."

Stellan replied, "I know. Last time at the hospital, he was bold as brass. He'll do anything."

Cormac remarked, "So be extra careful. It's easier to dodge attacks you can see coming. Stuart's goons are all loose cannons."

Stellan responded, "Got it. Don't sweat it, Cormac. I stick to home and the office, always got bodyguards. No more kidnapping drama." Cormac said, "Good to hear."

Cormac was right. Stuart had already buried Todd abroad but couldn't shake his grudge and decided to come back to Arizona.

On the day he landed, Ambrose went to pick him up at the airport. Stuart was flanked by Bill and a bunch of bodyguards in black. "Dad, you must be wiped after that long flight," Ambrose said, grabbing the suitcase from Bill.

Stuart grumbled, "I heard Nexus Innovations is starting a jewelry company."

Ambrose replied, "Yeah, they're on it."

"What have you been doing?" Stuart snapped. "Stellan's just a stand-in for Alaric. This is the perfect time to mess with Nexus Innovations. How'd you let them make such a big move?" Ambrose felt guilty. "Dad, chill. It's my bad."

"You're damn right it's your bad!" Stuart barked. Ambrose hung his head and trailed behind Stuart.

Stuart said, "I heard Alaric's getting better every day?"

Ambrose hung his head even lower, looking all kinds of guilty. "Yeah, he got real lucky. Heard Josep from the Institute of Medical Pioneers treated him personally." Stuart asked, "So, no one is affected at all expect Todd's dead?"

He already knew the deal. With no solid evidence, the case got closed quick, and Alaric and Stellan were still living it up.

Ambrose promised, "Dad, this is just a bump in the road. I won't let Todd's death be for nothing."

Stuart reminded him coldly, "Remember, you got six months."

"I know," Ambrose quickly and respectfully asked, "Dad, you've had a long flight. Should we hit the hotel first?"

"Let's head to the Vale Group first," Stuart said. "I wanna see how the jewelry and construction companies are holding up under your watch." Ambrose nodded. "Yes, Dad."

Bill took Stuart's luggage to the hotel while Stuart and Ambrose checked out the construction company and then the jewelry company.

After going through the accounts, Stuart was pretty pleased with the company's performance. Honestly, Ambrose was way better at this than Todd ever was.

Too bad Stuart had always looked down on Ambrose for being an illegitimate kid. If Todd had Ambrose's skills and steady vibe, it would've been perfect. Stuart remarked, "You're doing a decent job."

"Thanks, Dad," Ambrose said, not used to getting praise from Stuart.

Then Stuart looked around and asked, "Where's Denny? Isn't he usually glued to your side?"

Ambrose answered, "Denny's mom got seriously sick, and he quit a few days ago to go home."

Ambrose had been stressing about Denny lately. It was like he vanished into thin air, and his phone was always off.

Ambrose even sent people to Denny's hometown, but his family had already moved and were nowhere to be found.

Most likely, Alaric had Denny and his family under control. But with no moves from Alaric for days, Ambrose was getting anxious.

"Quit outta nowhere?" Stuart didn't buy it. "Denny's got big ambitions. He finally made it to executive assistant, and even if his mom was sick, he'd just take leave. Quit? No way."

"I don't get it either, but he did quit." Ambrose definitely couldn't tell Stuart the truth. If he did, Stuart would never let him off the hook.

"Denny's been with you for years. He's a trusted guy and knows a lot about our family. He should stay with us till the end. How'd you let him quit?" Stuart scolded.

Ambrose stated, "Dad, chill. Even though Denny's been with me for years, he doesn't know much. Even if he leaves, it's no big threat."

"Really?" Stuart clearly didn't buy it.

Ambrose nodded. "Yes."

Stuart squinted. "Since you're so sure, if Denny causes any trouble for our family, you'll take all the heat."

Ambrose thought, 'Take all the heat? Which mess is he talking about? The Storm Family's drama?'
