Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 35 If I Can't See My Son, Then We'll Go See Yours

This was the second time Galatea had been in the passenger seat of his car. She had unintentionally brought up Ambrose Vale earlier, and her emotions were still not fully settled.

Sitting in the car, she kept her gaze fixed outside the window, pretending the world beyond could distract. Alaric caught a brief look at her forlorn expression reflected in the rearview mirror, and for reasons he couldn't fathom why it tugged at his heartstrings.

Shaking off her gloom, she stepped out of the car, strangely eager about the meeting ahead. She was curious about what Alaric's son looked like. Could the boy resemble Harry so much that Alaric indulged in fantasies about Harry being his own child?

"Are you sure your son is at this school?" Galatea had been waiting with Alaric outside the school gates, and even as parents came and went with their children, there was still no sign of his son.

Galatea was beginning to suspect the worst. 'Was Alaric delusional again? Could it be that his son wasn't even at this school?'

Alaric glanced at his watch and decided to call Caspian's teacher directly. The teacher's response unsettled him, "Caspian was picked up by his grandfather. Didn't he inform you?" Caspian's grandfather? Griffon?

"No, he didn't, but thank you for letting me know," Alaric said before ending the call.

He dialed Griffon's number, and the man answered with a hasty apology. "Alaric, I completely forgot to mention I'd take Caspian home. Sorry, it made you take an unnecessary trip-I'm slipping in my old age, meant to call you but it slipped my mind."

"It's okay. May I ask what made you decide to pick up Caspian so suddenly?"

"I missed the boy. We live close to the school, and it seemed a shame for him to board when he could be with family. Let's have him stay over this weekend."

But Alaric couldn't shake a nagging hunch. If Caspian went to stay at the Nash family residence, Orion would be there, right? What if Caspian was provoked, leading to another one of his episodes?

"I understand you miss him, but you know about Caspian's condition. He's finally been doing better lately, and I'm worried seeing Orion might set him off again."

"Don't worry about that. Orion's away at a film shoot, and it's just me and your aunt at home. We'll take great care of Caspian."

After Griffon finished speaking, he handed the phone to Harry, sporting a warm, grandfatherly smile. "Here, Caspian, tell your dad you're staying at grandpa's now."

Harry, surprised to see an unfamiliar elderly gentleman picking him up today, realized it was Caspian's granddad and had no choice but to play along.

He wondered about the relationship between Caspian and his granddad. Judging by the old man's demeanor, it seemed alright. Harry didn't want to raise any suspicions, so he reassured Alaric over the phone, "Dad, I'm at Grandpa's house now. Don't worry, I'll be good."

Caspian's maturity took Alaric by surprise. This kid was suddenly being sensible.

"With Caspian saying that Alaric, I guess you can stop worrying, right?" Griffon chimed in.

"Yes," Alaric conceded, what else could he say? "Please take care of him."

Galatea also understood that Alaric's son had been picked up by Griffon.

That reminded her of why he had contacted her.

'He already spoke to Alaric on the phone. Why didn't he reveal my real identity?' she wondered.

Galatea couldn't guess Griffon's motives. Anyway, there was no real relationship between her and Alaric, so there was hardly any need to explain who she really was to him.

"Get in the car!" Alaric barked suddenly, snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked up just in time to see him climb into the SUV first.

Galatea had no choice but to follow him into the car. Once the engine roared to life, Alaric said, "Since I can't see my son, take me to meet yours."

"What? Meet my son?" Galatea was stunned by the request. "We aren't really a couple. Why do you want to meet my son?"

"What's the matter? Getting cold feet?" Alaric's tone carried a hint of mockery. "Last time you got caught out with my son at dinner, you made up a story about having a boy, when in fact you only have a daughter, right?" Galatea couldn't help but laugh at his words. That was the funniest joke she'd heard in her two-plus decades of life.

"Alaric, you're wasting your smarts not being an editor!" Galatea would have considered admitting him to a mental institution if it weren't for the lingering injuries he sustained on a mission.

"Lost your nerve?"

"How could I not dare?" said Galatea. "Today, I'll have my son tell you himself who I was really dining with that day!"

"Fine, I'm all ears for what your son has to say."

Alaric was starting to doubt this woman's intentions. Was she trying to climb the social ladder using his son, or was she delusional? Why else would she be so defiant and even accuse him of being the delusional one? So, Alaric drove to Galatea's current apartment, and true to her word, the arrival of his car sparked a spectacle amongst the residents.

Given the narrow lane, he couldn't drive all the way in, so he parked at the curbside, and they both got out.

Galatea called Harry and Elisa's phone, and Elisa answered, "Hey, mom!"

"Elisa, you're home, right?"

"Yeah."

"Good, I'll be home soon."

After hanging up, Elisa rushed to the window and saw Galatea and Alaric approaching the complex from afar.

"Harry, Harry! Come quick, look-mom's bringing that jerk home!"

Caspian hurried to the window and was shocked to see his dad. 'What's he doing here?! If Dad sees me now, I'm done for.'

"Elisa, you can't let on that I'm here. Do you hear me? Not a word!" And with that, Caspian ducked into the closet, leaving Elisa utterly bewildered. "Harry, what are you doing? Why are you hiding?"

"I'll explain later, but right now, you have to listen to me. They can't know I'm here. Understood?"

"Understood." Confused yet obedient, Elisa prepared to act.

Hearing a knock, Elisa quickly opened the door to greet Galatea and Alaric with her squinty-eyes and adorable smile.

"Hi, mom. Mr. Knight." Despite having labeled him a sleazebag, manners dictated she greets him courteously as Mr. Knight.

"Where are Mia and Harry?" Galatea asked, noticing only Elisa was present.

"Mia went grocery shopping, and Harry went out to play basketball," Elisa lied on the spot. 'Harry's out playing basketball? Since when does he play it? How could she not know?'
