Selena shot him a frosty glance and walked right past him, treating him like he was invisible, heading straight for the taxi ahead. She opened the door, hopped in, and the taxi pulled away in one smooth motion. Sitting in the passenger seat, Alex clicked her tongue softly, not daring to look back at her boss's face. She asked in a whisper, "Mr. Everett, should we follow her?"

Everett remained calm, his handsome face untroubled as he elegantly adjusted his cuff. "No need. She'll come to me," he said, rolling up the window with a barely-there smile. "Let's head back to the office."

Alex couldn't help but marvel silently. Time really does change a person. Three years ago, Mr. Everett wouldn't have had the patience for this cat-and-mouse game with Ms. Selena. Back then, he'd have been more direct-probably even forceful.

Now, he'd finally learned to respect others. Josh was pretty sharp to have used time and distance to mellow Mr. Everett out, making him more grounded. After all, life's not just about taking what you want by force. But who knows if Ms. Selena is ready to accept this new version of him?

Selena spent the whole day at the hospital with her uncle. Even knowing the surgery had a fifty percent success rate, he was still worried. "What if I die on the operating table?" he fretted, tears in his eyes, as he began discussing how to divide his assets with Selena-one part for his wife, one for his son, and one for Selena.

To calm him down, Selena reluctantly shared some hopeful news. If they could get Dr. Fernando to do the surgery, the success rate could jump to eighty percent. She assured him, "Don't worry for now."

Brook's eyes lit up. "Can you really get him?" He wasn't naive; top-notch doctors like Dr. Fernando didn't just work for money. It often took connections. Without Everett, her powerful ex-husband, where would she get those connections?

Selena was momentarily speechless. That afternoon, she tried calling Dr. Fernando several times, but as usual, his phone was off. Actually, ever since seeing Everett that morning, she had a feeling about things but couldn't quite shake it off.

Facing her uncle's hopeful gaze, she managed a smile, "Of course, haven't you always said I can handle anything?"

"Yes, yes, yes..." Brook said, rubbing his hands together. "My Selena is the best. With you here, I can rest easy."

That evening, when Ricky came by, Brook found the energy to joke around teasing Ricky that his sister was tougher than him. Since getting sick, Ricky had been more patient, not arguing back. FindNovel

Ricky walked Selena out of the hospital, telling her to sleep in since it was the weekend. He noticed her dark circles and teased, "You look a

bit rough; get some beauty sleep."

Selena playfully smacked him on the forehead. "I'll give you a chance to rephrase that!"

"Okay, okay, I was wrong. My sister is the most beautiful in the world!"

Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Everett: "How about dinner together? You still owe me a candlelit dinner." Her brows furrowed. Ricky snatched the phone, looking displeased. "Sis, you're not still hung up on that jerk, are you?"

Ricky had always rooted for Selena

and her favorite, Callum. He couldn't believe how quickly Everett had sniffed out her return and come running back. After all, his sister had been crazy about Everett before, and he worried she might fall for his sweet talk again.

"Don't be ridiculous," Selena said, grabbing her phone back. She didn't explain further, not wanting to trigger Ricky's impulsive side like before.
