Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1553
Casey was so brazen, you could say he was practically flaunting it. After dropping that bombshell, he just went back to his script, like he hadn't just said something totally outrageous.
Aubree felt like she was in a fog, caught up in a strange vibe. Imagine a world-famous director, fully aware that his just-turned-legal son is mixed up with an actress, and instead of shutting it down, he gives her a nudge on his son's behalf. When Aubree got back to her seat, she was still trying to process it all. Then her phone buzzed-it was Matthew calling.
"Aubree, have you eaten dinner yet?"
She replied, "Just about to."
"I tried calling earlier but couldn't get through. Were you filming? I asked my dad to remind you, not sure if he did."
"Mr. Casey did mention it."
"Good to hear."
Holding the phone, Aubree suddenly felt tongue-tied, although her mind was racing.
Did Mr. Casey know about her and Matthew? Did he think she was robbing the cradle? But she couldn't bring herself to say any of it.
Matthew also went quiet for a moment before asking, "Did my dad give you a hard time? That old fossil!"
He grumbled a bit.
"No, Mr. Casey just reminded me to eat, nothing else," Aubree quickly reassured him.
Matthew sighed with relief. Thank goodness his dad hadn't messed things up. If he had, risking his chance with her, Matthew would've sworn off going home forever.
"Make sure you eat well. I might be stuck here for a week; hit a bit of trouble."
Aubree wanted to ask if it was serious, but knowing she couldn't help, she just hung up.
After wrapping up the day's shoot, sure enough, people began nosing around about her and Matthew.
"Aubree, isn't Mr. Casey's son pretty young?"
"Yeah, are you into younger guys? Can't see Mr. Casey being cool with that."
"Was Mr. Casey warning you earlier?"
In the entertainment world, real friends are rare. Plus, with her ties to the Clements family, Aubree was somewhat of an insider, so most stars didn't bother mingling with her. But with a young man involved, curiosity was piqued.
Aubree brushed off the questions and retreated to her trailer. Back home, she got an unexpected dessert delivery from the hotel.
"Miss Aubree, it's low-sugar, so you won't gain weight."
The fancy dessert sat on the coffee table as Aubree eyed her phone, which inevitably rang-it was Matthew again.
"Did you get the dessert? I had the chef make it low-sugar, with a bit of his own sleep aid mix. You should sleep well, I know you've struggled with that."
Aubree didn't want to owe him, especially accepting his kindness like this. If she wasn't interested, she should've made it clear from the start. "Matthew, I-"
"Aubree, you're always stuck in the past. How can anyone love you like that? Just give me a chance, I'm a better fit for you than Andrew." Matthew stared at his computer screen, his eyes sore from a long day.
"I found something about your parents, but Rm afraid the truth might be too much for you. I wanted to force you to give up on Andrew but I couldn't. I'm not that great. Knowing you weren't happy with him, I should've stepped in sooner."
Aubree held her breath, clutching the phone. She was suddenly unsure of his intentions. Had they met before? But she couldn't recall.
"Aubree, will you still be with
Andrew? The Clements family doesn't like you, and he's stuck
between you and their affection. No
matter how strong love is, it fades over time. Before he figures out
where his loyalties lie, could you give
me a chance, even if it's just a trial run?"
Aubree, who seemed so carefree, was actually the softest at heart. It's just that, until now, all her soft spots were reserved for Andrew.
