Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1524
Casey was all about fairness when it came to auditioning actresses. It didn't matter if you were a big-name star or just starting out; everyone had to draw a number and wait their turn to perform.
Julia was ahead of Aubree in line, and judging by the grin on her face as she walked out, she must have nailed her audition. Meanwhile, Aubree had been hanging around for three long hours before they finally called her number.
As she stepped inside, Casey handed her the script. Her eyes lit up as she read the synopsis: a gripping story about a female scientist who, despite facing doubt and adversity, climbs to the top of her field. Along the way, her intense dedication causes her to develop a split personality. It was an inspiring tale of female empowerment and the isolation that can accompany personal growth-topics always worth digging into. Casey had clearly picked a winner, aiming for the next big award with this one.
Aubree took a deep breath, ready to dive into her performance, when the sound of footsteps broke her concentration. She glanced over to see a young guy, maybe eighteen or nineteen, whose looks could stop traffic. Casey's stern look melted away the second he saw the kid. "What are you doing here, kiddo? I'm in the middle of auditions," he said, half-chiding.
Matthew, lounging with his phone, looked like he was deep into a game. "Just wanted to see how you run things. Plus, I'm a fan of Aubree. Wanted to catch her audition," he replied, eyes still glued to his screen. Casey gave him a light smack on the head. "You rascal!" he said, though his eyes were full of affection.
Turning back to Aubree, Casey nodded for her to continue. Luckily, she was quick to gather her emotions and started her performance without missing a beat.
The moment she began, Matthew put his phone away and watched her intently.
After she finished, Casey nodded approvingly. "In the world of actresses, your performance is top-tier. We'll be in touch."
"Thank you, Mr. Casey," Aubree said, nodding as she prepared to leave. But then Matthew stood up.
"Aubree," he called, pulling out a pen like he'd planned it all along. "Could I get your autograph?"
Aubree was surprised; she thought he was kidding about being a fan. But seeing his genuine interest, she smiled and took the pen. "Of course."
She signed her name, and then Matthew went for it: "Are you free tonight? How about dinner?"
With Casey right there, and
considering how much she loved the script, Aubree knew she couldn't say no. Plus, Matthew wasn't your
typical spoiled rich kid. He hadeln
air of someone who'd been doted on, but it wasn't off-putting.
Casey added, "This kid's watched your movies countless times. He's a huge fan."
The way the conversation was heading, refusing wasn't an option without risking her shot. Everyone knew Casey doted on Matthew, his pride and joy.
"I'm free," she replied.
As they hopped in the elevator, Matthew asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"
Aubree shook her head, and Matthew grinned. "I just turned eighteen last month."
Thrown off by his question, Aubree smoothly responded, "Should I get Mr. Matthew a belated birthday gift?"
Matthew's eyes brightened with youthful excitement. "Wouldn't that be too much?"
"Not at all. Let's call it a friendship gift."
When they reached the ground floor, Aubree told her agent to head off while she took the wheel. "I've got a restaurant booked. What are you in the mood for, Mr. Matthew?
"I'm easygoing, not picky at all," he replied.
Aubree chuckled, thinking to herself, boys will be boys.
