Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1435
Mason made his way to Chinatown to pick up some spirit money, which he then burned in the room for his mom.
"She was truly wonderful."
All his emotions boiled down to that one sentence.
On the day Mason laid Everett to rest, Lewis somehow caught wind of it and suggested they grab a drink.
Honestly, Mason wasn't too thrilled about it. But with his flight scheduled for the next day, and the thought of spending another night alone in his tiny apartment, he figured meeting up with Lewis was the lesser of two evils. When Lewis saw Mason, he was taken aback.
In such a short time, Mason had lost a tonne of weight, and exhaustion was etched into his features.
"Is Tiffanie still giving you a hard time?"
Mason nodded, managing a tired smile.
Lewis knew all about Tiffanie's situation and rubbed his temples with concern.
"Still not cooperating with her doctor?"
"She was willing before, but now she's not."
"Mason, you need to see a doctor yourself. You look worn out. You can't keep on like this."
Mason knew this too well. Even after coming to North America, sleep had been elusive. The only peace he found was in the brief moments he talked to Tiffanie on the phone.
Lewis, while cleaning his glasses, spoke the harsh truth.
"Have you thought about how being
tangled up with someone like her could steal your peace? Most of us crave tranquility and happiness. We look for partners who are equals, supportive, not burdens. But
Tiffanie... she doesn't fit that mold."
If Mason had other family or friends, Tiffanie wouldn't even be in the running for a partner.
It was one thing for her not to care about living, but she was dragging Mason down with her. That was the reality.
"If love can't heal, it only makes things worse. In the end, Mason, it'll drag you down too."
"If you don't love her that much,
maybe it's time to let go," Lewis continued, his voice calm. "I see my
paston you. My girlfriend als ed
depression."
Mason blinked, surprised, looking up at the man who seemed so put together. Lewis had finished cleaning his glasses and put them back on.
"It wasn't as severe as Tiffanie's. She just avoided socializing, preferred to stay home alone. We met in college, and I really loved her. My family's well-off, and had a good job. She Thad could've easily been a homemaker. But her mood swings were
unbearable. Every day, I'd come bet
home to her breakdowns. She was so needy, throwing fits whenever I was away. Balancing work and her was exhausting, plus her family drama didn't help. They were always fighting, making her even more irritable. I only lasted a year before I couldn't bear going home. I thought I'd miss her, but when she moved out, I felt this huge relief, like I was finally starting fresh. My career soared without someone constantly crying or dumping negativity on me. She was the most dramatic person I've ever met."
Lewis frowned as he recalled those days.
"Breaking up was the best decision I ever made. Maybe someone else could help her, but it definitely wasn't me."
Mason stayed quiet, staring at his drink.
"So, Mason, I hope you can cut your losses in time. I've heard about your family; with both parents gone, you're free. Why tie yourself down?" Lewis was the picture of rationality, refusing any deviation from his life's plan.
Just as Mason was about to speak, a woman from the next table stood up and drenched Lewis with her coffee.
