Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1396
"Yeah, just a young girl, Tiffanie, I think that's her name. I tried to get her to see our hospital's psychologist, but she flat-out refused. I've been worried sick all day, but there's only so much I can do. Someone determined to self-destruct isn't something I can fix with my own
two hands.
Lewis seemed to be venting, but he noticed Mason's grip on his spoon tighten until his knuckles turned white.
"She has severe depression?"
"Uh, yeah. Her wrists are covered in scars from cutting. It must have been mild before, but now it's severe. I've never seen someone so desperate to die, so I made a note of her name. She's also dealing with domestic violence. She came in with a swollen face, a perforated stomach, and bruises all around her neck from being strangled. Not sure if it was her family who did it."
Mason's eyelashes fluttered down, his fingertips trembling.
Tiffanie didn't have much family in North America. When they were together, she didn't really have a job, just quietly waiting at home for him to return, or sometimes helping out at the Unicorn Café. They were practically inseparable.
Back then, she used to call Max "Maxie," but now there hadn't been any contact. Otherwise, it wouldn't have come to this.
After finishing his piece, Lewis didn't look at Mason but waved over a waiter to order.
"Mason, what's up? Trouble at the office? You seem out of sorts."
Mason didn't respond. During their meal, they reminisced about their days on the school basketball team.
Then Lewis got a call about some emergency surgery he had to perform.
"Sorry, gotta head back to the hospital."
Mason nodded, stayed put, finding the setting sun glaringly bright.
He shielded his eyes, feeling as if his feet had taken root, unsure of what to do next.
Severe depression?
How could Tiffanie have severe depression?
After learning about her identity, he had some folks in Beaconsfield dig into her past.
All he found was her spending money on this male star, on that male model, never a hint of unhappiness.
So what was all this about depression?
Mason found it almost laughable.
Even more ridiculous was how he felt affected by the news.
Never having suffered, so she resorts to claiming severe depression as an excuse. There are far more people in the world who have reasons to be depressed than her

She lived it up in Beaconsfield; no way she became severely depressed after coming to North America.
By now, even a homeless guy could make a move on her.
Had he not intervened, in that filthy, chaotic alley, she probably would have ended up beneath some dirty man like a dog. Mason closed his eyes, feeling nauseous at the thought, finding it absurd that this woman was his first love.
He took a deep breath, signaling himself to shake off these emotions, then grabbed his coat, deciding to head home.
He had bought a villa in North
America, but it felt too empty. Lately,
he'd been so buried in work, he
practically lived in his office's rest
area.

Back home, he tossed his coat aside and took a shower. By the time he came out, it was already dark.
Sitting at his computer, he
to check on some work stuff, but found himself unconsciously searching for symptoms of severe depression.
What's it like for someone with severe depression?
Can severe depression be cured?
After searching through seven or eight queries, he realized what he was doing and quickly shut the browser.
Mason's fingertips trembled slightly as he felt both a headache and a sharp pain in his chest.
