Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 73
? ? ? ? ?
At the hospital.
"Raegan, I blame myself... You have suffered a lot taking care of me."
Raegan's grandmother said, her eyes filling with tears. His emotional vulnerability had increased over the years.
«Don't worry, grandmother. You have always been there for me. "Now it's my turn to take care of you," Raegan replied, her eyes also moist.
Brent was an asshole. He rarely spent time with his family. To ensure that Raegan could go to school, Raegan's grandmother had taken various jobs, from picking up trash to selling snacks. As a result, leaving the hospital now seemed almost impossible after the exhaustion of all these years.
«My only fear is that if something happens to me, there will be no one to take care of you. And you're not married yet, so I won't be able to rest in peace," Raegan's grandmother confessed.
Wiping away her tears, Raegan said, “Grandma, stop talking like that. You're going to live a long time. Didn't you tell me that one day we would return to your house together?
A ray of hope illuminated his eyes.
"Could we really go back?" he whispered.
"Of course. Although Brent sold it, it remains empty. "I have rented it and I plan to buy it again as soon as I can afford it."
Raegan assured him.
Raegan's grandmother grabbed Raegan's hands with joy and said, "Well, that's wonderful."
She hesitated before adding, “Raegan, I'm not sure I'll live to see that day. Last night I dreamed about your father. I felt like he was looking forward to seeing me in heaven. "I suspect I'm running out of time."
Tears escaped Raegan's eyes despite her efforts to hold them back.
Raegan's grandmother handed her a red paper bag containing a padlock-shaped amulet.
«You had it when you were a girl. Keep it with you. May he bless you the rest of your life.
Her words hit Raegan like a goodbye, causing Raegan to hug her grandmother tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.
«Grandma, I've actually been married for a while. "It's a complicated situation, that's why I didn't bring it up."
Her grandmother looked stunned.
"When did this happen?"
Raegan told the entire story, deliberately omitting the contractual nature of their marriage.
Concluding, Raegan said, "Anyway, he's someone I've cared about for a long time. He will come to visit you when he returns from his business trip.
Night had fallen when he left the nursing home.
Raegan returned to Serenity Villas.
Reflecting on the conversation with her grandmother, she texted Mitchel to ask if she had reached her destination.
Raegan had checked her flight schedule before sending him the message.
After a long wait, he was finally able to fall asleep.
At dawn, his phone came to life.
Still dazed, Raegan heard Mitchel's voice.
"Honey, have I interrupted your sleep?"
Mitchel's voice sounded clear and melodious through the phone.
Still sleepy, Raegan replied, "Are you done working?"
"More or less. "I've been overwhelmed, so I could only call you."
The sound of footsteps echoed from his side. Raegan asked, "Are you going back to the hotel?"
"Yeah. Do you want to accompany me? » Mitchel joked.
For some reason, Raegan felt that since they had reconciled, their relationship had taken a romantic turn.
Before, their privacy had always been limited to the bedroom.
"So you'll be back soon, right?" Raegan turned around as she spoke.
There was a brief pause before Mitchel answered, "Raegan, are you trying to seduce me?"
Hearing that, Raegan was shocked.
"That?"
“I wish I could teleport and sleep with you right now.”
Raegan's jaw dropped at Mitchel's words. He looked at his phone and realized they were on a video call.
She was wearing silk pajamas that highlighted her figure impeccably.
She looked voluptuous and tempting on the video call.
Meanwhile, Mitchel was unbuttoning his shirt, his voice hoarse.
"Is it me or has your chest grown lately?"
Instantly, Raegan's cheeks turned crimson and she pulled the quilt up to her chin.
Unwavering, Mitchel continued: “I suspected it ever since we kissed in the office. Has all the weight risen to your chest?
Remembering their passionate kiss that day, Raegan was left speechless with embarrassment. Nervous and irritated, she shouted, "Mitchel!"
“Now you should call me honey,” Mitchel insisted.
Realizing Raegan wouldn't do it over the phone, he added, "I'll make sure you do it when I get back." So for now you're off the hook."
Just as Raegan was about to share the day's events, the hotel bell interrupted them.
Mitchel approached the door and spoke in a foreign language to someone outside. His tone changed, becoming serious. Raegan couldn't understand what he was saying, as she had put the phone aside.
Shortly after, he said, “Okay, go rest. "I have to go."
Mitchel hastily ended the video call.
Raegan was sober now. He mentally replayed the phone conversation. He thought he heard something about a young woman looking for Mitchel.
Although she wasn't sure, a wave of unease washed over her.
After lying in bed for a while, her phone rang again. It was Nicole, who was inviting her to eat.
Walking into the restaurant, Raegan was surprised to see Nicole sporting a new hairstyle.
"Have you cut your hair?"
"You don't like it?" Nicole asked, stroking her freshly cut hair.
"It's different, but impressive."
Although Nicole had always looked gorgeous with long hair, her new shorter look gave her a more daring aura. It gave him an air of hardness.
Sensing Nicole's somber attitude, Raegan asked, "Are you worried about something?"
"Not much. Someone once promised to marry me when my hair reached my waist. Now that he's gone, I've cut it off," Nicole responded, with a smile tinged with bitterness.
Aware of the man Nicole was alluding to, Raegan was speechless and silent.
Has Mitchel been out of the country recently? Nicole changed the subject unexpectedly.
Surprised, Raegan stammered, "How did you know?"
Nicole had been worried about Jarrod lately and didn't know that Raegan had reconciled with Mitchel.
"I saw it in Lauren's posts."
Raegan felt her heart plummet.
Struggling to maintain her composure, Raegan asked, "On what platform?"
Nicole pulled out her phone and navigated to Lauren's home page, showing a selfie of Lauren wearing a light-colored beret, seemingly in a good mood.
The caption read: "So excited that someone came to pick me up at the airport." It had also tagged its overseas location.
The post had been uploaded just half an hour after Mitchel ended his video call with Raegan.
Also, Raegan realized that Mitchel was the one carrying Lauren's suitcase in the back. Although the photo only showed a side profile, she knew immediately that it was him.
Comments from mutual friends praised them, declaring them an ideal couple.
Lauren responded with a smiling emoji.
To the circle of friends they shared, Mitchel and Lauren seemed made for each other.
Struggling to find her voice, Raegan felt as if her heart had been pierced.
Watching Raegan's expression change, Nicole believed that sometimes sharp, immediate pain was preferable to prolonged agony.
After a moment of silence, Nicole said, “Do you know what the hardest thing in the world is, Raegan? Lauren will always be Mitchel's muse, his eternal comfort. Even if he shows concern for you now, the moment something happens to Lauren, you will have to politely step away. Because in his heart, you will always be the second option.
It was the same story with Jarrod and Jamie. Despite Jamie's tarnished reputation, Jarrod still spent effort and time protecting her. And it all came down to one reason.
After eating, the driver took Raegan home, while Nicole planned to return alone.
She soon realized that she had left her purse behind. He quickly returned to retrieve it, also making a quick detour to the bathroom.
It was then that she saw a familiar figure not far from her.
Jarrod and Jamie had also chosen this place to eat. It looked like they had just arrived and were heading to a chamber.
As they moved in her direction, Nicole looked down, her nerves getting the best of her. He almost collided with Jarrod.
"Be careful!" His refined voice filled his ears.
Jarrod grabbed Nicole's arm, stroking it briefly with his thumb before releasing her.
Nicole's heart was pounding in her chest. She didn't understand why Jarrod touched her so openly, especially in front of his fiancée.
He composed himself and managed to say, “Thank you.”
And he headed to the bathroom.
Jamie looked at Jarrod and Nicole, then commented in a tone audible to Nicole, "You guys like to play dangerous games, right?"
Nicole's complexion froze.
Nicole looked quite refreshing with short hair.
Jarrod's eyes moved away from Nicole, his voice still soft but now icy cold.
«You understand what it is like. "We men find a certain attraction in wild women."
These words stung like a slap to Nicole's face.
With a radiant smile, Jamie said nothing more and walked up the stairs with Jarrod.
In the bathroom, Nicole splashed cold water on her face as tears escaped her eyes.
Nicole was not despondent. He only felt that he had disgraced the Lawrence family. In fact, news spread that he had selflessly put himself at risk to save his family.
It was rumored that for the sake of the Lawrence family's interests, she would do anything.
At this moment, the bathroom door burst open.
Nicole grabbed her bag and prepared to leave after wiping her face.
He turned around and found himself staring at Jarrod. The surprise left her momentarily speechless.
Jarrod's intense gaze filled her with fear. His mind froze and he wished he could run away on the spot.
The next moment, Jarrod grabbed her wrist and secured the door with his other hand.
"What are you doing? Nicole asked, her voice tinged with fear.
Raising an eyebrow, Jarrod led her towards the sink.
He raised her hands and looked at her with disdain.
«You have deliberately collided with me. You were looking for it, right?
