Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 71
? ? ? ? ?
Mitchel had long been intimidating Raegan with his thin lips, forcing her to address him affectionately as honey on multiple occasions.
Before getting out of the car, Mitchel straightened Raegan's outfit, his gaze fixed on her. "Take good care of yourself," he said with a hoarse voice. "I'll be back in a few days and we can continue where we left off."
A blush appeared on Raegan's face when she heard him.
Mitchel was still recovering from his injuries, and doctors advised him not to engage in strenuous activities for at least a week.
However, he demanded it almost daily. To aid his recovery, Raegan promised to grant his wishes as long as he followed medical advice.
He had even consulted the doctor. It would be fine for them to kiss as long as the movements were not too violent during those two months.
If he insisted, she would beg Mitchel to take it slow and gentle.
Arriving at the nursing home, Raegan noticed the disheveled nurse, Kendra, sitting outside the room, her face half swollen. When Kendra saw her, tears came to her eyes.
“Miss Hayes, I was just about to call you. A man claiming to be a relative tried to feed the patient cake. When I resisted, he grabbed my head and slapped me."
Raegan's expression changed radically.
He gave Kendra money and reassured her: “I'm so sorry, Kendra. Why don't you go see a doctor while I take care of the rest?
Accepting the money, Kendra broke down, too shy to make a scene.
"I'm not sure I can take care of your grandmother anymore."
Desperate, Raegan negotiated, “Kendra, you've done a great job taking care of my grandmother. I trust your abilities. And I am truly sorry for the damage you received when you did your job. I promise you that I will solve the problem as soon as possible. Furthermore, I will even increase your salary by three thousand a month. Is that okay with you?
Reflecting for a while, Kendra felt convinced. Raegan's grandmother, despite her illness, was easy to deal with.
Plus, quitting could mean losing an employer as supportive as Raegan.
He paused before stating, “Mrs. Hayes, the extra money is not necessary. "I will stay and continue taking care of your grandmother."
After saying this, he went to the pharmacy to get medicine.
Opening the door, Raegan found her grandmother's room in disarray. The floor was littered with broken glass and crumpled sheets.
Her uncle, Brent Hayes, was standing next to the bed, aggressively smearing cake on her grandmother's face.
"Damn! Eat this! “You have to eat it all,” he shouted.
Raegan's grandmother moaned in pain due to her fragile state.
Enraged, Raegan couldn't believe Brent would treat his own mother like this.
Without a second thought, he grabbed a cup from the nightstand and threw it at Brent's head.
Bang!
Brent yelped as the cup hit his head.
"Fuck! Who do you think you are to hit me? Grabbing his head, Brent roared.
Wiping away the blood from the corner of his eye, he saw Raegan looking at him.
“Brent, get out of my sight right now. "Or I'll call the police."
Raegan warned.
“Call them, I dare you!” Brent replied, his eyes defiant.
«You are the one who attacked me, and I am here visiting my mother. Who do you think you are?
Just then, Kendra ran in. Seeing Raegan's grandmother's face covered in cake, she quickly began to clean it with tissues.
Meanwhile, Raegan's grandmother weakly admonished, "You bastard! Don't bully Raegan.
Brent touched his head and then giggled menacingly.
«Mom, it's clear that you don't see things well. Who bullies who? "I'm not going anywhere until you make it up to me."
At this, Raegan's grandmother almost faints with rage.
Feeling sorry for her grandmother, Raegan chimed in: "Brent, let's take this outside."
Brent, thinking that Raegan would pay him a considerable sum, immediately followed her. They left the room and stopped in the hallway.
“What the hell are you thinking?” Raegan got to the point.
With a cheeky grin, Brent replied, “Look, Raegan. All I'm looking for is compensation. Once it is solved, I will not blame you for the injury.
Raegan raised an eyebrow.
«You sold my grandmother's house for a million dollars. What happens to that large amount of money?
«I have spent it all. I have a business to run. Just drop five hundred thousand. When I make a profit, I will pay you back double."
Scoffing, Raegan replied, “A business? Do you mean the game?
Brent's expression changed.
“What are you talking about?”
"I had to change my grandmother's number because your creditors kept bothering her."
Caught in his lie, Brent smiled cheekily.
«Okay, I play from time to time. But now I'm really in business. Hand over the money and you'll never hear from me again, I promise."
But Raegan wasn't convinced at all. Brent had a history of deceit and recklessness. He had been a troublemaker since he was young, causing trouble here and there.
He had become a middle-aged gambler and had sold his grandmother's house without telling her, leaving her homeless.
Worse yet, he had spent a million dollars in one month.
It was a bottomless pit of money.
«Brent, my father also owns the house you sold. Since you sold it for a million, half is mine. If you promise not to bother us again, we're at peace. Otherwise… I will sue you and get my five hundred thousand back,” Raegan stated firmly.
Grabbing Raegan's arm, Brent shoved her violently.
"Bitch! Do you think you can take me to court? I'm going to make things clear to you right now!
The force of it staggered Raegan, whose hand grabbed the wall to keep from falling.
“You either give me the damn money, or I'll make sure you never see tomorrow,” Brent hissed menacingly.
"I don't have money to give you."
«Oh, don't play innocent. You're involved with a rich guy, right?
I have seen your car. It's worth a fortune. So don't tell me you're short of money.
"That?" Raegan questioned.
Brent shot Raegan a venomous look and commented, “Don't play dumb with me. I saw you approach his car. Now you tell me you don't have money, bitch!
Raegan didn't expect Brent to have been watching her for long. She blurted out, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Making her impatience worse, Brent cut her off: “Enough chatter. Will you give me the money or not?
«Not even in dreams! "I won't give you a cent."
Their heated exchange immediately attracted the attention of curious onlookers.
At this moment, an elegant man dressed in a gray suit came down a nearby staircase.
His eyes blinked nonchalantly at the commotion.
Her assistant was quick to clarify: "It seems that the young woman is involved with a rich man. "A relative has found out and demands money."
Upon hearing this, Hector responded apathetically: "That doesn't concern us."
An elegant black luxury car was waiting for them at the entrance. The assistant opened the door and motioned for Hector to enter.
Once seated, he slowly rolled up the window.
Taking another look, she saw Brent slapping Raegan and roughly pulling her hair, making her look quite disheveled.
When Brent grabbed her again, her face took on a red, swollen look. She seemed totally dejected.
"Stop the car!" The normally unflappable Hector sounded unexpectedly urgent.
The driver stopped the car immediately. Héctor got out of the car and slowly approached the scene.
Raegan looked noticeably frail, her hair matted.
Enraged, Brent grabbed Raegan's hair again. Raising his hand, he shouted, “Today I will discipline you in the name of your mother. Offend me again and I will sell you for money.
However, before Brent could slap Raegan again, his hand was held firmly by Hector.
Hector was tall, his height shielding him from the dazzling sunlight, and his eyes met Raegan's as he took down Brent.
“Miss, do you need help?”
