"Who is going to pay me money?" the driver shouted.

Just then, Matteo intervened to defuse the situation and told the driver: "Sir, come with me, please."

Sitting in the back seat, Raegan felt dazed.

A crash of thunder made her flinch.

I thought I had accepted that Mitchel and Lauren were in a relationship. However, seeing them together in bed had devastated her to the point of almost driving her crazy.

How pathetic she was! She had even tried to fool herself into thinking she was fine. How ironic it was that his life was like this.

Raegan had promised herself she would stop worrying about Mitchel, but that was easier said than done.

It was very painful for him. He had tried his best to control himself, but it had been in vain.

And then, out of nowhere, there was a crashing noise.

The car stopped suddenly. If she hadn't fastened her seatbelt, Raegan would have been catapulted out of her seat.

After the car stopped, the driver shouted at the vehicle in front: "Have you gone crazy? How could you drive like that?

Under the downpour, a tall, imposing man walked towards Raegan.

He threw open the back door and stared at Raegan without blinking. The next instant, his gaze turned icy.

“Get out of the car,” he ordered in an authoritative voice.

Raegan was surprised. She didn't expect Mitchel to chase after her.

He stood there, soaked to the skin, with the rain running down his long eyelashes. Even in those conditions, he still looked attractive.

Seeing that Raegan remained silent, Mitchel directly grabbed her hand.

Raegan was stunned for a split second and then shook off her grip.

"Mr. Dixon, I should come back.

Undeterred, Mitchel didn't let go of her and instead looked deep into her eyes.

"Then why did you come to the hospital to see me?"

Raegan's eyes clouded over. He stubbornly looked away and replied, "I wasn't there to see you."

Mitchel didn't seem to believe it and got to the point.

«Well, why did you run away? Are you jealous? You still have feelings for me, right?

Raegan pursed her lips. She reminded herself not to expect love from Mitchel, or she would only end up disappointed.

"Don't get me wrong, Mr. Dixon. What do you expect me to do after seeing such a scene? "Shall I stay for the encore?"

The rain intensified, and the driver's patience was beginning to wear thin.

«Have you finished? I have to make a living, you know?

Mitchel pulled out her purse and threw a large amount of money at the driver. He gave her a cold look and asked, "Is that enough?"

The driver was speechless. The amount he had just received was more than enough to cover the fee. It was equivalent to his monthly income.

The driver smiles and says, “It's pouring rain. Sir, why don't you get in the car while you talk to her?

Take your time".

"You!" Raegan uttered in disbelief. He was left speechless by what Mitchel had just done. He frowned as he realized he couldn't compete with Mitchel when it came to money. Forget it.

“Sorry, you're blocking my way,” Raegan said sternly to Mitchel.

"I'm not moving," he replied flatly.

«Mr. Dixon, don't waste your precious time on me. Go back to Miss Murray.

As Raegan said this, her eyes were emotionless, as if the man before her was a stranger.

For some reason, this ignited a spark of anger in Mitchel, and he questioned, "Do you really want me to get back with her?"

"Yeah". Raegan nodded firmly.

"Good!" Mitchel, without wasting a moment, slammed the door and walked away.

As Raegan watched his retreating figure, her heart ached. He felt like he had contracted some kind of strange disease that got worse every time he fought with Mitchel.

Raegan wanted to say something else. But instead he just turned his face and motioned for the driver to get going.

Just as the engine began to roar, the rear door burst open.

Mitchel returned, pinned her against the seat and began kissing her passionately.

For a moment, Raegan's mind went blank. She instinctively tried to dodge, but Mitchel had her by the chin, giving her no chance to escape.

Raegan was almost suffocated by the kiss and wanted to flee, but Mitchel's hand was like an iron clamp, leaving her helpless.

Soon his lips felt numb and sore.

Mitchel was soaked from the rain. But when their bodies pressed together, Raegan could feel the warmth of his.

The opposite sensations of hot and cold seemed to awaken his desire.

Although the driver was no longer young, the scene unfolding in his back seat worried him. Unable to do anything, he just closed his eyes and pretended he didn't see anything.

The silence in the car made the sounds of their intimacy even more audible.

Just as Raegan was about to moan in pain, Mitchel loosened his grip on her chin.

Then, he placed half of his body on top of Raegan's.

Almost instinctively, Raegan hugged Mitchel, but a feeling of unease washed over her.

It was then that he noticed the blood oozing from the back of his neck and dripping onto his hand.

His eyes shot open and he said to the driver in a trembling voice, “Take us to the hospital. Hurry."

Lying in the hospital bed, Mitchel had a fever. Being in the rain for so long had infected his wound.

Before leaving, Luis turned to Raegan and said, "I know it's hard to believe, but Mitchel really cares about you."

Luis understood Mitchel's complicated story. When Mitchel was little, his parents had separated, leaving him starving for parental affection. He didn't know how to have a relationship with a woman and he was ashamed to admit his feelings.

However, Luis was not fooled by Mitchel's seemingly indifferent behavior. Deep down, he knew that Mitchel cared about Raegan.

As Raegan sat on the edge of the hospital bed and stared at Mitchel's pale face, a myriad of emotions washed over her.

Could Mitchel really care about her?

If so, why did he treat her like that? Why did he do those things to break her heart?

But if he didn't care about her, why wasn't he willing to divorce her and even protect her with all his might?

Lost in these thoughts, Raegan ended up falling asleep on the edge of the bed.

Outside the room, Jarrod and Luis loitered smoking cigarettes in the hallway.

Luis was the first to break the silence.

Don't you think you're being too hard on the Lawrence family? I saw Nicole send her father to the emergency room. "His knees were scraped and he was missing one shoe."

Jarrod, his face covered in cigarette smoke, said nothing.

Luis put out his cigarette and gave him a questioning look.

«Look, I understand you. I don't mind helping you deal with them. Those bastards deserve it. But, to tell the truth, the Lawrence family's biggest fault was canceling the engagement. As parents, it's only fair that you worry about Nicole's future. Don't you think it's too much to treat them like this?

Plus, your wedding is in two weeks, and you can't let Nicole go yet. He'll be in trouble if your fiancee finds out about this.

Luis knew how formidable Jarrod's fiancée could be, especially when it came to dealing with her rivals.

And since Jarrod was so in love with her, no one dared to contradict him.

That young woman was as clever as a tack. So it was no surprise that he came across a man like Jarrod and saved him, even if it was in the most unlikely place.

Back then, when Jarrod was abroad, if it hadn't been for his fiancée, he would have suffered a few more years and wouldn't have been able to turn around so soon.

Despite Luis's reasoning, Jarrod remained undaunted.

"It's none of your business," he replied coldly.

As soon as he said these words, he turned on his heel and left.

Luis had never walked through mud or been dragged through dirt. Therefore, he could not understand the depth of resentment that boiled in Jarrod's heart.

Jarrod despised Nicole for how easily she had given up on him and their shared past.

In the darkness of the night, the scar on Jarrod's forehead looked even more menacing.

As he stared at the motionless figure in the ICU, he felt nothing.

Without a word, he pushed the door open.
