Chapter 518

“Come back tonight,” Jarrod declared evenly.
"What do you mean by that?" Nicole asked, confused.
"You'll have to take care of me at night until I'm fully recovered," Jarrod explained, offering a slight smile. «I apologize for not making it clear before. "That kiss was nothing more than a preview of your absence during the day."
“How dare you!” Nicole gritted her teeth furiously.
Jarrod's face remained stoic as he mockingly replied, "You pride yourself on being morally superior, so by the morals of the righteous, aren't you expected to take care of someone you've hurt?"
Nicole responded with a cold laugh: “That depends on whether the injured person is a human or a monster!”
Jarrod's patience began to wear thin and his tone became menacing: "You seem reluctant to leave."
"I can't wait to go!" Nicole knew he wouldn't let her go without making a fuss, but any time away from him felt like a reprieve.
She looked at him warily, worried that he might back out, and said, "Breaking a promise is not like a real man."
Jarrod seemed amused by her comment and his mood seemed to relax.
He laughed softly and said, "You know what kind of man I am."
Nicole's cheeks flushed with embarrassment and she said, "You... Degenerate!"
And he left slamming the door.
Behind her, Jarrod's amused gaze darkened once more.
Crossing the front yard of the villa, Nicole saw Alec kneeling on the ground.
Nicole stopped, leaned over, and gently tapped Alec's shoulder as if dusting him off. Then, with a touch of irony, he said, “Alec, it seems like Jarrod doesn't think much of you.”
Alec's expression soured drastically.
Nicole smiled and walked away. Her goal was to worsen Alec's perception of her, intensifying his disdain. Their goal was to highlight and amplify the disconnect between Alec and Jarrod's perspectives, potentially to their benefit. After all, Alec was not blameless.
Stepping out, Nicole took a deep breath of fresh air. He got into the car arranged by Jarrod and left for the company with his men.
Before leaving, Nicole glanced around the austere villa, a smile on her lips.
Alec stood up with difficulty. Then, a key slipped from his pocket. He deliberately dropped a key he had always kept close by.
Alec returned to Jarrod's room, finding him lying on the bed, a notebook in front of him.
As Alec entered, Jarrod asked quietly, "Did he take the bait?"
Alec nodded.
Jarrod nodded calmly. "Good".
The room fell into silence.
Jarrod's gaze drifted to the whitish wall. Silently, he curled his lips downward and prayed deeply within himself. Nicole, please show me that my trust in you wasn't misplaced!
After leaving Jarrod's villa, Raegan felt a little sad.
Mitchel, who was driving, broke the silence. «You seem worried. Anything you want to share?
Seeing him take the initiative to speak, Raegan decided to try it and see if it worked. He said, "Mitchel, can you convince Jarrod to forgive Nicole?"
"I can't do it," Mitchel said coldly.
Raegan's heart sank. She remembered Nicole's warning about keeping Mitchel in the dark.
It was clear as day: just as Raegan was on Nicole's side, Mitchel was undeniably loyal to Jarrod.
Without much more to say, Raegan simply acknowledged: "Understood."
Then he looked away at the landscape passing by the window.
Mitchel's irritation increased. Why couldn't I ask a few more questions?
But Raegan ignored his irritation, staring outside.
Mitchel's anger intensified even more. That ruthless woman only seemed to recognize him when she needed something from him.
As they approached the city, Raegan suddenly demanded, "Stop the car!"
Mitchel slowed down and asked, "What's wrong?"
Blushing, Raegan said, "I need to buy something."
"What do you need?"
Raegan struggled for words, gesturing toward a pharmacy, saying, “I need to visit that place.”
Mitchel immediately understood the situation. His expression darkened instantly. "You don't need that."
Raegan's cheeks flushed. "Yes, I need it." He reproached him for his lack of caution.
Mitchel's expression turned stern and he said, "You are not in your fertile days. What worries you?
Raegan was stunned. "How do you know?"
“It's not something I'll forget,” Mitchel said nonchalantly, as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Raegan felt her ears grow hot. That man was too much! How could he be aware of so many details? He corrected him firmly: “Still, there is always a chance.”
Mitchel's face softened into a smile and he said, "Don't worry. If it happens, we'll just give Janey a brother to play with.
Raegan was speechless. Mitchel was an expert at talking nonsense.
Raegan snorted, “Who said I wanted to have a baby with you? Let me out!
He had to take the medication while he had the chance.
As Raegan approached the car door, Mitchel grabbed her wrist with his large hand, pulling her closer to him. She bumped her head against his solid chest and looked at him with annoyance. "What are you doing?"
Mitchel looked at her with a cold intensity that seemed almost threatening.
On alert, Raegan asked, "What exactly do you want?"
