Mitchel didn't return her gaze, focusing instead on Janey and the task of peeling the sweet potato, showing no intention of acknowledging Raegan.

The silence was uncomfortable.

Janey encouraged, “Mommy, try it. "Dad peeled it himself."

"Very good". Raegan tried a piece of the sweet potato. Its sweetness was preserved since it was roasted with the skin.

“Does it taste good?” Janey asked, her eyes full of curiosity.

Mitchel looked up, casting a brief glance at Raegan's unusual outfit.

Raegan blushed and said, "Yes."

«You should thank dad, right? “You always tell me to thank the people who help me,” Janey reminded Raegan in her innocent tone.

"Mom, have you forgotten?"

Hearing this, Raegan's cheeks took on a deeper color. He bowed his head and said quickly, “Thank you.” His voice was barely audible, like a whisper.

“Mom…” Janey frowned. «You should look them in the eyes when you say thank you. "You just thanked your plate, not Dad."

Raising her head, Raegan met Mitchel's intense gaze, remembering how he had admired her in the morning light, complimenting every inch of her with a sincere, "Very pretty!"

Raegan's ears heated up in response. He managed to say: «Thank you. "The sweet potato is very good."

"You're welcome," Mitchel said quietly. I was mad at her this morning. Although his handsome face was still carefree, deep down he was a little happy. It wasn't that he couldn't do anything against her. Janey seemed to help the situation.

In the family dynamic, there was always someone who had the upper hand.

It seemed that Janey had made things right for Mitchel after what she had endured.

Raegan looked at Mitchel's indifferent expression and chose to remain silent.

Then Janey, as if she had discovered something extraordinary, pointed to a mark on Mitchel's jaw and asked, "Dad, what happened here?"

Raegan's gaze followed Janey's finger and she almost gasped at the sight. During their previous argument, he hadn't noticed the bite mark on the side of Mitchel's attractive face.

Mitchel was speechless. “It's a mosquito bite,” he said gravely, but Raegan detected a hint of mockery in his voice.

Janey's eyes widened as she exclaimed, "Dad, I've never seen a mosquito that big!"

"You should have seen it."

"But why did it sting you so fiercely?" Janey asked.

With a slight smile, Mitchel looked at Raegan and said, "Because the mosquito was too hungry to resist."

A moment of silence followed.

Raegan's face suddenly turned red. What was he implying? After five years away, he wasn't the only one going crazy. They had shared moments of happiness. Although Raegan's mind was foggy at first, she almost went crazy once she fully developed.

Raegan could still remember his hoarse voice from the morning. "If it gets too much... Just bite me... It's okay... Don't bite yourself..."

He had meant it.

Janey suggested, "Dad, maybe you'll feed the mosquito first so it doesn't bite so much."

Mitchel chuckled, thinking it was a clever idea. But it was clear that Raegan was not at all grateful. He nonchalantly replied, “Okay, I got it.”

Raegan couldn't take it anymore. He coughed and said, "Janey, have some oatmeal."

Raegan looked at Mitchel sternly. He cursed him silently.

Mitchel picked up a bowl of porridge, stirred it, and gave it to Janey. “Janey, if you eat right, the mosquitoes won't bite you.”

Raegan was speechless. Mitchel must have said those words on purpose.

Throughout the meal, Janey's lively banter filled the room, to which Raegan responded from time to time.

Mitchel was good at taking care of children. Janey often refused to eat and had to be cajoled. However, today he ate more than usual.

It seemed like Mitchel was really cut out to be a loving father.

That idea crossed Raegan's mind, but she quickly dismissed it.

He couldn't allow himself to think about something so dangerous.

Mitchel noticed Raegan shaking her head, finding it adorable. His attitude softened and a slight smile appeared at the corner of his lips.

Just then, the phone Mitchel had on the table rang.

Annis offered to hold Janey so Mitchel could answer the call more comfortably.

However, Mitchel waved his hand dismissively, holding Janey with one arm and picking up the phone with the other.

Mitchel asked, "How is he?" Okay, then I'll go check on him."

Raegan strained her ears, hoping to continue listening, but the call had ended.

Mitchel looked at Raegan, who had just begun rearranging the dishes, and remained silent.

When they finished eating, Annis accompanied Janey upstairs to wait for her teacher.

Raegan thought about Mitchel's recent phone conversation.

I suspected it had to do with Jarrod, judging by the tone.

He saw Mitchel get up and walk to the door. She got up quickly, ran after him and asked, "Are you leaving?"

With his hands stuffed in his pockets, Mitchel stared back at him, as if waiting for him to say something.

Raegan hesitated before asking, “Where… where are you going?”

Mitchel raised an eyebrow and said, “What? Is a sexual partner's schedule worth your attention?

Raegan was speechless again. Knowing the cause of her displeasure, she had hugged herself for making fun of him.
