Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 409
? ? ? ? ?
Austin was too innocent and she felt too stained by her past.
After Austin's birth, Nicole was overcome by deep depression. This dark period led her to try to end her life on several occasions.
One night, in a moment of desperation, Nicole found herself with her hands around Austin's thin neck. The hope he had once felt for his son had turned to bitterness. He wondered why he was still alive.
However, as she clenched her hands, her son's sudden crying cut through the silence and brought her back to reality.
"How did I get so lost?" Nicole wondered.
Roscoe stood up and put his hands on Nicole's shoulders, calming her with gentle caresses. He waited patiently for the sobs to pass.
«Nicole, you haven't done anything wrong. Don't blame yourself. “I'm sure Austin wouldn't blame you either,” he assured her, his gaze filled with unwavering support.
«You haven't done anything wrong. "Don't doubt yourself," Roscoe reiterated, with a firm voice. Then he hugged her gently, with a touch so delicate that he seemed afraid she would break.
When they finished eating, Roscoe placed Nicole in the passenger seat before he got behind the wheel.
The vehicle stopped in front of a large luxury hotel.
"Are you staying here?" Nicole asked. Nicole asked.
«Yes, my new house has not been occupied for a long time. I've aired it out, but it will take a few days for it to be ready for us to move in. "I've arranged for the babysitter to stay here with Austin in the meantime," Roscoe explained.
The mention of Austin made Nicole's eyelashes flutter once again.
Roscoe noticed and said, “Nicole, do you want to come up and check on him? "Austin must be asleep by now."
Meanwhile, Alec was stationed in a car underneath the hotel, keeping watch.
A sleek black luxury car pulled up nearby, prompting Alec to quickly exit his vehicle and approach.
The car window rolled down, revealing Jarrod's pale but surprisingly handsome face.
Following a critical emergency at the hospital, Jarrod had a fever that exceeded 40 degrees Fahrenheit that night, threatening his lung tissue. His lungs, already vulnerable, required a five-day hospital stay to achieve some stability.
Jarrod still hadn't fully recovered. Despite his doctor's warnings against smoking, he stuck to his cigarettes, smoking incessantly.
Alec relayed to Jarrod all of Nicole's actions since she had left the restaurant.
Lifting his eyelids slightly, Jarrod looked at the hotel's gleaming entrance and asked, "Here?"
Alec confirmed with a shake of his head, choosing to remain silent beyond this.
Some truths were understood without the need to express them. Adults who visited a hotel together late at night often had reasons other than work.
With a quick movement, Jarrod extended his hand and Alec, understanding the silent command, handed him his phone with slightly shaking hands. He played the video he had just recorded. It showed Nicole and Roscoe entering the hotel together.
Walking up the steps, Nicole nearly lost her balance, but Roscoe quickly caught her. Then he took her hand and held on to her until they disappeared inside.
Every change in Jarrod's expression seemed to strain Alec's nerves even more. He anticipated a storm of anger from Jarrod.
However, even after watching the entire video, Jarrod's face was devoid of any reaction. He kept his eyebrows furrowed and his gaze fixed.
Then, unexpectedly, a smile spread across his face.
It was a strange and sudden smile that did not help to lighten the paleness of his face, but rather cast a shadow of moroseness and ill health.
Alec found it a disconcerting smile and, knowing Jarrod, a bad omen.
Without a word, Jarrod deftly dialed a number on Alec's phone.
After a brief pause, the call was connected.
“Hello, who is this?” Nicole's voice sounded from the other end, soft and seemingly filled with quiet warmth.
Jarrod calmly spoke his name. “Nicole, did you sleep well?”
Although Jarrod tried to sound calm, Nicole could still detect the tension in his voice.
Nicole smiled satisfied and said, "Mr. Schultz, a sensible person wouldn't call at this hour to ruin someone else's fun."
"What if I'm not wise?" Despite appearing unwell, Jarrod spoke with a force that demanded attention.
"Mr. Schultz, you used to be so soft, especially with the ladies.
What happened to his charm and his understanding of simple manners?
“Nicole!” Jarrod's patience wore thin quickly. His voice became stern.
“I need you to come outside and meet me, right now!”
Jarrod's eyes turned red. Whether Nicole was playing with him or toying with him, he didn't care. But the thought of her with another man was something he couldn't bear.
Hearing his tone, Nicole realized his intentions. She knew she and Roscoe were at the hotel.
Nicole playfully replied, "I'm so sorry, but I'm not wearing anything suitable for going out right now."
There was complete silence from Jarrod. There was no sound for a long moment, not even a breath.
If it weren't for the fact that the call was still connected, Nicole would have thought he had hung up.
Just as Nicole was about to hang up, a deep male voice stopped her.
“Nicole, are you trying to bother me?”
Jarrod's voice became softer, almost pleading. «Well, you have achieved it.
I'm so angry that everything hurts. Please come down, will you?
His pain wasn't just emotional. Every breath of air was like a stab.
He knew that his request for him to kneel was nothing more than a form of punishment. Still, he knelt until everything went dark…
Even when he was seriously ill, on the verge of death, Alec could not convince Nicole to visit him.
