Chapter 376

“I swear, if you try to pair me up with Sadie, I'll have to play Raegan's matchmaker with other young men! Ardlens is full of rich and eager young people these days…” said Luis.
Before Luis could finish his words, Mitchel cut him off: “Miss Miller.”
Luis responded in a relaxed tone: «Stop the nonsense, will you? Don't even try to use this name to intimidate me. I'm not afraid of..."
"Mitchel!" A clear female voice cut Luis off.
Instantly, Luis grabbed his head and silently cursed Mitchel: "Son of a bitch!"
Mitchel, however, simply ignored Luis and turned to Sadie, saying nonchalantly, “It's been a while. Luis, why don't you say hi to Sadie? "You haven't seen each other in years."
"Luis? Is he really here? Sadie exclaimed and turned around abruptly.
«Is it really you? Luis?"
«I'm sorry, miss. "It seems that he has confused me with someone else."
Luis covered his face with both hands, ready to get into the elevator with Mitchel, but Sadie stopped him.
"Luis! I know it's you! Sadie lunged at Luis.
Caught off guard, Luis had no choice but to watch the elevator door close in front of him.
Luis cursed Mitchel silently. He wondered how he could discourage Sadie's advances.
Meanwhile, in a corner of the hallway, Jarrod's gaze was fixed on Nicole's face. He had to remind himself again and again that this was not a dream.
It seemed absurd, but Jarrod was terrified that it wasn't real, just like those strange dreams he'd had over the past few years.
Nicole, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, raised her eyelids and said in a lazy, impatient tone: “Mr. Schultz, get to the point. "I don't want to waste my time."
Jarrod's lips moved slightly and his voice was rough. "How have you been all these years?"
When those words escaped his lips, he was stunned. He didn't expect to instinctively care about her. Shouldn't he confront her? He had to ask Nicole why she messed with him, right?
But when he started to speak, he realized that he didn't care about the answer. What really mattered was knowing what she had been through…
"How have I been?" Nicole was surprised by Jarrod's unexpected question.
Jarrod's question dragged Nicole back to those difficult times.
The only peace Nicole had found in the last five years was when she had fallen into the sea and lost consciousness. The tranquility freed her from all worry.
But waking up not only brought with it the harsh recovery, but also a deep-seated hatred for Jarrod. The strong feeling of hatred led her to hate the world, lose interest in life and reject everything.
At that moment, the silence surrounding Nicole seemed to echo the pain of her past. Jarrod stood in front of Nicole, his presence like a terrifying demon that seemed to choke her every night. Those tormenting dreams ignited a fierce anger in Nicole's heart. He fantasized about getting revenge on Jarrod in the most instinctive way.
Unable to contain her rage any longer, Nicole confronted him: “Mr. Schultz, have you come to make fun of me? Please don't say you suddenly realized you love me just because I jumped off a cliff.
“I…” Jarrod started to retort, but Nicole cut him off with a disdainful laugh. «Maybe I'm still alive because of you. Your actions disgust me. That is why I have returned, to prevent you from tarnishing my name, in any way.
Jarrod's striking face turned to stone, words failing him.
«Is there anything else you want to say? If not, get out of my sight.
This is our last face-to-face conversation. There will be no other chance,” Nicole stated, her voice cold and distant.
Nicole turned to walk away, but in an instant, Jarrod's strong hand pushed her against the wall.
Jarrod's penetrating gaze locked on her. He struggled to contain himself and avoid any rash action. In a rough voice, he said, "What if I told you that the accident made me realize how much you mean to me?"
He himself found it difficult to believe that he had uttered those words.
After enduring five long years of hell without Nicole, Jarrod had changed.
I no longer wanted to go back to those dark days full of confusion and lack of hope.
Now, all he wanted was to hold on to Nicole, the only person he truly wanted in his life.
With red eyes, Jarrod insisted, "Nicole, if I told you I couldn't live without you, what would you do?"
Jarrod watched Nicole's face carefully, not missing a single expression. But all he could see in her eyes was disgust and hatred.
That was the undeniable truth.
Nicole made no effort to hide her disgust as she looked at Jarrod.
She just wanted him to know the depth of her hatred. To her, he was nothing more than a piece of shit.
“Jarrod, you disgust me!” Nicole screamed.
However, Jarrod remained unfazed by her words. "Nicole, you can't provoke me," he replied, smiling. He had shed the irritable behavior he had five years ago.
"I'm willing to do anything for you." With a serious expression, Jarrod stared at her and declared, "Nicole, I want you back in my life."
Nicole could only scoff. Jarrod had always been cocky. And now, in addition to being arrogant, he seemed delirious.
Nicole leaned towards him, playfully tightening the tie around Jarrod's neck with her delicate fingers. «You know, Mr. Schultz, I am the official interpreter of this damn place. “If I go missing, my supervisor will probably notify the embassy right away.”
As she spoke, Nicole playfully wrapped Jarrod's tie around her fingers, tightening it little by little. She teased him with a playful tone, almost as if she wanted to suffocate him.
"Listen, Mr. Schultz, if you don't want to end up in a messy international legal battle, I suggest you keep your hands to yourself!"
Nicole warned him.
Jarrod felt the tie tighten around his neck, almost suffocating him, but he remained unfazed, his handsome face calm as he nonchalantly replied, "Do you really think that scares me?"
The truth was that the organization Nicole worked for was taking the opportunity to explore a possible long-term project in the country.
