A night when, after pleading, Mitchel had shown her a little mercy, although the duration had been unbearable for Raegan.

He wondered what had driven Mitchel to such extremes.

Determined to start a quiet conversation that night, Raegan waited for Mitchel.

Mitchel emerged from the shower, less intimidating in navy pajamas, his hair damp.

Seeking to ease the tension, Raegan casually asked, "Have you had dinner?"

"Yes," Mitchel replied briefly.

"Are you thirsty?" she continued, determined to break the ice.

Mitchel held his gaze for a moment and then nodded.

Raegan poured a glass of water for Mitchel, who was leaning against the bed, absorbed in the latest magazine.

When she hesitated to give him the glass, Mitchel grabbed her wrist.

He placed the glass on the nightstand, and with a gentle tug, Raegan found herself unexpectedly sitting on his lap, her cheeks flushed with surprise.

“Ah!” Startled, Raegan let out a scream. He tried to get up, but Mitchel held his ankle firmly.

He carelessly rubbed the protruding bones of her ankle as he asked in an icy tone, "Do you have something to tell me?"

Trying to stay calm, Raegan replied, “I have work to attend to. Can I go to the company tomorrow?

"You don't need to bother with that anymore."

Confused and alarmed, Raegan responded, "What do you mean?"

Mitchel revealed: "I have arranged your resignation with your boss. You are now free from work. Are you not happy?

This news angered Raegan. Her intention was to have a civil conversation, but anger took over.

«Mitchel, you had no right to decide that for me! It was my job, my decision.

Why did you do it without asking me?

His authoritarian character was unmistakable. This time, his frustration reached new heights.

“Do you need to ask why?” Mitchel replied, putting his hand to her chin with a chilling grimace. "Because I am your husband."

His smile was cold and sent a shiver through Raegan.

Fear gripped Raegan, reminding her of that harrowing night. She was worried that any further provocation could lead her to repeat that terrible experience.
