Chapter 1659:
? ? ? ? ?
Nicole reassured Callie by saying, “It's not your fault. It's those bad people's fault. You never wished any harm on your father, did you?”
Callie, it's crucial that you tell the police everything that happened that day. Be thorough and make sure you don't leave out any details.
"This will help them find the suspect quickly and get justice for your father. Do you understand?"
Callie agreed. It wasn't that she didn't want to talk, but fear gripped her. However, with Nicole by her side, she felt much safer. In the past, it had been Nicole who had rescued her.
During her childhood, Nicole had been the person she had trusted the most.
Callie requested Nicole's presence, as she was too scared to testify alone.
Ethel agreed to Callie's wish and allowed Nicole to accompany her during the interrogation.
That day, Brett had casually asked Callie about her aspirations after they moved abroad.
Callie expressed her dreams, but pointed out the financial challenge of playing the violin.
To reach the level she desired, she needed the help of a teacher, a very costly task.
To reassure her father, Callie simply said she was joking.
However, Brett assured her that he would help Callie fulfill her dream.
Later, Brett's expression turned serious when he received a phone call.
Since Brett had gotten out of the car to take the call, Callie couldn't hear the conversation, but she noticed that it was a young woman's voice.
Brett seemed to be arguing heatedly with the interlocutor, and his usually calm face showed an unusual fierceness.
Worried, Callie asked him what was wrong when he got back to the car.
Brett told her it was a work-related disagreement. He then drove Callie to a secluded neighborhood and told her to wait in the car while he drove away with a shovel.
The shovel was later discovered at the crime scene. Callie waited patiently, but her father never returned. Uneasiness consumed her as she sat in the car.
Despite her father's warnings not to follow him, Callie eventually succumbed to impatience and ventured out to find him, only to find a large scene.
Her legs buckled and she immediately called the police. That was there.
The most suspicious appearance arose from the phone call Brett had received. Ethel produced a call log from that period, which revealed a single call that matched Callie's description.
However, it came from an untraceable burner phone.
The prime suspect seemed to be Jamie, given the dearth of women connected to Brett. Brett had remained single, devoting his time to his daughter and elderly parents.
Despite Callie's grandmother's persistent efforts to persuade Brett otherwise, he had no desire to force himself on anyone else.
It was confirmed that Brett had not been in romantic relationships with any women, increasing the likelihood that the woman had argued with was Jamie.
After running more tests on Callie and warning her to rest, Ethel and Nicole left the room in unison.
