Chapter 1614:

? ? ? ? ?

Meanwhile, Vicki and Lowe were facing their consequences, jailed without bail. Their futures looked bleak. Lowe's involvement in serious crimes would likely earn him a lengthy sentence, potentially more than a decade, while Vicki's secret dealings had finally caught up with her, ensuring that a significant prison sentence was also in her future.

The extent of their sentences would depend largely on the influence of the Hampton family.

Even with the Hamptons' willingness to save Vicki, her future looked bleak, ruined by her past misdeeds.

Doreen had been the least involved and had only been in custody for a month, thanks in part to Jarrod's efforts.

Jarrod had sent lawyers to negotiate for Doreen, a gesture that neither Doreen nor Hallie appreciated. To them, Jarrod was a traitor. They assumed that he had been sided with Nicole and had put Doreen behind bars intentionally, even distancing himself from them.

What Doreen and Hallie didn't know was that the Hampton family had a vengeful streak, and had already blamed Doreen for Vicki's downfall. If they decided to take revenge, the consequences would be said.

The Watts family also posed a threat. Doreen had spent little time with them, but her failure to please Roscoe had turned her into a twisted woman. Many members of the Watts family had been offended by her rude and spoiled behavior.

By now, the Watts family's power was on the wane, and those who had once taken advantage of their status and influence found themselves taking a loss after being cast out by Roscoe. Unable to break away from their customary high life, they might resort to desperate measures.

If Doreen remained in Ardlens, it would not be unlikely that she would cross paths with those in the Watts family who held a grudge and sought revenge.

For the moment, it was best for Doreen and Hallie to remain unnoticed abroad. It was the only way to avoid trouble.

However, neither Doreen nor Hallie understood Jarrod's good intentions. They were convinced that he had been bewitched by Nicole and was doing everything in her favor.

As she was led away, an angry Hallie protested, “How could you do this to me? Have you forgotten how good I was to you? I helped you when you were nothing! “I can’t believe you would treat your family like this just because of that woman.”

It was a weak claim. The help Hallie had thrown in Jarrod's face amounted to a paltry few thousand dollars. She considered herself kind enough not to add fuel to the fire while Jarrod was depressed. Perhaps then she would still be human enough to be charitable.

However, Jarrod's acts of repaying the kindness far outweighed the value of that small amount of money since long ago.

But Hallie didn't see things that way. As bossy as ever, she felt the world owed her everything she wanted. Now that Jarrod was a rich man, she expected more from him. She wanted him to remain single and childless so she could keep all her assets.

The greed ran far deeper than anyone could imagine, and holding on for old times' sake only served to fuel it.

If Jarrod had not continually paid Hallie back out of gratitude and a sense of familial obligation, Hallie and Doreen would not have developed such a twisted sense of entitlement.

After Hallie was taken away, the commotion slowly died down.

Seeing that Rhett was there, Jarrod knew that Nicole must have something to discuss in order to summon Rhett.

"Have you decided?" Jarrod asked.

“Yes,” Nicole replied evenly.
