Chapter 1575:

? ? ? ? ?

“Absolutely. Rest assured. “I will protect myself for the sake of my mother, my son, and everyone who cares about me,” Nicole promised Ethel.

Now that her health had improved considerably, Nicole felt ready to do more, help others and take care of her loved ones. She decided to live a full life.

“How is your mother?” Ethel asked. According to her memories, she had seen Nicole's mother once. Nicole's mother was gentle and strikingly beautiful, her voice as soft as Ethel's dreams. Sadly, Ethel had no mother figure in her life.

"She hasn't changed. She doesn't recognize me and she still doesn't speak, but her physical condition is stable," Nicole replied.

“Kiki, may I accompany you on your next visit to her?” Ethel asked cautiously. Although she had only met Nicole's mother once, the thought of Nicole living as an automaton saddened her deeply. She longed to see Nicole's mother again.

“Of course,” Nicole replied happily. “Let’s schedule a date and go together.”

“Wonderful!” Ethel smiled.

Nicole then remembered the incident at Witch Valley and asked, “Any news about those witches?”

After leaving Witch Valley, Nicole had reported the incident to the local authorities, but the remote location had left her in the dark.

“The case is officially closed and under investigation,” Ethel replied.

«The chief and those witches were malevolent, causing harm to many over the years. Despite their deaths, the investigation aims to bring all of their followers to justice, ensuring that superstition and rumors do not run rampant.

“That's reassuring,” Nicole sighed in relief. It was comforting to know that the innocent victims would not be forgotten.

After bidding farewell to Ethel, Nicole headed to Brett's residence to keep an eye on her. She acquired a loaf of bread and settled down by the flowerbed, ready to eat while she kept an eye on the property. This time, she came equipped with pepper spray, a compact knife, and pills to increase alertness. She was determined not to be surprised and incapacitated like before.

Nicole observed the surroundings for nearly seventy-two hours. Even when nature called, she set up a camera to monitor the entrance, reviewing the recordings upon her return to ensure no activity went unnoticed.

Interestingly, Brett's family hadn't left the house in three days. Nicole thought that was strange. Didn't they need essential supplies? They certainly had to buy groceries at some point.

On the third night, Nicole finally saw Brett's daughter leave the building.

Brett's daughter, Callie, was twenty years old. She looked young and innocent, dressed in a black hooded coat, wrapped up warmly.

Exiting the stairwell, Callie scanned the surroundings to make sure there were no suspicious individuals before heading to a nearby white car.

Nicole heard the driver of the white car ask, “Does your phone number end in 3368?”

Callie agreed and replied, “It’s me.”

"Get in the car," the driver told him.

It looked like Callie had gotten hold of a suspicious car. Nicole quickly started her own vehicle, which was hidden in the shadows. Nicole's black car, with its lights dimmed, blended seamlessly into the traffic.
