Chapter 1523:

? ? ? ? ?

But she wasn't about to let Roscoe walk that dangerous path alone. "Roscoe, seek your revenge if you must, and I'll support you, but not like this. You can't put your life in danger. It's not worth it."

Roscoe smiled wryly.

“Nicole, you cannot understand the extent of the Watts family’s entrenchment, the immensity of their power. This is my only chance. Please forgive my stubbornness and selfishness, but I cannot waste this opportunity. “I cannot simply swallow these humiliations and move on as if nothing has happened.”

His statement was a mixture of sincerity and disappointment. Roscoe wished Nicole to live a life free of burdens and full of happiness.

Nicole's eyes filled with tears. "Roscoe, I'm sorry. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have suffered so much..."

She knew the price he had paid. He could have avoided the forced marriage to Doreen and those endless torments. Now, he had to risk his life for a shred of freedom.

Nicole's heart ached as if a swarm of insects were gnawing at it.

“Nicole, my ambitions are mine alone. They are not your burden. Taking control of the Watts family is my desire, and everything I have hardened is only the price I have paid. If I had not been so carried away by wealth and power, perhaps I would not be in this mess,” Roscoe uttered these white lies to ease his mental burden, with a tone of resigned acceptance in his voice.

Nicole was not convinced by his words. She knew it. When Roscoe was abroad, he had already earned a million-dollar salary.

The Watts family might be well-off, but he had never indulged in luxury. She could see that he was trying to reassure her, to encourage her to leave, but she couldn't just leave. Her conscience wouldn't let her leave him behind.

Suddenly, cracking sounds were heard in the distance.

Roscoe's face tightened and his eyes narrowed. He pushed Nicole away and urged, “Go away! Now!”

I recognized the sound all too well. It was the slithering of snakes. If snakes were near, witches were not far away.

Nicole grabbed Roscoe's arm tightly. "We're leaving together."

The hissing grew louder. Roscoe knew they couldn't afford to hesitate any longer.

Roscoe agreed. “Good!”

However, the next moment, with a loud splash, Nicole was pushed into the water, disappearing into its murky depths.
