Chapter 152

Having stated her point, Raegan agreed with a nod, “Okay.”
He helped Henley get settled on the couch. As Raegan was about to walk away, Henley grabbed her hand from behind.
Turning, Raegan looked at Henley in bewilderment.
The warm glow of the room highlighted the soft strands of hair that surrounded her face, and her naked complexion was soft and attractive.
Raegan embodied a mix of naiveté and sophistication, a combination that could easily attract a man.
Henley, realizing this, wrinkled his brow and felt heat wash over him.
He cleared his throat before asking, "Could you get me another glass of water, please?"
Raegan agreed, bringing him the water and covering him with a blanket while he lay on the couch.
He then went to his desk and activated the computer to review some documents.
Henley's presence in her space made her uneasy. He decided to dedicate himself to work.
More than twenty minutes passed before Henley got up to leave.
Concerned, Raegan insisted on walking him down the stairs and didn't return until she saw him leave.
Driving slowly, Henley spotted a black car lurking in the shadows.
He stopped pointedly, rolled down the window, and offered Mitchel a slight smile.
“What a coincidence, Mr. Dixon.”
Mitchel's eyes turned icy, detecting Henley's challenge.
With a chilling smile, Mitchel replied, “Henley, are you asking for trouble by repeatedly provoking me?”
«Are you kidding, Mr. Dixon? With the power of the Dixon family, would I dare?
Henley replied, mockingly as he took off his glasses, revealing his true, icy demeanor beneath the façade.
Mitchel's smile remained frozen as he warned, "Keep your distance from Raegan if you're not looking for trouble."
Undeterred, Henley replied, “Bossy, aren't you, Mr. Dixon? If Raegan chooses my company, why should I reject it? Besides…"
He paused, a sly gleam in his eye.
«I understand why he can't let her go. "I empathize with that feeling."
And he walked away, leaving Mitchel scowling.
The night air was cool, but Henley was lively.
At first, his goal was to usurp everything from Mitchel, and with Raegan's divorce, he seemed to have succeeded.
However, it was clear that Mitchel had not given up on Raegan, which piqued Henley's interest again. His mind turned to dark thoughts of conquest.
Raegan, for her part, remained cautious, her guard tight unless something important required her attention.
Henley realized he needed a well-thought-out plan.
His handsome features were shrouded in darkness. After a moment, he dialed a number.
"Is there any news about the person named Lloyd?"
A voice on the other end answered, "She was said to have been seen recently in Sandy."
Henley's tone turned icy.
«Locate her quickly. Don't let anyone get ahead of you."
Tessa, like a stray dog, could serve his purposes well.
With one hand on the wheel, he idly loosened his tie, his thoughts wandering with desire.
He remembered Raegan's pale hand and swore silently to himself.
In college, I didn't have much contact with Raegan.
At that time, his heart was full of hatred and he did not pay attention to her at all.
During the day, he played at being the model student. At night, it harbored darker secrets.
Only upon returning recently did he learn of Raegan's marriage to Mitchel and considered approaching her.
But as the days passed, his longing grew.
He convinced himself that he needed Raegan until she was his.
Once he had it, he believed it wouldn't affect him.
Meanwhile, Raegan, coming out of the shower, saw Henley's watch on the sink.
When he was about to push it away, the doorbell rang.
Assuming Henley had returned for his watch, Raegan changed into a modest nightgown and opened the door.
«Henley, you're back to…»
His words faltered as he saw Mitchel, whom he didn't expect after his last words.
Helpless, she went blank, her instinct led her to slam the door.
Boom! He put all his strength into slamming the door, but the door didn't budge.
Fear flooded Raegan's face, draining it of color.
With a mad grip, Mitchel stopped the door from closing. His hand took the brunt of it, and the impact left bruises that, set against the delicate skin, looked alarmingly vivid.
"Have you lost your mind?"
Looking up, Raegan met dark eyes, melancholy and full of bitterness.
Mitchel's expression was accusatory, as if he had caught her in an act of betrayal.
His gaze was so intense that Raegan became wary.
"What are you…?"
The door opened again.
Without saying a word, Mitchel burst inside, pinning her against the door, his face contorted, like a predator about to attack. He grabbed her chin and asked, "Did you sleep with him?"
Raegan, taken aback, realized.
«Have you been following me?
Anger flashed in Mitchel's reddened eyes as he strained each word: "Answer me."
With patience on the rocks, Raegan lashed out: “Have you lost your mind?
Have I not been clear today? We are divorced. My life no longer concerns you. You are nothing more than my ex-husband.
"Isn't it any of my business?"
Mitchel's mind was in a mess.
He had been downstairs in the car, staring at the light in his room, telling himself that Henley was only paying a brief visit and would be leaving shortly.
Mitchel knew better than to act rashly, or Raegan would despise him.
He consoled himself for an agonizing half hour, each moment stretching like an eternity.
But Henley's casual comment broke his fragile calm.
In an instant, his heart shattered.
He still saw Raegan as his, out of reach of any other man.
The mere idea of seeing her with another in privacy...
Mitchel felt his sanity fray.
Swallowed by jealousy, he longed for the truth.
Mitchel squeezed Raegan's chin hard.
«Raegan, I'll ask you one last time. Did you sleep with him?
The pain brought tears to Raegan's eyes, and her rage fueled a defiant resolve. He straightened his neck, his voice firm.
"That doesn't concern you."
“Oh yeah?”
Mitchel's sneer was a dark omen as he picked her up and threw her onto the bed.
"Since you don't confess, I'll find out myself."
A wave of dread ran over Raegan's features, a premonitory chill settled inside her.
